  1. Thanks for the reply chrispb. The aux heater does start but shuts down after a short while because of overheating. I have checked for any fault codes but fortunately it is clear. I am fitting a new secondary water pump this weekend if I can get to it. B)
  2. Can someone verify that I am correct. My electric secondary water pump has stopped, does this affect the booster heater not starting? I am sure that I have read this some where on the forum but I can't find it now. Thanks in advance for any information.
  3. Do a search for auxiliary water heater. It's located under the car and helps warm the coolant because the TDI engine is so efficient it can't generate enough heat on it's own.
  4. I managed to buy an old Sony laptop for £20 as a non runner. Stuck a new hard drive in with Windows XP and all working. It's verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyy slow but ideal for use on the car. :)
  5. It won't run on Windows 7 even in compatibility mode. :)
  6. Some wires break inside the insulation so it looks ok. You will need to pull each wire to see if they feel "stretchy" and this would indicate a broken wire.
  7. Judging by what you are saying about the fog light symbol you could have a bad earth connection. Someone on this forum will probably be able to tell you where the earth post is in that area. You also mentioned one fog light, I think you should have two, mine has.
  8. Press the AUTO button and set temperature required and it does the rest..............................................if it's working :glare:
  9. It sounds like the electric run on pump. It's main job is to prevent hot spots building up in the engine when the engine is stopped. On diesel models it is also associated with the auxiliary heater under the car. it is located right at the back of the engine compartment towards the right of centre. Unfortunately they go noisy when they are getting ready to fail and you won't get a lot of change out £100 for a new one. I think there is a FAQ on this forum where someone has managed to repair one.
  10. Yes. Tyres must be Extra Load/Reinforced/etc. I believe widths depend on model/engine/spec and range from 205 to 225.
  11. Brake Light switch has also known to be a culprit. I believe it utilises two electrical tracks and has been known to impact on the engine management system and subsequently the gearbox getting incorrect signals from the ECU.
  12. I had a new 2.3 auto some time back and mixed urban and dual carriageway only got around 20mpg. So if yours is all short runs around town etc then it's not too bad.
  13. I am currently using Kumho tyres. So far very pleased with them. What ever tyre you choose make sure they are rated as Extra Load or Re-enforced.
  14. Try getting the ATF fluid changed first. This really needs to be done by a garage who knows what they are doing as levels have to be checked at certain temperatures. Also check the wiring between the gearbox and it's ECU as this has been know to wear through.
  15. Thanks for the replies. Can't even see it so another job for the garage.
  16. Sorry to be thick but can someone post a picture of it and do I have to change the whole tensioner.
  17. I have had the alternator pulley replaced to try and stop the aux belt chattering when cold. The garage I use, good guy, said it may be the bottom pulley giving the problem. Is the bottom pulley a clutch type or do I have problems else where. Thanks for any replies.
  18. Hold in the odometer reset button and switch on the ignition.
  19. It is not just the cable, you would need Ford diagnostic software as well to interface with the engine.
  20. I have seen reference to a puller for removing the wiper arms on the Galaxy, but can I find it.................. Please can someone advise what puller I need and even better a link to a source. Thank you.
  21. The airbag warning light is normally caused by a faulty coil/clock spring on the steering wheel. Don't know why the passenger seat should cause the problem probably just coincidence. Do a search for clock spring for instructions how to change it.
  22. Do a search for gear linkage cables. I think they are a ball and socket connections and can pop off when worn. People have be able to pop the offending cable back on and secure it with a cable tie.
  23. You must make sure that the oil you use is to VW505.01 spec otherwise you can get premature engine wear. The TDI engine in the Galaxy is actually a VW engine.
  24. Do the gears change at all? It could be in Limp Mode (Third Gear). You can always try disconnecting the battery for half an hour to see if the fault clears, make sure you have the radio code.
