Advice From Techies If Possible...long
seatkid replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I think the problem with diagnosing Maf faults is that all MAF's drift with age but so long as there is a varying output (in the allowable range) the ECU wont fault it but assumes the air flow is blocked by a dirty air filter. Remember the job of the MAF sensor in a diesel is to ensure Euro compliance, i.e. that it is not overfuelled and produces smoke etc. There are possibly (as I speak) a large percentage of diesel cars (and not just VAG cars) on the road with reduced performance due to a half cooked MAF sensor. A lot of people don't notice it as it initially only affects top end performance and it then deteriorates (reducing maximum power) gradually. In this case the driving sytle adapts to the ECU  ..... -

Advice From Techies If Possible...long

Dave-G determined to prove he can fetch things back from the dead.....explains the pic he posted sometime back :P ....do you only come out at night Dave? I tried cleaning one but to no avail. What Neil describes is very plausible - the hot film errodes (oxidation). The integrated electronics recalibrates (on power cycling) until the point it can recal no more. The exchange unit scheme is merely as a result of either VAG/customer complaints, warranty problems, or because they only cost -

The Old Windows Problem..
seatkid replied to latrine's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Probably a broken wire in the door loom, they usually break in the flexing rubber boot going into the door. You're probably going to have to take off the door trim and trace the wiring back from there. -
Advice From Techies If Possible...long

Dear GT-Four, Please ignore Dealers advice, it is almost always wrong. The solenoid they changed was probably the TCS Turbo control solenoid, which regulates the vacuum to wastegate or variable vane actuator depending on the type of turbo fitted. There is nothing wrong with your turbo. Your car has classic MAF failure symptom. Change the MAF sensor, exchange units are available at dealers for around -
Guess What, They Crushed My Sills
seatkid replied to rwtomkins's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Both front and rear but its more common at the front. Its usually only done by garages and is less likely at tyre centres The problem is when garages use a hydraulic four point lifting platform. These have four swinging adjustable arms with an adjustable pad at the end. The idea is to move the pad to the lifting point and adjust the pad upwards sufficiently so the arms will clear the outer sills. On the Galaxy however the height difference of the inboard jacking points and the sill lip is greater than the adjustment of the pad can accomodate. A careful garage will pack the pad to make up the height, careless ones however just lift the platform without checking the (lack of) clearance. Although Andy may have not caused any damage, I regularly see tyre centres where they jack on inappropriate points, mainly on vunerable suspension parts, most people are blissfully unaware of the damage caused. Anyone using a trolley jack directly on a VAG sill will instantly damage it. They are only designed for the supplied car jack which wraps around the lip. -
S.o.s Someone Please Help
seatkid replied to studiodemon's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Who sold you this car? Its evidentally been sold with a fault, and it should be the duty of the seller to fix it. Doesn't sound like much of a Ford dealer. Sounds as if you have a leak in the fuel system....most likely at the fuel filter. Check all pipework and joints between the filter up to the injectors -
No Drive From Any Gears
seatkid replied to corskey's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sorry but I don't understand corksey's statements...... :D :D what the hell does that mean?? If it means that you can move the gearlever into 1,2,3 position and nothing happens, but 4,5,6 are still working, then I think it a gear shift cable problem (do a search for this common problem..) -
Tyre (tire) Rotation
seatkid replied to edwardoplunkett's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
:D mmm.................... :D ........ :D ......yep...(rotate at half life).....unless you do high mileages (20k+/year) But watch they don't crush yer sills!!..... :D -
Most likely to be an ignition fault, check coil(pak), leads and plugs......
-
I've seen this before.....Its a problem that afflicts some cars, its due to incorrect rear suspension geometry, the car was not welded/assembled correctly or the the trailing arms are made wrong. As there is no service adjustment, there is nothing you can do except sell the car or keep swapping the tyres around..... If its just out of warranty you could try to complain ;)

Replacement Of Air Con Evaporator (long)
seatkid replied to Nick's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hey, nice one mate and well done. You're a brave one... Those pics will be appreciated, I have a new evaporator (and drier) waiting under the stairs.... Some questions if you don't mind..... Did you do it single handed? Did you have to work under the car at any time (i.e. did you lift the car, remove the undertray... When you say 2 days, was that with lots of "thinking" breaks? What did the evaporator failure look like? Was it due to corrosion or just bad manufacture? -
You may have a point there, guess I'll just wait until the hybrid is launched.......................................I.m..w.a.i.t.i.n.g....

Another good reason not to buy a VR6....

I vaguely recall that some twin fan VAG models, the 2nd fan is driven by a toothed belt from the first fan....

While you're in the hospital why not book yourself in and get whatever's causing this recurring problem sorted..... :( Hope it all goes well and get that booze chilled...... :(

Owners Manual The immobilizer logic has most likely detected a wiring fault. My instinct is to check the wiring loom going into the drivers door. I doubt its the PCM.....that would indicate elsewhere.

Danny Boy take note.... So now we know, VAG design standards are rapidly heading for the dustbin. So...... lets add to the list..... Water pumps tensioning rollers tie rod ends arb links MAF sensors [long list of a/c components] ..... ..... .....

u need to bleed em.......:( Also there is a possibility that you've pushed crap back into the system and this has compromised the seals. Try and pump loads out of the system when bleeding, better still change the fluid completely, a change every 2 years is the service recommendation.

Better check they did'n't cross thread the spark plugs putting them into your DIESEL engine! What oil did they use? :D
