Help Needed-gear Cable
Bigjeeze replied to BULLTERRIER's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
[ thats what I did to mine and I have driven a couple of thousand miles like thiswiyh lots of gear changes (Taxi Driver). No probs.Ran a cable tie thru a bolt hole on the battery tray and onto the gear cable.Am promising myself putting a new cable on will not go onto the long finger I did this too still ok after 2 years regular driving  This is fine I am sure - if it's you driving the car - Mine is my wife's car and she whilst OK at mechanics would not be able to replace the ball joint with or without a cable tie in an on road breakdown scenario. I work on the basis that I would prefer to know it is reliable and safe than run the risk of it breaking in the wrong place. That said -it's always good to know there is a get you home fix. -
I don't think that this is the splines issue as a) it wouldn't affect the gearchange at all and b} the splines problem is only encountered on the MK2. It is either the gear selector cable or possibly the selector bolt has fallen out which is quite common on the Mk1 - do a search.

AnAmersham senior citizen drove his brand new Aston Martin convertible out of thecar salesroom. Taking off down the road as fast as he could towards themotorway, where he floored it to 90 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through whatlittle hair he had left. "Amazing!" he thought as he flew down the M40, enjoying pushing thepedal to the metal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a policecar behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. "I can get away from him - no problem!" thought the elderly nutcaseas he floored it to 110mph, then 120, then 130mph. Suddenly, he thought,"What on earth am I doing? I'm too old for this nonsense!" So hepulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch upwith him. Pulling in behind him, the police officer walked up to the driver's side of theAston, looked at his watch and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 10 minutes.Today is Friday and I'm off on holiday for the weekend. If you can give me areason why you were speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let yougo." The man, looked very seriously at the policeman, and replied, "Years ago,my wife ran off with a policeman. I thought you were bringing her back." "Have a good day, Sir," said the policeman...

High Mileage Mk2 Galaxy.............
Bigjeeze replied to cantona2's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
I have a reasonably high mileage Mk2 I have had it from new and have 179K on the clock. So far I had a new clutch at 138k but nothing major has been replaced . Still going strong ( so far!). There are others on the forum with higher mileages than mine. -

A doctor was addressing a large audiencein Oxford... The material we put into our stomachs should have killed most of ussitting here, years ago. Red meat is full of steroids and dye. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High transfat diets can be disastrous and none of us realizes thelong-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. But, there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and most of ushave, or will eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief andsuffering for years after eating it?" After several seconds of quiet, a 70-year-old man in the front row raisedhis hand... ...and softly said, "Wedding Cake."

Why not ask them where they get their prices from? Or if you are confident then buy them yourself and pay them the labour to fit. Either way you should save some money.

The cambelt on the PD engine is simplicity itself. It does take a while due to the amount of kit you need to remove to get at it but once there it is very very easy for the average mechanic. The labour rates that garages charge are an absolute joke - totally unjustifiable. I did mine a few months ago and all it cost was the belts tensioners ( i did both) and I did the water pump - total cost something under

Another Key Question!
Bigjeeze replied to jason.p's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Haven't got the torch key myself but if it's starting the engine it must have the chip in the mould of the fob, the battery doesen't affect the starting only the central locking, I have the plastic emergency key and that starts the engine but you cant see the chip. Guys - I have same key as Jason on my wife's mk1 - It has a chip embedded - you can neither see it nor remove it. The battery is for the light and nothing else!. As has been sdaid you just need to buy the same type of key and have the chip reprogrammed. Unfortunatley without another existing kewy this could be pricey but it shouldn't be anywhere near the -

Galaxy Rear Caliper Slider
Bigjeeze replied to Paul600's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had this happen on my mk2 a few years a go. You have to get a new carrier - As I recall it was a frod/vw part and not too expensive -
Hi Mirez I have the original locking wheelnuts with a male spline type key. It is getting steadily more and more knackered - Where can I get a key? You say that ir is a mcgard key but as mine is a 2001 I am not sure. I can get them off but don't want to go to the expense of buying a complete new set unless I really have to. Cheers BJ
