Diesel Stalling
iainkirk replied to Another?Maybe!'s topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
I've never had that problem. I find it's almost impossible to stall and can only recall doing it once in the last 40,000 miles! I can't believe your Galaxy stalled and you didn't notice. Stalling in gear would cause such a thump from the engine that you would think that something had hit your car. I think you possibly need to get your Galaxy looked at rather than it being your driving technique. -
Smoke From Cc Vents
iainkirk replied to dipsomaniac's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I spent a few days either side of bank holiday (English) weekend camping in Scotland...I now have webbed feet. ...oh and my digital camera contained 17 pictures of rainbows as taken by my kids....quite some feat, as of course the sun ALSO has to be out at the same time in order to get one!!!!!! -
Sat Nav For Galaxy ?
iainkirk replied to Davetheref's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Davetheref: I'd set it up yourself. It should only take a few minutes. Also, I'd get the memory card from www.ebuyer.com, as they sell SD cards for a good bit less. You need a 128MB SD card, as the UK maps take up about 100MB. I would personally go for the TomTom Navigator 3 version, although I haven't used other navigation software. If you have any problems with setting up a Mio 168, just ask, as I set up the other half's. The instructions don't tell you how to make the software talk to the built-in GPS receiver! Ho Hum. Got hers working in a jiffy though. My own setup is a Viewsonic V35 (no longer available), but all standard Pocket PCs work virtually the same. Unless you need your PocketPC to do really clever stuff, don't bother paying for ones with Bluetooth, unless you want to use a mobile phone for live traffic news in conjunction with your satnav software. Try also www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk - they do some good bundles (my V35 came from there). Note that the NavMan PiN (and I think also the Garmin iQue 3600) is a re-badged Mitac Mio 168, if you come across one in your search. -
Sat Nav For Galaxy ?
iainkirk replied to Davetheref's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
The TomTom Go didn't exist when I got mine! Besides, I also use mine as a PocketPC anyway. You can't do that with a TomTom Go. I also use a programme called TrafCam, which uses a speed camera database to warn me about accident blackspots (that's why they say the cameras are there after all!). You can't do that with TomTom Go either! TomTom Go looks expensive for -
Sat Nav For Galaxy ?

You've probably seen mine on another thread, but here's what it looks like: (click the link!) Iain's SatNav -
That's why people sell stuff on eBay, because some things are perceived to cost more than they actually do, hence they can be sold on at a profit to people who think they're getting a bargain. Profit on goods, plus profit on postage/packing = :(

Manufacture date: Can be confirmed by your VIN, but may have been December 2002/January 2003. Ford UK Warranty: One year manufacturer's warranty, 30,000 mile limit, plus 2 years Ford Protect (ie insurance based) warranty, maximum mileage at 3 years = 60,000. Yup, Motorpoint were

Too much oil. Tell them to drain some off. Caused by them putting the entire 5 litre container in I imagine, rather than the correct amount.
-
My warranty started on 14/8/03 as well! You probably don't want to know when your Galaxy was probably manufactured in that case, as you might be shocked! However I bought my Galaxy on 1st September 2003, so I only lose 2 weeks warranty. I got mine from Motorpoint. What is more important to me is the unlimited mileage part of the 2 year Ford Europe warranty. As my Galaxy will have covered approx 90,000 miles by 14/8/05, that beats the Ford UK 3-year 60,000 mile warranty hands down in my case! Anyway, my battery was replaced by Ford dealer this morning. The anticipated response came from Ford UK - "the warranty on your battery is only 1 year and expired on 14/8/04, so the replacement will be charged to you", until I pointed out that I had a 2 year Ford Europe warranty at which point they shut up and confirmed that I wouldn't be charged! :D The Ford UK warranty only covers the battery for 12 months  Same as you Taliska, normal Motorcraft 71Ah Lead Acid battery fitted - no doubt you only get the higher spec one when you're paying the bill!
-
Taliska - I recall the original importer of yours (and mine) from a previous post was SPA Rentals. I wonder if our Galaxies were manufactured at a similar time and there is a duff batch of batteries?
-
My battery failed over the weekend. Just under 12 months old. Didn't your Gal come from the same place as mine Taliska?

Holding The Spare Wheel
iainkirk replied to ben hudson's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The wire rope is too short - the handbook shows the removal position for the spare wheel as being with the wheel vertical in front of the back bumper(ie to the rear of the car). Some chance! I can't get the spare wheel less than 5-6" off the floor under the car, let alone towards the bumper. A design fault I think! I will be requesting the cable is changed for a longer one under warranty at next service. -
errr...that's what I meant to say!

I'm sure (current) Galaxies don't have a red key anyway. Red keys are for "real" Ford cars only. Galaxies come with one microchip key, one ordinary key and one plastic template key to get a new one cut from. OK, 2004 Galaxies Ghias have two microchip keys, but apart from that, I think I'm correct????

Pocketpc (and Other) Satnav Solutions
iainkirk replied to iainkirk's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Being a sneezer, I never drive with the driver's window open! That's what the climate control and pollen filter are for! I I have a window open, it would be ne of the other 5. -
As there's a bit of discussion going on about SatNav and GPS Speed Camera software, I thought I'd post a picture of my installation: It's a Viewsonic V35 with a Haicom GPS receiver (sitting behind it in the front side window), running TomTom Navigator 3 and TrafCam software. The suction mount cost me

Oem Satnav Installation
iainkirk replied to stourwalk's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I'd personally go for a PocketPC based system and forget trying to fit an OEM system. -
As cruise control normally works on vacuum (does it on Galaxies??), I would assume this must be a problem in reducing vacuum (suck as a stuck valve?), if it takes ages to turn off.

Prices are on the up for tyres too.... blo*dy oil price....

Alloy Wheel Security Nuts
iainkirk replied to familyman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The VW lock nuts are sh*te. Try changing a wheel anywhere other than at a tyre depot/garage, using the wheel wrench supplied with the Galaxy. The angle of the wrench handle makes it almost impossible, as all that happens is the lock nut gets damaged and the wheel bolt stays where it is. A design defect and hence you should insist that lock nuts and security bolts are replaced under warranty whenever they get damaged. -
Your insurance company WILL notice. When they send assessors out, that is one of the FIRST things they will look at - tread depth, tyre damage and correct type of tyre. Wrong tyre = modification = NO INSURANCE! I know this to be true.

and my last post disappeared to where exactly?????
