Clutch Or Gearbox ?
acecard replied to manicmanda's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Make sure the burning smell wasn't coming from the tyres while screaming round the corners in 3rd..... sorry.. Seriously, smells a bit clutchy to me but no doubt you were slipping a bit round those corners. Glad to see you got the car back - did they do any work on it in the end? PS- hope its a straight road to the garage for you -
Anyone had experience of this oil - seems to be Euro Carparts own brand. Meets the VX spec 505.01 for tdi PD MK2 engines and at £8,48 per litre is a lot cheaper than castrol edge. Who actually blends it for them? will probably give it a go unless anyone out there has scare stories.
-
If your mileage is that low, then no harm in going for the cheap tyre if they're to spec. Just back to the problem of who is going to fit them and what they will charge. I don't think most places would be all that happy in fitting tyres not purchased from them.
-
Yeah - know the type, they pay more for the advertising than they do on the equipment. To be honest, they don't need more than a multimeter and a smattering of electrical knowhow for the fault you describe, let alone advanced diagnostics. The Rottweiler will be useful, you could also borrow my cross border collie, and I mean he is CROSS! :angry2:

I haven't found any cheap tyres for the galaxy that are of any use. Also ensure that those you see for sale are reinforced. Its necessary for insurance and because of the weight of the car. Tyre life varies on many factors - driving technique, quality of tyres, tracking etc. The rear tyres will generally outlast two or three pairs of the front. The best wear on the front I have had was with original Michelins lasting about 25k and the worst some Chinese rubber lasting about 7K. Its probably false economy to buy too cheaply.

Unfortunately they may be messing you about simply because you're a woman. These things do happen. Not sure about exact consumer rights in this situ, you might like to check with CAB, Trading standards etc? I would definitely advise taking a man with you to the garage if as I suspect they are less than honest with the girls, Good luck, keep posted on developments,

I always use tyre shopper - (part of national tyres but cheaper) - then get them fitted free at local national tyres depot http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/

"little Circle Thing"
acecard replied to Argrdnr's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
really clutching at straws here - is there a clear line of sight between the two circles on front and rear windows? -
Manchester bus drivers have just been told that they must not exceed 20mph in the city centre. You can hardly get above 10mph in the city centre on a moped! Wonder which expensive consultants thought this one up :angry2:

just thought also that some stick on air fresheners leave a black 'spider web' type thin black plastic circle which can be difficult to remove?? -

Often wondered about the rating for that accessory socket - if you've got any gadget that draws 15 amps for any length of time, better keep the engine running! -

My local company of the same name could not believe that I had a Mark TWO Galaxy registered in 2006. "No sir, you must be wrong, it must be a MK3" Hardly surprising that I don't use them for anything -
okay - i would still be a wee bit cautious if yours is a diesel motor
-
Typical - 32 quid for a piece of plastic. In what way is your battery not original - if its under capacity you might anticipate problems this winter
-
the plastic bolts are flimsy things anyhow - if the cover is mainly intact, a couple of strategically drilled holes and and some lengths of wire will do perfectly to hold it in place

Steamy Windows / Blower Problem
acecard replied to myfirstgalaxy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Might seem odd to switch on aircon with hot air but it usually solves this problem! -
I check mine every week now since it happened to me - all electrics failing within several minutes on a dark lonely road - wonderful to see the power gradually flickering off. Whats the situation on the MK3, have Ford sorted this problem? For heavy duty leads, see the spec for the Galaxy class starship (pictured) - unsure if they would be obtainable on ebay but may solve the problem once and for all :45:

That Dreaded Question. . . .tyres....!
acecard replied to cos140's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Not found any that have lasted like the original Dunlops. Currently doing quite well on Goodyear Optigrips. Do make sure tracking is spot on as the Gal will go through them like butter otherwise. -
Think I've caused a bit of confusion here. It should have read "100% of the pads are making contact with only 60% of the disks" - pads are the wrong type. Hope this makes it clear - teach me to drink and write
-
Clearly only 60% of pads were making contact with the disk. Took it back today and proved it to them. Wrong pads! Going back Friday for a different pair - I'll give them a run and see if I like them :40:

Warning Ford Stamped Service Log Book
acecard replied to ange07's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
I personally hardly ever bother with dealers stamps. I find it far more useful simply to keep every invoice for every service, every repair, every last bulb fitted to the car - much more authentic to prospective buyers than the stamped service record.
