  1. Check the unit injector wiring loom and the electrical connectors theron to the injectors (located inside the rocker cover). This is a problem thats been reported a few times before. A new design of loom was supposedly introduced to address this problem. (Try a search for more info)
  2. Well thats a real helpful bit of information! :angry2:
  3. EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation It should only open at medium engine loads/speeds - its used to reduce the combustion temperature and limit NOx It sounds as if the EGR valve is stuck open - either clean it or replace it - this is probably the cause of the poor consumption and black smoke.
  4. Don't forget your brake rewind tool!
  5. I think the STOP warning light may have come on because it saw your fluid level dip whn you braked - the fluid may have then returned to the master cylinder. Its fairly likely you have an air lock somewhere. You probably need one of those pressure or vacuum type bleeding kits - maybe some other member knows the right one to use. Have you tried this - 2 persons required *Check reservoir full Open a brake nipple and someone pushes steadily once to the floor and hold Close brake nipple Release brake pedal gently goto * repeat several times for each wheel This way makes sure that the air doesnt get pulled back on the up stroke.
  6. Seek out your local Rapid Fit and ask for a quote.
  7. Doesnt work, add yourself another 6 points for being a crap programmer.... :D
  8. Cat B Motor vehicles with a MAM not exceeding 3500kg having not more than eight passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg. Combinations of towing vehicles in category B and a trailer, where the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3500kg and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle MAM= 2510kg so you are ok if the gross weight (MAM) of the caravan is less than 990kg
  9. Unladen weight is the empty weight of the car Gross Weight is the maximum permitted weight of car including any load carried. i.e. max passengers and full boot etc Max Train Weight is the maximum permitted combined weight of the car (inc load) and any trailer attached. Max axle load is.....well I'll let you work that one out yourself.
  10. Methinks V = 2510 Gross Weight B=4000 Max Train Weight CD = 1240 Unladen Weight F2 = 1280/1355 Front/rear max axle load
  11. Nice looking car for the price - had a chuckle at some of the "optional extras", pas?,front captain seats? :o "the a/c has just been regassed and only works when it feels like it?" thats also a standard feature.... I see bidder1 is very keen - so keen he bid against himself  Good luck with the sale anyway.
  12. I agree. They told you it had been changed....you bought on that basis.....they lied......they pay to have it changed.......plus compensation for any inconvenience e.g. car unavailable etc.
  13. Oh yes it does.....It has an electric fuel pump - so it must have a fuel pump relay. But thats not the problem in this case I think. The immobiliser relay you overode is just a starter inhibitor relay. The symptom you describe is what the immobiliser does when it doesnt recognise the key. The REAL immobiliser is the PATS system which communicates with the ECU. You cannot "override" the imobiliser. Check the reader coil (IRRC in the ignition barrel) which might have an intermittent connection. "All VW based Imobilisers (Petrol or Diesel) will alow the engine to start and then cut it after 3 seconds. Only the Auto gear inhibitor will stop the starter from turning. If you have access to a 5052 or Vag com this will confirm that the key is not authorised or the ECU has been disabled. <snip>..... did you have to get under the steering wheel or pedal area to remove anything. The imobiliser is fitted up under there with wires going off to the reader coil and ECU. Have a check around that area". Otherwise run a diagnostic (dealer or VAGCOM) - you might have a faulty crankshaft sensor for instance.
  14. May be those silly low profile tyres. Movement could be due to a worn track rod end - quite common on Shalaxys. Any MOT centre will check this quickly for you. Did SEAT give you any geometry figures actually measured? I assume its under warranty... If not it may pay to go to a good tyre centre with laser alignment equipment and ask them to check it out.
  15. Yes, new pipes are expensive, labour is
  16. I'm surprised you've put up with this if what you say is true. You should get 25-35mpg depending on useage I would say. Are you 100% sure of your consumption figure? Can you smell petrol? - Is there a leak? - Examine the fuel system starting at the tank along the fuel lines through to the engine - check for leaks on fuel lines and at connections - note the engine (fuel pump) should be running to pressurise the system - for safety reasons this should be done in a garage workshop - DON'T DO THIS BY CRAWLING UNDER THE CAR OR IN A CLOSED/UNVENTILATED SPACE. Is it running smoothly? Has it been serviced recently? When was the engine's air filter last changed? At 14mpg, you'd be better off scrapping it and buying another car.
  17. Indicated 56mph should be OK, fingers crossed.
  18. No adjustment is possible - hydraulically operated - starting phoning around. Try Rapidfit (Ford's value service arm)
  19. Have a look. Its a 30 second job to check. Pull the plastic bungs under the dash and see if the loom/plug is there (There were on my 1st Mk1). Likewise unscrew the visor mount and look for the plug.
  20. I concur with tiny. Other possiblities to check are a dirty blocked air filter, or carbon build up inn the turbo or in the EGR pipework in which case use of something like Millers Diesel Power Sport 4 fuel additive (at double dose for a few tanks) may help to clear.
  21. I think its possible and I'm fairly sure the floor mounting will be there (my Mk1 Alhambra can accomodate 2-2-2 and 2-3-2 layout) - check with insurance that it ok to do though.
  22. Just dont get carried away! They have been buffed up nicely for the photos no doubt their best face forward, its difficult to judge a tyres condition without a close hands on inspection (for abnormal wear e.g. feathering, imbalance, bead damage etc). note NO RETURNS and
  23. EVERYONE knows the earth is flat ..... ^_^ :P "my Nangkangs just a metre behind them on a much lighter car than my Sharan" Dissing the report yet selecting the bit that you like....... "A workmate has a set of Linglongs on his Merc and they really are appalling" So you agree with the report? "I simply reported that my budget Nankangs were surprisingly good FROM FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE" True....but thats not all you said..... -_- "is your response what they call 'emotional intelligence'?" Yeah, .....claptrap......in the meantime I await with interest the comments of the Insurance association......... -_- Next time someone slides into the back of me, I'll make a point of checking his tyres
  24. Poor connection somewhere - could be clock spring thingy.
