  1. Jules, you should look at personal leasing. The costs are set in black and white and is geared to a short term ownership. For a one year term it may make sense to just long term hire the car(s).
  2. A faulty MAF Sensor would not produce rough running symptoms, only restricted power (slow acceleration and limited top speed). You have not given enough details about your car (engine variant, model year etc) to comment further.
  3. Try using genuine Ford parts - when I used no name links sourced from motor factors, they didnt last long - less than 20,000 miles. However the Ford ones I've now fitted have been on over 40,000 without a problem. IIRC They cost me
  4. I wouldnt like to be in the same car as the blind man driving!!
  5. The PATS chip in the key is a seperate block located as shown below - its not associated with the remote (PCB) The PATS chip must programmed to match the vehicles PATS module (or the module should be programmed - Im not sure which round) I think only dealers have the equipment to do this. Programming the remote key has nothing to do with the PATS.
  6. Please dont post several copies of the same thing on this forum. Once is quite enough. I dont know how you managed to spend
  7. check the electric lift pump in the fuel tank is working.
  8. Why is this thread in the technical section? Its not even a mk1/2.
  9. Its not really surprising considering todays labour rates usually

  11. 1. Remove all that rubbish from drivers door bin 2. Check all the screws holding the dash are screwed tight. 3. Try losing your temper and banging randomly on the dash and door.
  12. Is this problem restricted to 110bhp Tdi models (AUY) and is it associated with high mileage engines (120k+)???
  13. Sep, when you have 40 years under your belt , I might take notice of your wisdom. In the meantime, keep your thinly vailed insults to yourself.
  14. The eco contacts are designed with low rolling resistance/fuel economy as a priority and I believe (from experience) have a slightly harder compound than the the premium contact. The Ecocontacts pioneered the use of silica based compounds - which have many benefits over traditional rubber compounds. Longer life and consistent performance over wider range of conditions maintained for the life of the tyre are the principal benefit of silica use. In fact the "secret" ingedient in Michelins Energy saver (and some other ranges) is the use of silica based compounds. The premium contacts are sold more on performance and safety, but they are also silica based. So eco contacts better life but less performance (grip/handling). I dont think you'll get the eco contacts in your size/load rating. They are aimed at small-mid range cars. The eco contact 3 is the latest generation I think, although I got excellent service out of the original fit eco contact EP's fitted to my sons skoda and they are competitively priced. The mileage you get does depend a great deal on your driving style, maintaining the correct pressures (and good suspension geometry) and loads/speeds and whether you live in Milton Keynes........ Nowadays I tend to buy with safety in mind.....
  15. otherwise known as grip, something I think Chinese tyres tend not to have and so give you that light oversteer feeling....
  16. The best tyre for wear by far on the meerkat is the Michelin ENERGY SAVER (Not to be confused with Michelin Energy, energy 3 or other variants) and this is backed up by independent tests. I'm running them on my sons skoda at the moment. The bad news is that they are not available in your size (or most galaxy sizes) Continental Premium Contact 2 is a good wearing tyre with extremely good handling/performance/safety and my choice for the galaxy. I would expect to get 30,000 miles on the front. Eco Contacts are harder wearing and Sport Contacts are the ultimate tyre but dont think they're available in galaxy sizes. Tyres are too important a safety item for me to consider much anything less than a premium brand, and certainly not one with a name that sounds like a chinese doorbell. Avoid all tyres made in China. I've always managed to negotiate a good price at my local Kwikfit. e.g. last two Conti Premium Contacts (215/60/15 98H RF) for the Alhambra were
  17. and....7 years dealer servicing...!! If that was the deal with my Vauxhall Corsa, it would feel like a life sentence in a mental institution..........
  18. The nature of microcracks are that they stay sealed until the temperature of the metal reaches a critical temperature. Winter driving means the head runs considerably cooler than in the summer. You could run without a thermostat (or a low temperature thermostat or heating on full) as a temporary measure. Have you tried a good radiator sealant? I suspect it would be ideal for sealing microcracks at least for the short term. You should not run without antifreeze (i.e. just top up with plain water) as these engines (heads) corrode quicky without it.
  19. I assume you have a 1.9PD 115 engine not 2.0 as in your profile! Rad flows are always top -> down AFAIK. Most of the time diesels will run with stone cold bottom hose. Pressure loss leads to overheating and kettling. You did check/change the radiator cap? Otherwise loss of coolant usually is head warped or pitted/cracked. Has it been remapped/chipped? If so then I'm inclined to think the heads cracked. Water loss through microcracks around exhaust valve. I read (elsewhere) that auto variants have a water cooled EGR valve that develops micro cracks in the water jacket.
  20. Check the wiring loom to the injectors. Check the connectors are secure and clean. There is a post that wiring looms of a certain vintage gave problems of this nature and Ford issued a new design. Try a search.
  21. What else do you expect from a 30p bulb? Furrows obviously charge about
  22. I think they were just referring to the fact the Galaxy has two parking bulbs each side. So if one fails, there is still one left and is not a MOT fail, just an advisory. You should really have checked your bulbs before taking it in for an MOT.
  23. There is a post on HJ by member PURCT. He is locked out of our forums, and cannot get back in. Apparently the forum email system is not working. Put him aout of his misery and reenable his account.
