T'was nowt to do with motors lads :16:
-
My sis recently had this - power drops to "get you home mode" I also had it about 5 years ago - and a VW specialist suggested I check my brake lights - yep one was out. It sounds like an intermittent brake light switch fault - precluding total failure, change it. plenty of these threads to search for too. ATB Dave

Hi guys and girls, could someone translate a Danish document into english for me please? It is about an A4 sheet of instructions - If You work from what I've copied to a word doc. Or you could take it straight from the adobe reader pdf that it came on :D Please PM me if you would as it's not for public consumption. :) Thanks in advance, Dave.

Intermitently Gutless - Not Maf
Dave-G replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I aint been able to get to it yet - but thanks seatkid -
My sisters galaxy 115 tdi is playing her up again. she has a poor performance thing going on somewhere. (She's up from cornwall for 2 days-ish) I tried unplugging the MAF and it goes gutless. (just like when the fault occurs) Her problems seem to start after the car has warmed up, when it suddenly loses grunt. If she switches off the engine - and restarts (yep she's acquired the ill advised knack of doing it on the straight while moving) it clears for a while. Now the last problem she had (wiring loom fault) we could'nt help her out with - so she's been suffering this in silence, and is a wee bit dubious about trying again, but I have every faith that this one can be resolved via this forum :) I had intended to try the MAF in my 02 reg (in her Y reg) but for some reason the 2 tamper-proof screws used to retain the electronics part in the ducting have been changed from a 6 point torx to a five point "torx?" would anyone know what these 5 point torx heads are called?

You can check if the compressor is seized by two methods: Visually: By looking to see if it's shaft is rotating while the engine is running - and aircon at the coolest setting. Ideally get someone to switch it on while you check if the clutch starts to rotate - and stops when they select a warm setting (it's inside the pully that is attached to the AC compressor) Manually: With the engine off reach down (roll ya sleeves up now :( ) try to rotate the components you can see inside the AC compressor drive pully. It should rotate quite freely. If it dont... you got a seized compressor

Yes thanks again i will check that,, much appreciated EDIT: OMG - I left my sign in details on his lappy...? Well done Roy ;) cheeky git :D

Abs And Brake Warning Lamps On
Dave-G replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well I gave the sensor another clean with a paint brush soaked with WD40 - and removed/replaced the plug from the socket fixed to the bulkhead a few times and the brake warning lamp went out. Suitably encouraged, I tried removing and replacing the plug a few more times - switching off the ignition each time. The ABS warning stubbornly stayed lit - with the brake warning lamp reappearing once. Sprayed WD40 up into the bulkhead socket too - still no joy. Knowing it's an mot item, I resigned myself to the idea it might be a fault code thing - or a damaged sensor. Making sure I had a wad of notes in my pocket I headed off to my nearest auto electrics specialist for them to figure it. As I approached them I glanced at my dash... Hey - it had cleared :P  I'm told a faulty ABS system needs a few miles to "re-check" itself ? -
my bruv has a 94K mondeo 1.8lx zetec est. should it have ABS braking please?

Abs And Brake Warning Lamps On
Dave-G replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks MM - I'll be under the car this weekend again. -
I've recently changed my inner drive shaft gaiters, (I was surprised to see they cover more of a uj than a cv joint) and the near side wheel bearing - to clear up a noise that was the subject of a recent thread on here (which has indeed cleared the noise) Changing the bearing involved removing the wheel knuckle - and therefore separating the ABS wiring plug from the bulkhead socket. I had also tried unsuccessfully to remove the ABS sensor from the knuckle - it was pretty well stuck in despite squirting some WD40 around it so I left it. I also scraped some built up crud from on and around the sensor. Could it be that disturbing it has set off a fault code? - or does anyone know if they are they easily damaged by scraping them clean?

Changing A Outer Cv Joint

Are you gonna post some pictures for a sticky MM? -
I've carried a 3 metre kitchen worktop in mine - and 3 metre lengths of wood. Just bung a towel on the dash board and fold your seats (without the head rests) to form a straight line of support to the rear of the car. And also put a towel in front of it in case you brake sharply. Unless yer built like a brick outhouse you'd need a bit of help getting it in and out though.
