johnb80 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Come on give him more of a clue than that, you should explain that it's the turbine powered turbo charger, especially fitted to impress yougsters in their Corsa's  Sorry, we're having a bit of fun, search for auxiliary heater or booster heater and all will be revealled. Regards - John -
V6 Misfire: Any Ideas?
johnb80 replied to ledad42's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Coil packs spring to mind, I don't have a V6 myself  but I know they suffer from coil pack problems, 3 are fitted to the v6, buy one and then try it in the various locations and see if the missfire goes. Regards - John -

I wonder what the customers had to say when told "Youir Multimedia Kit is installed but no you can't use it because it doesn't have a player of any sort" It doesnt sound 'quite' right to me, I was quite shocked at the first price mentioned, now there's no player either it's beyond beleif. Perhaps I'm getting cynical in my old age  Regards - John -
I agree to a point that a Ford dealer SHOULD be in the best position to service / advise the Galaxy owner. Reality is however very, very different. On my Cosworth Ultima my local dealer wasted

Been there, done that with Renault. My Espace needed a new rear brake caliper,

IIRC The v6 is a chain, still needs replacing though, they have a tendency to snap just like a belt in this installation. Regards - JB

Engine Warning Light Problems? Auto Trans?
johnb80 replied to a topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Whilst not being a fan of the V6 gal or having worked on one, I have spent many years as a hobby diagnosing problems on fuel injected engines. The first thing you really must do is to get the fault codes read either by purchasing the lead and downloading the software or take your right arm and shirt off your back and leave them with your local Ford dealer. Once you have the codes, then you know where to start looking, it's also worth looking round all the relevat connector and inspecting them for corrosion, water ingress etc. I know the petrol Gals have issues with coil packs, it may be simply a pack thats failing on yours. Don't burn it yet ! Regards - John -
Don't see how a faulty cap is going to get air into the hydraulic system. It sounds more like a duff cylinder master or slave, my guess would be master cylinder where the pushrod enters. The cap should have a very small hole to admit air as the fluid drops due to wear etc on pads / clutch. Regards - JB

I'm sure the receiver / dryer unit is a seperate item. My 115 TDi Ghia aircon works well. I leave the temp set at 21 all the time and never have to touch it. When the suns out the cooling starts and the environment in the car is very comfortable. I know many people have suffered with aircon problems but mine so far has been trouble free.

I went down to the local motor store this morning, 2 miles away. When I parked in the carpark there were some baseball hat clad hooligans comparing their Nova's and Corsa's with huge exhausts. The aux heater had fired up and was running well, of course when I parked it does the long ramp down. When I returned to my car the Nova / Corsa drivers asked what the noise was. I told them it was the next step up from turbo, a jet turbine powered turbo charger. They all now think may Galaxy is 'really cool man' :D

Mine sounds as if it's coming from the front passenger footwell / glovebox area and yes it does remind me of the old SU pumps. Regards - JB

Engine Stops After Braking Sharply
johnb80 replied to LOZ's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It has been reported before that the message STOP comes up after hard braking. The STOP message appears if the engine is running and oil pressure is lost. It would seem to add up, I suppose IF oil level was low and the braking was severe it just might occur even if baffles were in place. Not sure of the layout in the Galaxy sump, I haven't taken mine apart (yet!). Regards - JB -
Glad I didn't dissapoint you

You're not getting away with that!!!!! Now take the fuel and depreciation into account and it will rise up above ALL of the petrol models to be way, way cheaper to run even though it needs 21 minutes per year more in the workshop. So lets just consider the fuel side to start with, 80,000 miles assuming lets say 38mpg (mines NEVER been that low but I don't want to upset you petrol heads too much) would equate to 2105 gallons =

Engine Stops After Braking Sharply
johnb80 replied to LOZ's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
...at speeds as low as 10 mph, as has happened to me???? Are you sure? Try this simple experiment, get a washing up bowl full of water (or oil if you prefer) and run into a wall with the bowl in front of you. Now look how much water remains. 10mph, I would think it COULD happen, it all depends how quick you stop. I don't recall anyone mentioning a speed, only the fact that they braked sharply. Regards - John -
Engine Stops After Braking Sharply
johnb80 replied to LOZ's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
There have been some reports of a beep and a stop message on the display, this is caused by the engine oild surging forwards away from the pump pickup, low oil pressure results hence the stop message. Why the engine should stop IF the clutch is down quick enough I don't know. Regards - John -
Engine Stops After Braking Sharply
johnb80 replied to LOZ's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I don't see the connection between brake light switch and the engine stopping, dodgy or otherwise. Is it repeatable i.e. every time you brake sharp the engine stops ? I would be tempted to check around wiring connectors associated with the ECU i.e. crank position etc, possibly consider fuel (less likely) water in the filter replacing diesel that the engine needs (does it restart instantly?). Hope this helps Regards - John -
It depends a lot on the miles you intend to do with it. You should expect 19 - 28 mpg, maybe more if you're careful, not a lot in the performance dept. If the price is right and you can live with the above go for it. If you want a good all rounder, go for a TDi, incredible fuel consumption, accepatble performance (it's good performance really but it keeps the V6 drivers off our case) and less depreciation. Double check everything works ESPECIALLY aircon if fitted (don't buy if it doesn't have aircon unless you like driving around in a greehouse). Regards - John P.S. About

The trip computer can be enabled with VAGCOM, it would seem that yours has been enabled but the switches not fitted. Do a search for what can you do with vagcom. Regards - John
