  1. I've done 43000 miles in mine in the last 14 months and averaged 35mpg. Starting from cold it will go as low as 18mpg and I've managed 48mpg on single carriageway A-roads. My driving style could not be described as "economic", but then I don't pay for any of my fuel...
  2. It is fitted to the seat with a Torx headed screw (I think!), located at the bottom of the hole which you have taken the plastic cap off. On my previous Gal, I managed to tighten it using a large flat screwdriver however. Don't pull it off whatever you do, or you will pull part of the seat off if you succeed!
  3. Tell the rogue garage they have broken it would be my first call. Is the Gal still under 3 years old? If so, the winch will be replaced under warranty, as mine was a few weeks ago. Having looked at mine before it was replaced, it appears that you can remove the winch from the car by undoing 2 allen key bolts under the car and removing the winch assembly. You can probably then unwind it off the car and then re-wind, but I can't say for sure. The cable is probably chewed up inside.
  4. There's a thing on Ebay at the moment - not an original item, but apparently made to fit: Bumper Protector thingy
  5. It's in for replacement on Thursday. "We've never had to charge anyone for one of these within warranty period" said the man at the Fraud dealer!
  6. Well it happened, my spare wheel carrier has failed after being operated a whole 3 TIMES - once to take my steel spare off to replace with an alloy one, once to swap a baldy for the spare and once to get the spare replaced! All 3 times removed by me, with the wheel wrench and never with a tyre shop air "gun". Now I come to change a wheel and the bl**dy thing will only come down an inch before it starts clicking aimlessly. Any tips for removal, other than the wire cutters? Also, has anyone had any problems getting these replaced under warranty, as this is one of the biggest design faults I've ever seen and should surely have resulted in a recall IMHO ??
  7. I don't think they introduced 130PS at 52 reg?
  8. Mine has lumbar adjustment (2003 pre "chromed-up" model). I find the fuel gauge quite accurate, although I was suprised about the lack of "miles to go" on trip computer, given that most trip computers have these now.
  9. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
  10. My 12 month old Galaxy has done 41,000 miles. I've averaged 37mpg (I've got lead shoes - according to the 'puter), which equates to
  11. Errr yes, probably all of us. See also rear nearside passenger door!
  12. Off-topic, but surely 32768 is related to hexadecimal (Base 16) or octal (Base 8)and not binary! :P
  13. I consider they have probably comitted a criminal offence (deception, falsification of documents etc etc). Write to their MD, suggesting you might give them some negative local press coverage (local rags love these stories) and also contact your local Trading Standards office, who will probably be delighted to prosecute the dealership in question. As Hartwell have franchises for everything from Hyundai to Daimler, I doubt their MD would like a dose of bad publicity. Hartwell Plc Seacourt Tower West Way Oxford OX2 0JG Tel: 01865 388300 They even have an MGRover franchise - perhaps they've even sold one this year!
  14. My battery expired at 12 months, as did a few other people's. With the assistance of an in car fridge being the common cause... The don't half sh@g batteries when they flatten them, it would seem!!!
  15. See my other thread for the quality of Ford servicing... Incompetence Reigns
  16. The Galaxy went in for her 40,000 mile service on Wednesday. When I arriced at the Ford garage, I reminded the service manager that they had overfilled my oil at the 30,000 service. He carefully noted on the job sheet "Do not overfill oil". As I was in a hurry when I returned in the afternoon to collect the car, I didn't check the oil. The
  17. New Ghia alloy wheels can be regularly had on Ebay for
  18. That's cos I got 20k and 30k prices the wrong way round! Ivor is correct!!
  19. IMHO: Shell diesel Extra: No different to the rest. BP Ultimate: Seems to result in smoother running and more mpg, but I haven't worked it out for sure as I have a fuel card. :D (and I only pay tax on the ACTUAL private mileage-fuel, as it's my Galaxy and not my employer's :D
  20. Ahhhh Monsieur SA L'Intrudeur! So you live there permanently now then???
  21. On French roundabouts, traffic ON the roundabout must give way to traffic ENTERING the roundabout, unless there is a sign which says you don't have to!!! Interestingly, the Germans get around this problem by not having ANY roundabouts...
  22. Another?Maybe: Steel spare = imported vehicle - I think UK supplied Galaxies have 5 alloys, whereas imports have a steel spare. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Dunlop 2020 = original tyre, Michelins = replacement tyre. What was the mileage when you bought it? Front tyres last 15-20,000 miles IMHO. Seems like a good price though!
