The muppet has very seriously pulled the wool over you eyes electrical problem's do not magically fix themselves for every electrical problem there are definitive soulotions i suggest you steer clear of the garage you have taken the car too and take it to your nearest vw garage as the car is more vw than ford or if your feeling brave take the car back to ware you had it cough fixed and demand a prompt repair loan car or full refund small claims court really don't like dodgy car dealers. if you have been bleed dry by the said garage and said problem is over 12months if you wish to fix the problem yourself the starting and cutting out could be the the pats alarm system cutting out the car thinking its being stolen or it could be a crank sensor either one would normally show up in a vag diagnostic software which you can buy a lead and diagnotisc software from fleabay or see if your local to a member and they will do a quick scan for some beer vouchers extremely unlikely that a good oil and plug change would solve a consistent 3-4 sec start problem it more likely a dodgy relay cyborg

Hi bluelight, might be worth having a look under passenger seat for broken or eroded wires going to CCU (central control unit) door control unit sometimes they get waterlogged bizarre but true .

My V6 had a JAG engine Actually the mondeo /Jag Duratec v6 engine was designed by porsche :huh: ford bought it and fixed....... evolving to less power dodgy impaler pump's and lots of cheap parts faults .Strangely the newer faster mondeo's are more the original design :)

As its idling ok i would not have thought it was the tps if its on way out idle becomes rough and i think its unlikley same fault would reproduce exactly the same each time. Could be grounding out when under load check the coil for splits and check earth's Possible duff relay to ecu

While you have the MAF off it would be a good idea to clean the ISV could be stuck with thick old oil

Try disconnecting the maf then reconnect it if not give it a clean and try again failing that could be the cat save alot time if you have VAG diagnostic leads / software

hi big philly an welcome to the galaxy forum depending where the break is you might do it with a fiver spent on a B & Q Compression fitting (pipe connector). Volkswagen sharan ,seat Alhambra and ford galaxy are all the same more or less bar the badges so its possible to widen your search for the pipe i did a quick search for you looks like this bits got your name on it of course you need to check part no. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGON-SHARAN-TD...id=p3286.c0.m14 as for an alloy weld, the weld would probably last forever not so sure about the pipe :)

Hi marie and welcome to the forum sounds like some sticking needles its possible that a transistor is on its way out. Try unscrewing the instrument panel and do a wiggle test for loose wires just in case its something basic. you can get a dash from a vw sharan or seat alhambra 1.9 tdi when you unscrew dash about 8 screws remember to get part number off unit should read 7M3 920 900DX for 160 mph speedo or 7M3 920 900CX for 140mph speedo scrappys cost about 30 new around 130

do a compression test just to check for head gasket otherwise its turbo based. white smokes sounds like the turbo's exhaust side seal has gone with oil making a lots of vaporised oil white smoke .
