Glow Plugs When Hot ?
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
yes its same downhill or uphill , which is the lift pump diagphramg if i can spell it ! sometimes when cold it starts straight up or sometimes it cranks for a long time when cold, -
hi can someone clarify, when the engine has been on a run and is hot, are the glowplugs used on a restart say after 5-10 mins ? im gett ing very long cranking over when hot engine on the tdi 110 98 year, no fans stay on runing so have ruled out the switch. or could it be that, sometimes from cold it fire up sometime from cold it takes a long time to fire , the glowplug light still works hot or cold, ,anyone any ideas ? thanks

Clicking Relay Under Dash
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
no only from cold when you drive of then it stops after a few mins and around 1/4 mile its a 90 tdi diesel -
hi all have just noticed on the gal 1997 9ohp that when i start from cold as then drive off there is a relay under the lower dash somewhere that clicks on and off intermitantly for around 2 mins then stops . it seems to click maybe 4 0r 5 times doesnt seem to cause any probs yet, thats the reason for the question, is it normal or a relay that could be on the way out and strand me somewhere !

Much Cranking Before Firing
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
sorry didnt mean hot weather i meant if you been for a drive and then come to re start when the engine hot it seems to crank over for a fair while before firing -
hi again all , the wifes 98 year 110 afn have noticed over the last few months that whereas befrore it seemed to start on the touch of the key from cold or when hot it now seems to crank over for a fair while before firing when hot, seems ok cold so she tell me. anything common to look at first ? i would have thought it should start easier when hot as the glow plugs arnt in use or are they in use when hot

well took the gal out all 90 horses and now im sure somethings wrong, my pal with me said theres no turbo working, would only do 50 in 4th gear on the motorway, seemed to pull ok on main roads up to 45-50 then went on m62 and got slower and slower, engine temp went up a bit but no overheating. its always semmed low on power but it revs right round the range and seems fine for easy work but nothing hard. im assumin the turbo is siezed as a while ago when i had issues we sucked on the vac pipe conected to turbo and then started enging but the acuator rod didnt move. the fitter then tried to move the linkage on the turbo but he said it seemed siezed, when i read on here about 90hp doing over the ton i now think i dont have turbo as mine will only pull about 85mph i think from what fitter siad in the past the waastegate flap has siezed open , anyone know how to free it

hi all not toad before and am getting ready ! have backed the gal up to the caravan and i seem to able to see ok down each side thanks to the extra width of the gal, however someone told me that you had to have 2 towing mirrors by law, im sure one of you expert towers will know , thanks

no mum my windows were up, it was just like if you get a water sprayer and spray a fine mist on the carpet, never happened b4 only going down mway with heavy rain
-
hi again all, just been down mway its as really wet, spray every where, noticed when i got home that on the pass side front footwell carpet it looked liked it had been sprayed with water from a sprayergun on the hose, any ideas where this may have entered, the door seals seemed fine and dry, there was nothing dripping from above the under of the dash was dry very odd, i got the hose out, neighbour thought me mad stood there spraying the car windscreen in the pouring rain nothing came in and the water ran out of the wheelarch hole, odd any ideas out there thanks again

hi all, few days go went into limp home, had it read and this no. 00575 came up, the guy said it related to manifold something or other, anyway he cleared it and said the engine then changed tis sound and was now spot on, he thought it was the air flow but that was new a few months ago, a couple of months ago though when on the mway the vacuum pipe blew off the intercooler pipe and went into limp home then, im wondering if that was the code that was logged, but then why woud it limp again the other day, any ideas, seem sto be running better than ever now the fault cleared

Which Is Best ?
marinabrid replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
As no one has answered you so far... Are they petrol or diesel? If both are diesel, the more powerful one will be better. If either is petrol, then the diesel one will be better (even if it is the lower powered one), as it has a turbo, and lots of low end 'grunt'. Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick here? Is this what you were asking? -

Mk1 Turbo And Egr Vacuum Conections
marinabrid replied to bigdave982's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
hi again, the vacc pipe conns are as follows for up to 97 year with the small square turbo solenoid, on one sideof the turbo solenoid is one inlet and on the other there are two one at a right angle to the other, the one on its own is connected to the air cleaner outlet on the biggish pipe that leaves the air box there is a small plastic pipe for the vaccumm hose to go on, its not the one one the top of the air cleaner box that one is connected to the egr valve solenoid on the side where there is one pipe. on the egr soolnoid the side where there are two pipes the one at the bottom goes to the vaccuum pipe that runs into the bulkhead the other one goes onto the egr valve itself. back to the turbo solenoid on the side where there are 2 the straighter one goes to the turbo itself on the neck of the turbo where the air pipe goes on the other vacumm pipe from the solenoid goes to the only other nozzle on the turbo housing. the vacuum pipe thats attached to the big intercooler hose that runs up the front of the engine that vac pipe runs right around the engine and goes somewhere near the servo dont know where as it cant be seen. if you want a copy of the diagram send me your address and i will post it for you -

marinabrid replied to bigdave982's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
HI i think you may have the smae probs i had a while ago, on the early tdi 90 is your turbo solenoid a small metal box with three vacuu conns ? should be on the bulkhead next to the egr solenoid, if you have this set up they are piped different to the later 98 on models where the turbo solenoid looks the same as the egr one. if you need further help email me thanks -
