Almost "brimmed" my tank (probably could still manage another 4 or 5 litres though) I've done 140 miles and the gauge still hasn't moved off the full end stop. With the MAF on the way out (I think) averaged 46.3 mpg over the last 1400 miles at an average speed of 39mph, mixed driving,Sainsbury diesel.Longest I've gone on a tank is about 720 miles, but don't let the tank go down too low nowadays as I fill up at the rumour of a price rise (every other week). I'm never in a hurry though. I'm the guy everyone swears at, as I don't feel the need to travel at speed limit+20% until the last possible moment then brake like f**k, only to smoke the tyres to get away again. Let em wait - if someone behind really annoys me I go out of my way to slow him down further and when he eventually risks all to get past, I put my foot down and let him sweat :( :(

IIRC Continental claimed between 3 and 5% improvement , but now that claim is missing from their literature, probably because it is difficult to prove and the competion have probably caught up with their own ECO models. Great tyres nevertheless, BTW Uniroyals are also made by Continental.

Nah, sounds as if something's wrong. Does a petrol Galaxy have a MAF? (sorry, I can't be bothered to look at the TIS at the mo...)

 They're lying, or rather exagerating. You got be real gentle and lucky with conditions to get those figures, and certainly not in a hurry. These people (including me) tend to forget the times when the consumption is not so good. A/C does use a fair bit. GSM guy 80-90mph? No wonder your economy is pants. For those with fuel computer, study as you drive and learn the technique...feel the force young luke...

I'm surprised people think about changing engines nowadays.

Any Paint Experts? Need Some Advice

many years ago I had the passenger door on my Passat replaced under the 6 year corrosion warranty in the sixth year.(small hole appeared in the middle) The VW dealer bodyshop manager proudly said they sprayed the new door 3 times until they got a good match (after 6 years the metallic bue had faded somewhat). I thought at the time that was good service considering the age and the state of the car. I didnt think they would be that bothered. Metallics have always been difficult to match exactly, thats why they spray an entire panel, but a newish car like yours shouldnt be a problem for a good body shop. I would get the Insurance company to agree you take it to another bodyshop. The top one in your town (ask around). Threaten to sue and/or involve trading standards. -

I used a camera lens brush and the hose of the vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of mine and it stopped squeaking/buzzing. (Don't overdo it with the vacuum though) -
PD (poor diesel) Technology. Using the better performance can mean poorer economy - try using the accelerator pedal less or stick a foam brick under it or something. The latest EuroIV diesels from VAG are even worse for fuel consumption. 110 Tdi engine was VW's most thermodynamically efficient engine. I've noticed a tendency for newer Shalaxy models to be less well built, thats why I bought a Skoda instead (well, sort of) Check your tyre pressures and turn off the a/c.

Just a bit, no - a lot narked about HJ site which pulled all my posts discussing the "advanced electronics" of Renault (re: Vel Satis that developed a mind of its own and wouldn't stop news story) because of the "threat" of legal action by Renault. Sounds like the wiring loom in the rubber boot to the drivers door might have some worn insulation. Broken/damaged wires are common here.

Both my Alhambras do/did this at low revs, minimum torque, going down slight incline. Just a control (software) problem, switching from zero to minimum fuelling to maintain revs. Nothing to worry about.

No. VGT Turbos have no waste gate, they control boost by changing the direction of flow of exhaust gases internally. see here for a description No it doesn't, only the 110 Tdi had a VGT. Agreed, a intermitent faulty brake switch/wiring (or incorrectly adjusted) could be the cause. Remember this is a dual switch. search the forum for info about adjusting/replacing.

maybe because it doesnt have one... Checking level is an intricate workshop procedure involving removal of plugs etc. So basically its a sealed for life jobbie (however long that might be) or until some work is done on it
