  1. Had a problem with a crack in a hose, leading to loss of gas etc etc. Cost
  2. Hi All, It turned out to be a very small crack in the aluminium part of the hose leading to the valve at the fron t of the engine that the gas is injected through. All fixed now and the regass was done by a machine that did all the nitrogen thing, vacuum etc. Took about 20 mins apparently to go through the full cycle. Regards. Oggy.
  3. Yup, that's how it works on mine. Cheers. Oggy.
  4. Ummmm, thanks for the reply, trouble is I am aware of the seal drying problem and do run it on full cold occasionally through the winter. Can't figure out how something similar happen at the end of last summer though, only a few months after having it regassed! Thanks anyway. Oggy.
  5. disgraceful ... Ummm any room left?? ;)
  6. Hi Folks, Any help with this appreciated. Last Aug/Sept (after having it re-gassed about May time) I had a partial loss of gas (whispering noise by the dash). Feared the worst but had it topped up and all has been fine until today when it has happened again, but this time I think it is more than just partial. It was fine this morning, but at lunchtime the climate display flashed for about 10 secs on start up and there is a total loss of any chilling (it was 13.5 C ambient). I really do think that this has been a sudden loss because until lunchtime today chilling has been fine. There are a few precedents for flashing climate units on this forum so I will probably go for the cheapest option and get it re-gassed again and see what happens, but has anyone any idea what the cause of the occasional gas loss is or what could be going on here please. Ta. Oggy.
  7. I was born in Kent!
  8. They've got some kit for doing it on the car.
  9. Here's the photo showing the position of some of the lugs - sorry it doesn't show then all. It on the drivers side door.
  10. Hi All, With the aid Matts excellent post on this some while back I took the card off the drivers side last weekend to get to an annoying rattle. Thought I would just comment on whether the card really needs to be prised off as the lug on the door seems to have a slot in it that will allow it to slide off. It looks as though a good upwards shove (and it would need to be a GOOD shove) might do the job instead of prising the card from the door frame. This had a 'sort of' test when halfway through putting the card back I realised that I had trapped the wire for the door mirror remote, and it worked, but it wasn't with every stud re-engaged and I did not want to tempt fate by trying it after I had got the card fully back on!!! I have attached a piccy of the lug with the slot!! Also will add another one showing the positions of some of the lugs. Sorry not all are shown, but it might help!! Regards. Oggy.
  11. Hi All, Just got through the MOT but was advised that front pads had about 3,000 miles left in them and that when they are done the disc's will need skimming!! I realise that it will depend on driving style and things but in general do the disc's really need skimming at that mileage or could I do it myself and let them bed in? Cheers. Oggy
  12. If it helps - I get the whine and a slight smell sometimes but no smoke that I notice. I really don't know if the smoke alone means it is faulty. Though if it is working I wouldn't worry too much, unless the smoke is excessive. Cheers. Oggy.
  13. So as as with other temperature indictors on the vehicle it is as much the case of WHERE the temperature is measured as what the trigger point is. Interesting that you found a wiring fault. Mine packed after first being fixed so I had to take it back to the garage and they found that a connector was not making properly. I am sure that I read somewhere in this forum that it is quite rare that the unit actually NEEDS replacing. Though it is common practice, particularly at the dealer. Glad you are sorted. Oggy.
  14. For what its worth, I reckon that it is rare that the coolant temp is the issue. I thought that before my aux worked properly and I tell ya that you only have to park up for 10 mins and it will come back on when you restart, even after a longish run. I really don't know where the 75C for the coolant temp is measured for the aux switch off but it can't be the same place as the temp gauge on the dash, cos the Aux still works even when the dash temp is saying 90C!! Also, for my motor the faulty codes for an open circuit glow plug did not have to be cleared, it just started working when it was fixed! Incidentally my work was done by a small garage, not a main dealer and we both learnt the job together, even if I was paying for their learning but that
  15. And if my understanding is correct the temperature that is displayed in the cab is the temperuture which is measured by a sensor at the front somewhere by the bumper. The aux heater temp sensor is on the wiper assembly and as it is in a different location it will be at a different temperature. Thus you cannot rely that the temperature that is displayed in the cab is what is being measured by the aux heater temp sensor and thus controlling it switching on. <_< Oggy.
  16. Where is the metering pump for the aux heater located? Cheers. Oggy.
  17. .... and its just about living on a main road. In quite cul-de-sac's children may be playing in areas that they would not on a main road with the obvious dangers if cars start rolling off on their own! Vehicles should always be tested after such work and that it either was done so incompetently or not do at all is a major factor IMHO. I accept that the way that mistakes are remedied are a good measure of customer care but not of technical competence and professionalism. Did you know that it is a fact that more customer loyalty is gained by recovering from disaster with excellence that just doing what it says on the tin all the time? Not fair is it!! Oggy.
  18. Similar to MM, in cold weather and with the front and rear (in cab) heater blowers working the effect seems to be that the coolant really struggles to reach temperature. So its no surprise at all that the unit is still working after 16 miles. In fact in really cold weather, from what others have said here and my own experience I reckon that it is quite possible that if you are not putting a lot of load on the engine that after many more miles than that the unit could switch BACK ON!! It follows therefore that it could appear to still be running after many more miles than 16, but in fact in had not been running continuously. HTH. Oggy.
  19. Its not arrived yet ;) But the good news is that the aux haeter, my main reason for getting it, is working ok now :o Cheers. Oggy.
  20. Agree with GSM in that doing 50 miles less on a 'tank full' or 'wallet full' :D is a very coarse measure. As well as conditions and driving style, the weather has been very cold which could also be a factor affecting fuel consumption. Although the Aux Heater uses fuel could there be payback in that the coolant reaches operating temperature quicker, or does that not have much effect on the real operating temperature of the engine? Cheers. Oggy.
  21. MM, Garage just looked at it and from what they said you were bang on. It seems that my glow new plug is a modified version where the connection is not on top of it, instead the joint on top of the plug is soldered (or similar) and the connection to the cars wiring is further away. That connection had not been made properly. Fixed all now working fine. Only remaining question is how long should the Aux Heater take to switch on. Seems to be about 10 minutes at the moment but will wait till it all settles down and see. At the moment I am just really grateful that it works at all!!! And I think there is another that is discussing this. Cheers. Oggy.
  22. Hi All, Given the number of posts there are in the Technical Section that relate to AirCon, Climate Control, Aux Heater and such, I,ve been wondering whether it would be worth suggesting that we have another forum named something like the subject of this post? Just a thought. Cheers. Oggy.
  23. Juba, On what basis are you saying that you have done 50 miles less? Oggy.
  24. Another hit when searching for auxiliary!!!!!
