  1. There is no shortcuts, you have to run the diagnostic program, either at the dealers or using VAG-COM I will be getting VAG-COM in the near future, I have a couple of jobs that need doing. The price the dealers charge, I would advise anyone else to do the same, it would not be long before it has paid for it's self.
  2. Who told you the cigarette lighter was fuse 35? It should be fuse 7. If your car is pre 05/99 it should be 20A, post 05/99 25A
  3. Make sure all your induction pipework is tight with no splits.
  4. I know a windscreen fitter who will fit a new screen and not even charge the excess on my insurance, I wonder if he would oblige...
  5. I am now thingking about buying the USB version. I have a freind who can take delivery states-side so can use USPS to there ($10) and then shipped to me as a gift via their work's FedEx account, should save me about
  6. The auto re-lock feature is a requirement of the Thatcham Category 1 alarm standard.
  7. No, a record is a circular black piece of plastic with a hole in the middle and a spiral groove on each side  Don't look now, but your age is showing.....
  8. http://www.trueshopping.co.uk/product.php?...d+Back+Tool+Kit Buy it once, use it forever....
  9. The control temperatures for the aux heater are measured in the heat exchanger of the aux heater. It is a self-contained unit with its own control unit. It reports it's faults to the main ECU, that is all.
  10. Ah yes, but that is the engine temperature, the heater is at the rear of the car and the pipes that connect it are open to the elements. So the temperature in the heater could be less.
  11. Ah right, just had a look on VAG-COM's site and it looks as if it is all GUI now. So in the case of the Aux Heater you simply click on "Select control module" "18-Aux Heater" "Fault Codes-02" "Clear fault codes-05"
  12. I think you may have seen some white smoke from your Aux heater then. Was it cold outside and the engine not fully warmed up?
  13. How much smoke and which way was the wind coming from, the rear of the vehicle?
  14. It is probably just the glow-plug failed. They are easy to change (4 screws) and can be bought from a VW dealer. Ford say the units are not servicable, but show the exploded diagram of it on the TIS.....

  16. Probably won't
  17. Either a torch (does it have a little bulb?) or a remote for the alarm/central locking.
  18. I agree. Get it pinned Admin!!!
  19. There are a couple of control units under the front passenger seat, just make sure they are dry. If they are not in there (the recess with the carpet over the top) then they have been moved and should be OK.
  20. He means you have come onto the forums as a new user and asked for a radio code. It is frowned upon to give out a code to brand new users, both to help prevent theft of radios, and to stop the forums being clogged by people who have nothing to offer joining to simply ask for codes.
  21. is that an easy job? Yes, you just unclip the sensor from the wiper linkage at the passenger's side, unplug the teperature switch, wrap some copper wire round the pins on the switch and plug it back in.
  22. The cam belt interval on your engine is every 60k miles or six years, whichever comes first. So it is due in 10K miles. And yes, the engine does take some time to warm up. Five miles is about what mine takes and my booster heater has had the external temperature switch removed and the terminals bridged, so it works all the time until the engine is warmed up.
