Remote Key Programming Again
Masked Marauder replied to JONESERIC's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Are you startig off with the alarm off and the door unlocked. You must hold the key in the unlock position for at least 1/2 a second each time too. -
A Reconected Maf Sensor?
Masked Marauder replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It is the first thing on the pipe after the air-filter box top, it has a multi-plug plugged in, you can't miss it. -
Aux Heater ?
Masked Marauder replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No, the Auxiliary heater can be time set and is an advanced version of the booster heater. -
Diagnostic connector at a guess.

On my previous car, a Rover 820 (with which I had very few problems) the first owner had the head gasket go at 25,000 miles and under 1 year old. Rover K series engines eat head gaskets for breakfast. A quality replacement (far better than those fitted at new build) is

Molybdenum (moly) grease.

The breach was between the cylinder and the coolant jacket then. There are only a few things that would cause that on a diesel, and a faulty gasket is the most likely cause, although a headbolt not stretched in properly because of oil under the shoulders could have the same effect.

It is basically a Haynes manual on a disk.

Makes me laugh the same old arguments, the only thing petrol engined users have as a "one up" on the diesel guys when it comes to costs it the servicing issue. They always forget how much more the petrol engined cars lose in value to the diesels over the same mileage/age. It is thousands.

The oil type quoted for both the 12 and 24 valve V6 engine is to comply with ACEA A3/B3 standards and many semi-synthetic oils surpass those standards.

Aux/booster Heater Glow Plus
Masked Marauder replied to Masked Marauder's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No, but was the same course thread and approximate length, although the top was not threaded. They are a helpfull bunch though, so if I take the old one out and down to them they will let me do a proper comparison. Just out of interest, what voltage is that Beru one? -
I have just been to buy four new glow-plugs for my TDi. The man behind the counter asked if I would recognise them as he had two types listed. I was shown two plugs, a long thin one (the one I need) and a short stubby one. At my insistence he researched the application for the short stubby one and it is for the "rear water radiator heater." So to surmise, this plug is a FAI made of-the-shelf jobbie and costs the princely sum of

Ah right! It could be the locks being effected by the cold. Is your central locking OK once the car is warmed up, or is the problem all the time?

Fist of all, check your passenger side footwell for damp, and check under the seat for water. If there is any then do a search for "flooded footwell"

This is the actual proceedure used by Ford: Remote Transmitter Programming Note: A maximum of four remote transmitters can be programmed to the generic electronic module (GEM). Programming must be carried out at the same time for all the remote transmitters. Note: Before attempting to enter programming mode, make sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged and that the anti-theft alarm system is not armed or triggered. Note: If the programming mode ends with no new remote transmitters programmed, remote transmitters originally programmed are retained by the GEM. Note: After the first remote transmitter has been successfully programmed all the previously stored remote transmitters will be erased. Note: The GEM will exit programming mode automatically if four remote transmitters have been programmed or if no new remote transmitter has been programmed within the 15 second programming mode. 1. Close all the vehicle doors. 2. Note: Make sure the door lock cylinder is held in the unlock position for more than 0.5 seconds. Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder and turn the key from the rest position to the unlock position three times within five seconds. 3. The door lock light emitting diodes (LED)s will illuminate for 15 seconds during the remote transmitter programming mode, allowing the remote transmitter to be programmed. 4. Remove the key from the driver door lock cylinder and aim the remote transmitter at the interior rear view mirror. 5. Press and hold the LOCK button on the remote transmitter. 6. While holding the LOCK button down, press the UNLOCK button three times on the remote transmitter. 7. Release both buttons simultaneously. 8. Make sure the door lock LEDs flash five times, confirming that the remote transmitter has been programmed. 9. After a remote transmitter has been successfully programmed, the GEM will reset the programming mode, allowing a further 15 seconds to program the next remote transmitter. 10. To program additional remote transmitters, repeat steps 4 to 8. 11. Make sure that all the doors lock and unlock, confirming that the GEM is no longer in programming mode. 12. Test all the programmed remote transmitters, by activating and deactivating the locking and unlocking functions.

Warning Msg - Alternator Workshop
Masked Marauder replied to MarkinLondon's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The alternator is easy to remove and can most likely be serviced by your local car parts shop, or used to get an exchange item. But first check for loose or broken wires and terminals etc. -
You may find there are two batteries in your remote, the second is under the first, they are seperated by a piece of plastic.

Programing Electric Windows
Masked Marauder replied to Masked Marauder's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Quite straight forward really, my 106k mile TDi engine's timing belt snapped under load at 60mph. I had only had the car a few months and had no service history as it was a repossession. I was going to do a major service, including belt, just as soon as the weather got better. On examining the belt it was well worn as the semi-circular teeth were worn flat on the tops, and the belt & rollers had a date coding that suggested it was the original belt and rollers had not been changed at 60k. So instead of an hour and a half changing the belt (because I was waiting for warmer weather) I ended up spend a very unpleasant few hours stripping the engine and a few more putting it back together again in the January weather.
