  8. ITS A TDI. look under the passenger side rear floor outside underneath the car, you should see a samll exhust pipe like a scooter use to have it comes from the booster heater, it has water pipes going into it and out and a small fuel pipe. in cold weather it fires up from cold and assists the engine in getting the water for the heater hot quicker, you should hear it a whining whistling sound means all is well clouds of smoke or no noise not well. after turning engine off it runs for a few miniutes like a jet engine cooling down, if not working et them to fix it and dont let em off the hook. its on so it wants to work. in warmer weather there is a way to make it work by bridging a sensor, come back for info if you want to do this the heaters are
  9. is it a diesel ? if so make sure that booster heater fires up another expensive item. MAKE EM PAY
  10. as far as i know all tdi have the sensor clipped to the n/s wiper link arm or very near, its up it the top part of the area where the link arms are on the wipers, easier to see if you remove the big panal that diverst the water away, its round with a small 2 wire plug on it and is clipped ito a holder on the link arm, to test the heater at warmer temps unplugg the sensor and pop in a bridge usually a micro fuse with the legs bent in a touch, then the heater will get a permanent signal to start .
  11. .hi all just b4 the cold comes there a new booster heater on ebay for sale current price is
  12. not sure where the link is but the when you open the fuse panal the first one you see is all the fuses, if you can imagine its a 3 layered box the first layer is the first you can see, you have to cut a few cable ties and release a few clips and it flops down to reveal the layer underneath and again then for layer 3. its a messy job that you cant rush. will try and find the info i looked at and let you know type in the search box fuse box and it wilol take you to a page of questions, the forth one down titled relay 30 repalcement i think, clik on that and although its a mk2 you will see some kind chap has photoed the whole split down procedure be sure its that at fault though as its a long job that could prove a waste of ti,e
  13. yes mum the aux and booster are the same thing
  14. if you do the test i mentioned then that will tell you if the relay is working ok as it will be supplying the plugs when cold and they dont need to work when hot, the relay is no.36 on the 2nd or 3rd row of the fuse box by the drivers knee. a pig of a job but there are some mentions on here of how to do. i think 36 is the original relay no. but if a new one has been fitted at any time it may have a different no. on. a bit confusing. i can fathom why the car wont start when hot as the plugs arnt needed , we had a similar prob with the same car , there was a lot of air getting in, have you looked at that possibility ? the fuel filter and pipes near the pump and the small bleed off pipes on ours very tatty and by wiggling them air could be seen. i think my info is correct but if not im sure some expert will put us both right
  15. which relay are you looking for ? to check the glow plug relay pull the plug off the temp sender and put a test light between the glowplug and supply if it lights then the relay is sending power to the plugs. i think this is correct . im not sure if the light on the dash should glow when the engine is hot, and these engines generally start well without glowplugs when cold. it seems odd that you cant restart the car for 10mins after switching off. there is a ford glowplug relay on ebay for sale if this is your problem
  16. after having the wifes unplugged for the summer i popped the mini fuse back to test the old booster heater ready for the chilly mornings that will soon be upon us. maybe im lucky this year, it fired straight up., so just a thought to all, test it out b4 the winter does come. and dont forget if you need a booster heater glowplug pop into my online shop for one.My Webpage
  17. that is correct on the up to 98 models with a sqare metal box type turbo valve it has the brown plug, the black is egr.
  18. hi all, trying to fathom this poor starting on odd occassions on the 1.9tdi 110 ive had differing opinions on this subject from so called fitters etc, so over to the erxpersts now, in the clear pipe up to the pump there is a lot of little bubbles that seem to setle in the corner then now and again every few seconds there is a big glugging and swishing around and lots of frothing in the pipe, obviously air in there, now somefitters say its common and some say there should be no air, so whats your opinions...... thanks
  19. hi all sane people ! cant fathom this one, have put a test light accross the glowplugs on my good galaxy with no starting problems and its the same as the other with problems. there be no lights on the test lamp with ignition on or on cranking, the y must work somehow ! ive noticed on the poor starter that in the clear fuel line to the pump is a lot of glugging and air bubbles even after a run , on the other gal there is no sign of bubbles, could this be the problem with poor hot firing ? where will air get in the system ? also whatys this ive read about bleed ing the system to get rid, am now going quietly insane
  20. seemed to start a month ago, i cant fathom out that as these cars usually start very well hot or cold, will try a new switch, today and see what happens. wonder if the relay has anything to do with it, but where in that messy fusebox do you find it ! havnt delved in yet but lot of the relays behind fuse box it should unclip  seemed to start a month ago, i cant fathom out that as these cars usually start very well hot or cold, will try a new switch, today and see what happens. wonder if the relay has anything to do with it, but where in that messy fusebox do you find it ! havnt delved in yet but lot of the relays behind fuse box it should unclip :16: whats the basis of a hot start ? what is involved cant fathom this, ive read every topic on the forum yet still im stumped ! does the temp switch feed the relay then the relay power the plugs ? why does it give power when the temp switch is unplugged !!!!

  22. thanks for that anadin, i got a headache as it is, but why when i tried the older one from the toolbox , although i didnt fit it into the system i just plugged it on, it still gave no power to plugs
  23. hi on the tdi 110 98year, no power to glow plugs have just found out. when i disconnect the temp switch with the 4 wires on i get a suppply to the plugs, have been reading about it it seems common that the fan runs with a cold engine im not getting that, im a bit confused, is the switch telling the brain its hot and dont need glow plugs ? I had in he toolbox an old temp switch that was on a previous gal same type 4 pins and yellow ring, i swopped it for this but just plugged the wire on without fitting it in the water , the same thing, no power to glow plugs. unplug and i get power is it the relay the switch or what !!!! if its the glow relay in the fuse box where do i find this also many thanks
