It is possible that some contamination has got in and is stuck to a vane. Whine is due to impeller imbalance. If it has increased dramatically, its likely to be a prelude to failure.... Why do you change filters so often?? Not only overkill, changing the air filter so often not only has no benefit, but increases the likelyhood of contamination getting in in the first place...

I can recommend these people (among others)

Surely its under warranty so..... :D otherwise change the thermostat first, then if that doesnt fix it the pump.....(the thermostat should be changed anyway if you change the pump....)

Tdi Starting Problems White Smoke- Timing ?
seatkid replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
With diesels, white smoke is usually either due to low compression (worn piston rings) or faulty(worn)/dirty injectors. The white smoke is due to incomplete combustion... It would be difficult to start when cold..... NB repeated use of easystart damages diesel engines.... -

Wheel Alignment Problem?
seatkid replied to markie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A load of tosh...he needs to lengthen one trackrod and shorten the other by an equal amount. Very easy if you have a pit or a lift. His comments indicate he belongs to the league of cowboys -
Any Good Garages Out There

No -
try a new fuel filter then........ this sounds like another one of those we aint seen of these before* threads..... *translation from unknown language.....

 ....my excuse is I don't have laser alignment equipment.... :P
-
 :P is this written in SMSeze?
-
No... thats probably why the steering wheel's no longer straight when going straight!

 hmmph....Glow plugs are necessary to increase the temperature of the (cold) air charge in a (cold) piston and ensure compression ignition of the fuel....if they don't work, the minimum ignition temperature can't be reached when everything is cold and engine speed is low.... If the turnover speed is low (i.e. when cold), the output of these sensors is low (or so I believe) so if they are dodgy then it could be the difference between working and not working. (I only mentioned crankshaft and camshaft sensors as joczeze insisted on the "what if its not the glow plugs" question. ) Which reminds me >>joczeze<< Have you checked you dont have a bad battery??? After the battery, the most likely is the glow plugs..... Please don't ask what else it could be until you eliminate these first!!!!!

Next (I think) after the glow plugs is the crankshaft and camshaft postion sensors.....

Cor...they're Getting Cheaper
seatkid replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Wow! And I thought it cost at least -
In most exchange unit situations I know of, very little of the original is reused but the original may have significant scrap value (e.g. alternators, copper) or more likely is part of a manufacturers recycling/environmental commitment. In the case of a MAF, only the housing is likely to be reused as the sensor itself is a sealed unit, thick film hybrid technology (can't be repaired) and a manufacturer would always supply a new connector (which in this case is integrated). More simply in the case of these Tdi MAFs, VAG know that the new price is way OTT and the exchange scheme is a way of not admitting that and not losing sales to the back door merchants. Perhaps you think they can be recalibrated digitally (flash memory)??
-
Bit difficult when most dealers do EXCHANGE... You can try but IMO you'll be v. lucky if it makes a difference...

I assume you realise you have to wait for the glow plug light to extiniguish before attempting to start a diesel engine? If you do then....check the Glow plugs, start with the fuse, then the relay, and then the Glow Plugs themselves.

Steering Kicks To Left When Accelerating
seatkid replied to Grandad's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Classic symptom of worn track rod end(s) which is v. common problem on Galaxy. -
I had this on No.1 alhambra. Conclusion (out of warranty!) was the subframe or mountings were welded together incorrectly leading to incorrect geometry. Unfortunately the rear suspension has no service adjustment so don't let the garage mislead you. Keep hearing about this problem so I think a certain percentage keep being made wrong... Sorry.....
-
:o :D :D  Failed MOT again this year. Another track rod end! (58,000 miles) Where do VAG source their parts? Some back street in Afganisthan?

Help Before I Have A Moan At The Garage
seatkid replied to Danny Boy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Check your EGR valve, this opens when motorway cruising recirculating the exhaust to reduce combustion temperature. They get gummed up or maybe the control to it is disconnected. Sounds to fit your symptoms exactly. I suspect the diagnostic was actually "EGR blocked" and not "ECU blocked" as I can't see how you can block an electronic control unit! IMO not a MAF issue even if its faulty. -
1996 Galaxy Gearbox Tdi Compatability
seatkid replied to apples24's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
thinks...you need some glasses...1588cc? No, the gearbox on a 1996 Galaxy Tdi is a Ford VTX box, specially made for the Galaxy (no a Scorpio or Sierra box won't fit...) -
Regarding brake components, you should only buy original or genuine OEM parts, or in the case of friction parts, E90 approved parts. E90 pads and shoes are guaranteed perform to within plus or minus 15% of the original equipment specification. The manufacturer should also have ISO/EN accreditation. Please don't put your and other lives at risk by skimping a few quid .....car radios yes... brake parts NO!

How do those people say all aircon systems leak explain how a bit of aluminium piping with wings springs a leak at 3 years old? <_< Some say its to be expected, I say its p**s poor quality. At least I'm not the only one with problems, and it seems the a/c quality issues are as bad as ever irregardless of age of vehicle.... I suspect some people who voted No or partial failure some time ago would now be voting Full failure. So poll results are now likely to be biased.....
