Hi Brian. No I didn't get aligned. I was saving that for when I get 2 new front tyres. I gave the track rod end exactly the same amount of turns as the old one, so don't think it is a million miles out, but obviously a bit out. There feels like there is too much play in the steering wheel. Camber's in road also have a big effect like manhole covers. 15'' tyres. Not sure on other sizes, will find out later.

But....car still wonders about. Especially bad when you go over a manhole cover in the wet. I previously found a worn inner track rod. Loads of play in it. I was chuffed because I thought this has got to be the problem. I renewed inner rod, and track rod end while I was at it, but was gutted to find there is still a problem. Not as bad as it was ( it was bleddy dangerous before), but definitely still a noticeable problem. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Injector Cleaner/fuel Economy? ?
mrben replied to mrben's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ok thanks brian, I will give it a crack. -
Hello again gent's. Could anyone recommend an injector cleaner?, maybe there is an additive I can stick straight in the fuel filter? Basically, I have quite bad fuel economy (compared to my mk1). I get 560 miles a tank, that is with putting 76 litres in there (33.5 mpg). I can't see any obvious leaks. No pools on floor. Runs fine when heated up. I'm thinking injectors because, when I start up in the morning, its a bit lumpy, almost like if it were a petrol engine you would say its 'missing'. There is also a bit of smoke for a minute or two on start up, which makes me think the injectors have been dripping a bit through the night...as always, any info appreciated. Thanks.

Gearbox Additive Suggestions?
mrben replied to mrben's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ok thanks for the info brian. -
Hi chaps. Could anyone recommend a gearbox additive? its got a horrible crunch going into second and third, especially when cold, and feels generally tight. I can't actually clearly see where you put the gearbox oil in (I havnt got the haynes for this car), so a bit of direction would be appreciated. Cant see any obvious signs of a leak...yet. If there was a leak, is there an additive to potentially stop this also?, as I know there is some pretty good water system stop leaks out there... 2001 diesel, 6 speed. 140k.

Afternoon all. Looks like i'm going to need to replace the steering rack. I thought it was the bottom ball joint making the steering vague, but jacked it up and checked them, and they are ok, but i found play in the steering (in the boot that is pictured). Has anyone does this job before? Any tips appreciated. Thanks.

Belt Schreach On Mk2 (Not Pulley) X-Reg 1.9 Td
mrben replied to mrben's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Many thanks chaps, will do these things and report back. -
Hello all. Just checked pulley, and is spinning fine the other way. Funnily enough when i relaxed the spanner so the tension went back on the belt and started it, schreach doesn't seem so bad. It mainly happens when puttting your foot down in higher gear with all electrics on. Belt looks in vgc. I soppose its a case of trying a new belt, before splashing out on a tensioner. I cant think what else it could be?

Brake Problem-Don't Think Master Cylinder
mrben replied to mrben's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes, im trying to remove the inserted barbed piece, without damaging the hose its in, as its arrived in the post with a barbed connection on i dont need. I will try with boiling water and wedge it somehow to be able to give it a bloody hard pull... -
Brake Problem-Don't Think Master Cylinder
mrben replied to mrben's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks paul. Problem is, there isn't a bit i can cut away, as i need the end of the tube, that has the barbed flute in that needs to be pulled out. I was thinking of pouring boiling water onto it, but i don't want to risk totally mis-shaping the hard plastic tube (which i know boiling water can do sometimes...)
