  1. No, it can be unplugged and a resistor pack fitted to the plug, but it can not be turned off. VW/SEAT part number is 1H0 998 521 B and contains a resistor pack and a sticker. You disconnect the battery, wait 25 minutes, remove the glove-box, release the airbag multiplug and plug in the resistor pack. You then put it all back together, re-connect the battery and Bob's your uncle. You then apply the sticker saying it is disconnected.
  2. When a new plug and washer can be had for 80p why bother?
  3. The only single item on the switch is the range adjuster. The dimmer is integral to the switch.
  4. This is a strange subject indeed. Mine used to until I programed a remote fob to the car. Now it will not. But can I find any reference to restoring it anywhere? No.
  5. The oil for a PD engine is a special high-pressure withstanding one and costs about
  6. It is also on the second box down on the left on the VIN plate on the passenger front door pillar
  7. No, you don't To identify your engine you need to look for the first 3 letters of the engine code on the timing belt cover (it may preceed the engine number on the log book too) It should be something like ANU or ANY or ASZ
  8. I agree, I had not noticed this is a PD engine and now you have pointed it out then that certainly sounds the likely cause. And about the mileage of others having the same problems.
  9. It could well be the injector as they are fancy double spring jobbies and have five very fine injection holes to block up. First though you would have to find which one it is.....
  10. Could this be our old enemy, the MAF?
  11. The sump plug on the non-PD diesels is 30Nm and you should use a new copper washer. The TIS says for the PD engines "Install a new oil-drain plug washer, install the oil drain plug" No mention of a new plug.
  12. intake hose 7M0 819 315 A (VW & SEAT part number) Don't bother with Ford's they don't seem to sell the thing in parts, all of which are available.
  13. Or the new film element from GSF for
  14. Hang on - Surely if there is NO difference when unplugging the MAF, then that is the fault, as either wat the car is running on preset values... I thought that if you unplug it, and performance dies, it indicates that the MAF is fine... At least that's how mine is! Mike Yes, your quite correct, I mis-read that post!
  15. As an afterthought to all that, how does it start from warm or cold, is it hard to start? There is a known issue with the crankshaft pully slipping knocking the valve and pump timing out and if it is that then it is very serious.
  16. Then you need to check all the thin vaccum hoses, there is one on the back of the air-box and another connected to the pipe from the intercooler to the to the inlet manifold, from the vaccuum solenoid valve tot he turbo and loads of others in between! They are cloth coated and the rubber can perish. Also if you know anyone with VAG-COM you need them to check for engine fault codes as it could be the turbo has over-boosted and the ECU has shut it down.
  17. It is most likely the MAF that has failed. Do a search on the site, but the best test is to unplug it (it is the first thing after the air filter housing) and drive it and see if there is a difference. If there is, then it is the MAF. Replacement elements are avialable from German Swedish & French car parts and it is a five minute, two screw job to change it.
  18. It failed last night because your scuttle drains are most likely blocked. The rain then collects in the tray area under the wiper motor and gets in through the pollen filter flooding the passenger footwell. It was the volume of the rain last night.
  19. Yes, it is his standard postage rate. If you had added other items the postage would have stayed the same. I must ask what his VAT number is next time I buy something though.
  20. Yes, I used the tip of a ball point pen case. But you need to cut a slot into the top of the end too. And on a MK2 it is indeed the pipe on the left by the slam bar that you want.
  21. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=5150 A popular choice!
  22. 120 then. 130 is a basic one.
  23. Pfffft! What do they know?
