iirc there should be a shroud on the right hand sidelift it up and look down,its a bit tight but it can be done,or i think you remove the light unit? at the top f the page there is a search function,type in what you want to search for and it should throw up lots of posts for you to look through.hth.

there are numerous posts on here where the fuse box near the battery has melted but havnt seen anything posted from the area you have discribed.

iirc it has benn posted on here that the pcb board can sometimes crack through pressing to hard or just brittle with age,or it might be a dry solder somewhere on the board itself.

when you press the button to unlock the car do you open the door/s within a short period of time? on the galaxy if you do not open the doors within about 30 seconds it will relock and arm itself,this is a safty design so ive read on here.

unlock car by putting key in the lock as the key is already programed to the car it will unlock and turn the alarm/immoblizer off,then follow the instructions in the faqs for reprogramming the key to lock/unlock the car.

there has been posted a few times where peeps have had trouble syncing the key to the car,the only thing i can advise is look in the faqs and VERY carefully follow them,i did on my new remote key and got it working after a few attempts.

mmmm think id be taking it back for a refund,dont be fooled on the excuses the dealer will try and tempt you with,iirc under the sale of goods act you have 28 days to have any defects rectifiyed or your money back,give the trade and standards peeps a call there very helpful. from reading/searching on the forum on gearboxes THERE BLOODY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR,i do not know what sort of warrenty they have given you(iirc 3 mths is minimum)now the cynic in me tells me the dealer will keep on topping the oil up until the warrenty runs out then say to you tough your on your own.

i think we can honestly say its the battery,use your phone and ring a few local supplyers and then check out ebay,for the sake of a couple of quid think id rather get one locally.

robtoy,have you recently changed the batteries in your fob?maybe youve lost the imobilizer chip,do a search on the forum for more info.

even if you do not manage to choose a galaxy that comes with built in child seats,you will be able to source them on ebay but they usually go for a few quid,but that is another option to you. do not forget a lot of the parts are the interchangable accross the galaxy/sharan/alhambra range.
