Under Shield 1.9 Tdi And Oil Leak
familyman replied to deadpool2e's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A 10 mm socket and an extention bar should do the trick ,later bolts were 14 mm so might be any of the two . The 10 mm bolts are a bit small and can round off very easily ,if this happens try an old 3/8 socked tapped on to the offending bolt and GENTLY try and unbolt it . Leak might be from oil cooler? -

You certainly have some nice "attractions" !

mine started doing something similar just before the ball joints on the gear selector cables gave up the ghost. if you can, try checking if there is too much play on the gearbox end of the selector cables

If you do have breakdown cover make sure that it actually does cover your car -some will not cover cars over 10 yrs old in europe ,and getting a car back from the south of france might be a tad expensive !

Does anyone in this country still have a driving licence? the last few times i've been in a car park, people seem to have no idea of how to park a car! not just gentle nudges when you get too close to a car ,full on sideswipes scraping down the full length of a car ! what's the matter with these people?worse part about is they get out of the car and have no concern whatever about the damage they have just caused ! no one seems to give a toss about it!

Sorry to hear about your bad news mate, just another day in our " tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" country run by frigging tossers

i saw something similar to this on one of the motoring progs on t.v. (fifth gear i think ) they ran the car till it stopped ,drained out the duff juice .filled up with the correct fuel and started it up ,sure it ran rough until the engine got rid of any residual fuel in the system but it was fine after that ,only thing i can think of is that the cat might be contaminated

Reinforced Tyre Worry :-/
familyman replied to neiluk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I ran nankangs on the front of my gal ,and had no problems with them ,this included a fair few runs from Newcastle to cornwall, fully loaded with 4 kids ,wife, luggage and roof box . How many gals are out there running on non reinforced tyres? a fair few i bet ! Get them changed for your own peace of mind ,but as long as you keep them at the right pressure ,check them for kerbing damage etc you should be ok -
Mine's a six seater -no mention of seating capacity on the V5 -might be worth telling the insurance company though ,you know what they're like ,any excuse not to pay out !

Drain point is under the autobox sump , manual says refill the box with 3 litres of the correct oil( see fords and get ripped off ! )start engine, move gear selector through the gear positions ,stop engine ,then with the car on level ground start the engine ,unscrew the level plug from under the transmission ,if the level of the oil is too high it will drip from the overflow pipe, if the level is too low ,no oil will drip from the over flow pipe and fluid should be added until it starts to drip from the over flow pipe-this sounds a bit of a chew on ! to get a better idea a haynes manual has some pretty good pics and drawings of what to do .
-
been through my haynes manual ,and it makes no mention of a filter ,it also says that the manufacturers state the gearbox is "filled for life" with no requirements for the fluid to be changed at regular intervals. The filler plug is located on the front of the transmission,it's tucked down pretty low so might take some finding!

Ok put my name down for it,as long as i don't end up driving the length of the country !

To turn on the traffic announcements ,just press the button marked TA on the right hand side of the radio -this should come up on the display ,as for the rds system- i've only had the gal for 4 years ,so i haven't worked that one out yet !

Can i ask everyone to check the air pressure in their spare tyres ? did mine yesterday ,only to find it down to 20 psi -no use to anyone in the event of a puncture , it only takes a minute and would save a lot of hassle if you were unlucky enough to get a puncture .
