Aux Heater Can I Disconnect It
marinabrid replied to garrymossley's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
id just remove the sensor on the wiper linkage arm. that cuts a go signal or pull a wire off the mfuel pump underneath -
try leaving it ticking over with the rad cap off sometimes this cures it

sounds like air lock to me , is the aux heater working ok ?

hi can some kind person witha early 96 97 tdi 90 hp only engine have a look at some pipes for me to compare. the outlet from the air filter box has a pipe from it that goes to the breather cap on the rocker box top and a small pipe. does your small pipe go to the squre solenoid fixed on a rubber mounting next to the egr solenoid. \also the intercooler pipe that goes up across the engine front to the manifold. half way up it is the air temp sensor i think next to the sensor is another small air pipe that goes up and somewhere but where, mine seems to dissapear to a small elbow and then down to the servo area but then cant be seen, wonder if it a vent pipe of some kind. or should this pipe be connected to the outlet from the air box instead of the turbo solenouiid as described earlier. many thanks

HI ALL WHAT A DAY TRYING TO FATHOM THIS VACUUM. FFEW QUESTIONS / SHOULD THE LINKAGE ON THE TURBO HOUSING THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE ACUATER BE QUITE EASY TO MOVE VIA SUCTION, MINE IS VERY VERY STIFF AND AM WONDERING IF THE SUCTION WE HAVE IS NOT ENOUGH ? THE ACTUAL LINKAGE APPEARS TO BE VERY VERY STIFF AND WONT MOVE EASILY, ANYONE ELSE HHAD A SIEZED WASTEGATE ?

Confused Over Solenoid
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
HI TO ARE YOU MEANING THE TURBO BOOST VALVE ? ON THE BULKHEAD NEXT TO TYHE EGR SOLENOID ? MINES A SQURE SHAPE ONE WITH 1 PIPE IN ONE END AND 2 TO THE TURBO ONM THE OTHER. -
RIGHT GOT THAT I THINK, THE PIPE THAT LEAVES THE AIR FILTER BOX THE MAIN BIG PIPE HAS INDEED 2 OUTLETS ON. MY SMALL PIPE WAS NOT CIONNECTED TP THIS ! I HAVE PUT IT ON, THE OTHER PIPE AMISS NOW IS THE ONE FROM THE PIPE FROM THE INTERCOOLER THE BIG ONE THAT GOES UP THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK WITH THE.THE AIR TEMP SENSOR IS ANOTHER SMALL PIPE WHERE DOES THIS LEAD TO ?
-
we presume the vacuum is drawn in from the single pipe that comes from the front of no.5 solenoid. we have traced but just seems to disapaer into the servo area, the thing is ....impossible to follow. what is the fainter drawing uner no 5 the u shaped hose affair, looks like that is where the vacuum is drawn from also there is a sphere in the engine bay. the pipes on that are all ok or is that what supplies the acuater for the turbo ?
-
here the vacuum set up on mine. its different solenoid no. 5 operates the turbo actuator but from where it draws a vacuum no one knows it seems to be a pip of some kind !!!
-
thanbks have seen thi pic, on the earlier 90 engine the boost solenoid is a square shape and draws its vacuum from somewhere on the brake servo but where the pipe goes its impossible to see !!!!!!!!! can any other early pre 97 tdi owner confirm thjis, the wifes 98 110 model has the set up like the diagram but not my early model.
-
having no luck with this prob at all! where is everyone. well looked tonight, the turbo acutuator rod is free to move but doesnt. there is no vacuum to the solenoid. cant find where it draws from. anyone know. also tried put the vacuum from the egr valve onto the turbo still no movement of the rod, but does the egr supply pipe always provide a vacuum. getting a bit desperatenow. the ford pictures show the supply pipe but no one can see where it goes, it goes to somewhere near the brake servo but then totally disapperas the ford chap said it should go into the intercooler pipe but cant even see it. !!!!!!!!

need help with this vacuum system !

Confused Over Solenoid
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
you about seatkid, you seem to have the know how on this subject !!! is he on his jollydays -
hi, trying to fathem my lack of turbo boost above 3000 rpm mk1 tdi 90 on the bulk head is what i though was the boost solenoid, the one with 3 pipes and a plug connector on, one pipe goes to the air filter box the others to the egr valve, not sure about the other ! but to the left of that solenoid is another one, a square solenoid with vacuum pipes again and a plug on, whats this one do, cant find any reference on threads, ford man said it was turbo boost control !!!!!!!!!!!! getting confused.

hi can someone explain the wastegate solenoid . does this acuate the wastegate rod itself m so could be faulty if the acuator rod is not siezed up , just want to check b4 buying any replaements. -
hi just found a thread with my symptons and turned out to be a sticking wastegate. have been in touch wih member who said garage put oil on the turbo and it cured it ! can anyone explain in better detail how to free up this wastegate , ive look on tis but only find wastegate and egr solenoid replacemnet. anyone else had similar ?

evenin all, just done a run from leeds to manchester over the pennine hills, the old gal a mk 1 90hp with new air flow meter fitted is as flat as ...... is mine normal for a 90 as ive no comparison with the wifes 110. it manages about 75mph flat out maybe a bit more downhill but not much. the thing holds about 60 0r less when going up hills and has no ooomph at all even on the flat, it seems ok up to 60 -65 then very poor power output. have checked all pipes etc whats this turbo boost valve ive read about ? had it on a diagnostic but no faults shown. still does well over 40mpg no slipping clutch or other faults i can find. any ideas anyone. thasnsk

Aux Heater Fuel Pump
marinabrid replied to mike99's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
me thinks your pump is working ok, they do click as they work quite fast for the 1st phase of heating then a slower click later on maybe one click a second on the 2nd phase. the fuel is then spit out in pulses rather that a constant flow.i think this is correct. -
Alarm/ Door Led
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
any more ideas light comes on when turning ignition on then goes out after 3 seconds. -
metering pumps from ford are around
-
hi all, odd thing on mk 1 galaxy tonight, open door as normal with key, then put key in ignition, the red door led came on for about 3 seconds then went very very dim and stays on now very dim you can barley see it its that dim but its on. any ideas welcomed thanks

its under the car in front of the fuel tank, its hung from the floor with a rubber cradle thing, got a fuel line in and out and two wires on it.
-
if you have bridged the temp sensor on the wiper linkage and still no go and fuses etc then get a glowplug. ive sent you an email. its the sensible thing to do to start with. follow the excellent instructiuons posted on here and if that dont work it may need resetting or maybe not after that its more indepth work on it. maybe even cheaper to buy a new unit. but also first CHECK THE WIRES ON TO THE METERING PUMP, i spent 4 hours changing a plug and then found the wire off. the soddin plug was ok !
