  1. bugger me - the price has gone down to
  2. mmm ok thanks for that - it was just a replacement H7, I wasn't intending to reverse engineer the headlamp assembly. The H7 i bought from the link above via Amazon was identical to the blown one as I expected. I bought two (dog savages the post if I don't get there first) but only changed the failed one and the beams look perfectly matched in colour and intensity so I would recommend them at only
  3. thanks for that - maybe they were selling the bulbs too cheap
  4. Just found this at the price I would expect to pay. Will try it out. http://www.amazon.co.uk/499-Car-Headlight-Bulb-12V/dp/B0028SGJ8E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328123206&sr=8-1
  5. Does anyone know where I can get headlamp bulbs at a realistic price. I'm looking for a H7 for dipped beam and Halfords are asking £9.99 for the cheapest. Either I've just come back to life after hibernating for a few decades or that price is totally crazy. As an example, I can buy a pack from the poundshop (yes for £1) which includes an H4, brake bulb, indicator and various other small bulbs. The H4 used to fit most cars so I'm dead unhappy at the prospect of paying a tenner to change one measly H7. Cheers
  6. You don't mention it but I'm sure you've discounted wheel bearings. Just that I had very similar symptoms once when turning and especially on speed bumps. The wheel seized not long afterwards so maybe worth a check.
  7. Thanks for the info had car serviced and still had service light on really anoying Assuming it was serviced at Frauds, its on the checklist to reset after service. Wonder what else they may have skipped?
  8. Just as a matter of interest more than anything else - it just occurred to me while changing an indicator bulb that ever since i have owned cars and thats more years than I care to admit, as far as I recall, stop and indicator bulbs have always been 21 watt. Why 21 watt? Most household bulbs are in multiples of 10 sometimes 5 but 21W seems such an arbitrary standard. Can anyone enlighten me? Ta
  9. As a matter of interest, my Gal 2006 (55 plate) 1.9TDi due for a cambelt change, phoned local Ford dealer for a price and service reception asked was it a 1.8 or 2.0. No, I said, its a 55 plate amd most def 1.9. Do you want the reg i asked? No, they said, it must be a 1.8. This went on for several minutes, they still would not admit I had a 1.9. Exasperated I gave up and out of curiosity asked for the price anyway for cambelt and water pump, even charging me
  10. Can anyone recommend anyone to do a proper front wheel alignment in the Manchester area? National fitted two tyres recently and asked if I wanted tracking done. I asked if that included camber adjustment and he said no - just toe in. So I wasn't really interested as it seemed pointless. I have suffered from excessive wear on both front inner edges for some time and previous tracking adjustments have failed to resolve the problem, hence I suspect camber hasn't been checked. Glad of any advice Galaxy tdi 2006
  11. try http://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/buy-online/index.php?searchStr=&act=viewCat&Submit=Go to check for battery type
  12. Strange but original Michelns on the front lasted 3 years from new (55 plate 1.9 Tdi). Since then, anything else seems to wear quickly (couldn't afford to replace with Michelins). The rear original Michelins I replaced a few weeks ago. they still had 5mm across the tread! However, sidewalls were looking very tired and its probably unwise to run them for more than 5 years. I think anything on the back will probably last well. Currently have Goodyear Optigrip up front - lets see how they do.
  13. plus not having the correct tyres fitted probably would invalidate your insurance
  14. And don't forget to coat the terminals with thermal grease/gel.
  15. Thanks for that - gosh, makes me think about buying petrol version when i think of what they're doing. She rarely goes over 2000rpm. But i love the 40plus mpg on a loaded car this size!
  16. yeah. pm me - i'll give you some advice :)
  17. Seem to be various part numbers for this but the one that Ford recognise (ie. no blank looks from the spares guy) is 1104837 RESISTOR ASSY As previously mentioned, you need to replace any burnt cables as well.
  18. Talking about the MOT diesel smoke test, I came across this leaflet the other day http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/Diesel%20Smoke%20Test%20Card%20July%2009.pdf The fact that they are at pains to point out it shouldn't damage your engine indicates that it could. No way to avoid it and I guess they are referring to the high revs but whats the situation guys and is there a similar warning for the petrol emissions test?
  19. Smidgeon of damage to the glovebox is a worthy sacrifice for heating and aircon - lets know how you did!
  20. Can someone tell me the correct torque setting for the Galaxy wheel nuts? (2006 55reg 1.9TDi) Cheers
  21. No - the thermal fuse sits on top of the resistor pack. Easily seen once removed from motor. And here it is - sorry about pic quality Just verify it is the thermal fuse by testing continuity across it, otherwise problem is probably in the windings in the resistor pack itself.
  22. No - the thermal fuse sits on top of the resistor pack. Easily seen once removed from motor.
  23. Despite the niggles, it's still one of the best cars I've ever owned! Agreed. Just jesting. The niggles get me down at times but every other car I've owned has been worse.
