Wife Cant See Front !
johnb80 replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A much easier way than having padding etc is to hang a tennis ball on a string from the roof. Adjust the length of the string so that the ball touches the windscreen when the car is in the right place in the garage, works every time, dead simple and save repeatedly nudging the bumper on the padding. Idle speed control or idle air control valve (same item different name) is most likeley the cause of the variation in idle speed, clean the throttle body at the same time as cleaning / replacing the valve. New ones are around

Galaxy Tdi Throttle Problems

And the significance is (curiosity is killing me) Regards - John -
Yes they can be retrofitted, even with a timer or remote control so that you can go outside to a warm car on a cold morning. There is a thread somewhere on here about it. Regards - John

No it's NOT normal for a Galaxy diesel, mine has warm air withing 1/2 mile or so and hot air within a couple of miles. It does however have the booster heater thats giving 5Kw or thereabouts into the water system. The engine is very efficient and doesn't have sufficient waste heat to keep the cabin warm hence the booster heater and the remarkeable fuel consumption that we experience. I have done journeys in excess of 40 miles and still had the booster heater running when I got home (it was -4 outside). Regards - John

The wiper stops by having the supply removed and then the motor being short circuited to use it as a brake. When the switch becomes burned or poor contact it will free run over the stop position and then get power again for it to continue another sweep.
-
Does yours have the aux or booster heater? is it working? without it it will take forever to get heat. Regards - John
-
I would agree that the latch is mopst likely faulty. The rear wiper problem will be the self parking switch being u/s. It will probably mean a new item, it may be possible to strip down the old one and clean the contacts of the switch. Regards - John

Aux Input On Ford 5000 Stereo With Cd Changer
johnb80 replied to a topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
An FM modulator will plug into the antenna socket and the cable from the antenna will plug into the modulator. You then tune a station to the modulator and thats it, you will have DVD sound. Regards - John -
Wife Cant See Front !

I find that mine stops when it hits things  Seriously, I have the parking sensors which work extremely well. Regards - John -
Did you change the sensor for a genuine Ford item? We've had it on here before and people have had loads of trouble with non genuine items. You mention the air pump, I don't know the physical layout, I assume this is downstream of the o2 sensor as it's used to help the Cat heat up. Other thoughts are cracked exhaust manifold (happens a lot 2.3 Ultima's) which admits air so the lamda thinks it's weak mixture and again winds up the fuelling. Further thought fuel pressure regulator ? I'd still put money on the O2 sensor if it's not a Ford one. Regards - John
-
My wifes Ultima 2.3 estate had this problem. I found it to be a cracked exhaust manifold, the crack closes up when it warms up. Well known problem on Ultima's with the 2.3, I assume that the manifold on the Gal is the same. Hope this helps. Regards - John

I wouln't go with the crank position sensor because you say it runs at other times ok and is consistant? When you say it chugs and misfires is this while idling or driving ? If it's while idling I would suggest you look at the idle air valve and/or the throttle body and clean both of them. The idle air valve has other names such as idle speed control, dunno what Fords name is. It will sit on some pipe work between the inlet manifold and the air cleaner,i.e. either side of the throttle butterfly. It adds or removes air when idling under the control of the ECU. A combination of this and pulse width to the injectors sets the idle speed and idle mixture. If it's while driving I would be considering temp sensors (does it run at normal temps ?) or fuel pressure or Lambda sensor. In fact the lamda sensor could be the problem if it's withing a minute or so of start up. The sensor is not taken into consideration to start with, it's given time to warm up. The ECU goes into closed loop at a set point later when the Lamda is brought into circuit. If the sensor is sluggish it may be giving a running weak signal at this point and the ECU will crank up the fueling. Thinking out loud here, I'd go for the Lamda or o2 sensor on the exhaust (same thing, different name). Regards - John

Legall yes they should, however..... I know of an Ultima Estate thats had H.I.D. conversion for the last 2 MOT's without a problem

Agreed and I haven't metion Diesel once. Damn there I go again, sorry, I take it all back  -
Does one dare ask what your initial impressions are between the 6 and the diesel ? I suppose more importantly dare you answer  Regards - John

I thought it was the same as the Sierra / Granada 2 litre engines ? Regards - John

You don't say how old your Gal is, are the reflectors etc in good order ? My Gal has the HID option and I can only describe the lights as spectacular. Regards - John

Hi, I haven't taken anything personally, never do on forums and I do respect people have choice. I do get my soapbox when people know Microsoft because there's no real justification. Microsoft have NEVER bundled Word with Windows it has Notepad, Wordpad and in 3.1 Windows write. Tools>Options>Formatting marks You are allowed to set see all marks, or just selected ones. This has been in Word as long as I can remember and proves you haven't really looked at it. The table aspect is a breeze to use and can have conditional formatting include spreadsheet type calcs etc. The Office package integrates very well with database, spreadsheet and wordprocessor all talking to each other (including dynamic data). Furthermore for very specific and specialised fuctions it all integrates to visual basic though I habven't found this necessary at all. Regards - John P.S. To all the others, sorry for being off topic. -

Thats a matter of opinion, I use word all the time and I can't fault it. You say it's crap, from what point of view ? what can your products do that word can't? I'd be very interested to hear. Note I haven't slagged off your preferred product. Why does the world think gatesy has a monopoly, I don't see it as any different to Ford fitting X make of radio or VW diesels into a Galaxy, have they got a monopoly, why cant I have a BMW diesel fitted etc etc Plain ridiculous if you ask me. When you consider the combinations of processor, motherboard, graphics, sound etc that they have to put up with I think they do a bloody good job. Before anyone knocks Bill Gates they should stand back and really consider where we would be without him. I spent years as a Novell Certified Network Engineer knocking NT networks, I was shocked and stunned the first time I was made to look after one, now with Server 2003 anyone purchasing Novell needs locking up in a darkened room. This really annoys me, what has this guy done wrong? He has created products that most of the world want, he's not holding a gun to you head is he ? If you don't like his products go and buy something else or even write your own. I maintain several medium sized networks (200 - 500 machines) and since the advent of XP Pro and Server 2003 the machines are extremely stable and Network admin a complete breeze. In addition to this the help that Microsoft give to education is extremely generous to say the least. Regards - John -
I wouldn't risk it myself, any gunge thats collected in the caliper pistons then gets shoved back up the brake lines, better to release the bleed nipple and let the fluid out there. Doing it this way you are steadily renewing your brake fluid  Regards - John
-
Yes it is but only a very tiny hole. Removing the lid does make it much easier to push pistons back and in the event of the reservoir becoming over full it doesn't squirt a jet of paint remover in the air.
-
I asked that question and he pm'd me - He pushed the pistons back without opening the bleed nipples. The lid on the master cylinder was removed whilst this was being done. Regards - JB
