Best Way To Flush Rad

i think that too. the oil light flashed just once 1/2 mile from home and because the temp gauge hadnt gone up more than half way i drove it home without stopping. whats your opinion on this seatkid ? its very odd i did use an original ford thermostat but it gives the same reading as before very high -
hi all again, still having a problem with the tdi 90 97 year running hot. it all started after a 200 mile trip in which the turbo oil supply pipe started leaking oil. the engine didnt overheat on way back the gauge stayed in the middle as always. it lost around 2l of oil. we changed pipe but then on way home for some odd reason the temp gauge went much higher than normal when i was in a que. it now runs at the top end of the norm and sometimes goes nearly in the red the fans work and cool it slightly. we have left it runningfast idle for 2 hours and it doesnt steam over or leak. it just runnis much hotter than normal. ive changed the thermostat and bled it but i never thought to back flush the rad the original one from 97 . its now the same just runing at the high end. ive had a few expert opinions from its just running higher than normal for some unknown reason to the .... ooooh could be gasket. in the 4 weeks its been like this it hasnt used any oil or water and nothing is mixing and the car runs fine apart form high temp. front and rear heaters work fine so i think the water pump is ok. one expert rreclons that once these rads overheat one time they are then prone to do it there after. i was going to flush it out so can someone tell me the best way to do this. should engine be cold....do i then refill and run with cap off to vent it. or is there a way to do it differently. i know from a few years of running these that they are more prone to run cool than hot so something is amiss somewhere just trting to pinpoint whats the cause. it doesnt matter if the heaters on or off it just gets to the smae high temp after around 30 mins of running. thanks

MANY THANKS FOR HELP have ordered new cog will have to try some emetal to try and get the bolt to hold i think
-
thanks for that its odd the teeth on the cog are worn away and the bolt will not nip up but the teeth on the plate that it rolls on to tension it are in good condition why isnt the belt loose i cant fathom
-
hi have we decided what this item is ? im confused ! its not a bearing of any sort the bolt goes thru it but wont tighten up but my belt is tight ! as you tighten it whats it supposed to do if i get a new one how much do i nip it up
-
why is the belt still tight when this adjuster thing is just going round and round and wont tighten up /
-
the bolt that goes thru the thing with the teeth keeps working loose and wont tighten up plus all the teeth on the thing are chewed up i cant fathom how its keeping the belt tight when its not doing anything the rusty spring is a home made affair to keep the aircon hose away from the belt. think i will get a new toothy thing but any ideas how to tighten up a bolt that must have worn threads in the housing where it goes ?
-
hi all can anyone tell me what this is for this bolt has worked loose from i think the power sterring pump bracket. on the knurled thing that the bolt goes thru its all chewed up and the bolt wont tighten is it power steering related the belt thpough is still tight 1997 90 tdi galaxy thanks dont know how i got two pics on !

How Do I Change Belt Tensioner
marinabrid posted a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
HI have looked at posts and on tis but cant find how to change the aux belt tensioner unit and pulley tdi 90 on a 97 year the pulley is on a bent arm that seems to be going into the tensioner that is bolted to the engine just behind the altenator seems to have 2 bolts but i presume its spring loaded has anyone got the method of changing it thanks -
hi again, the tdi 90 97 year on the front of engine where the alternator is just behind it sits the belt tensioner, with the long umbrella shape arm holding the pulley wheel to change the tensioner there is 2 bolts, do i just unbolt it and swop or is there a more complex job to be done first ? do you have to remove the drivebelt ? the pulley when running is bouncing up and down like crazy thanks

the full story was coming home form hols 120 miles the turbo oil supply pipe got a hole in it and the oil seeped out the warning light came on for the oil with a mile to go so i drove home. i added 2.5 litres of oil and drove to work next day. car had not overheated at all during journey home or from work. then got it on ramps and found the split pipe we changed that pipe -
