  1. Nah, it is driven by the back of the vee belt on the timing gear end of the engine, behind the aircon compressor and power steering pump.
  2. Ahh, well the new belt will be tighter and pulling the pump spindle to one side in the worn bushing causing seeping.
  3. But hell, what do I know.....
  4. My money is on your waterpump.
  5. If it runs badly with it connected it is because the computer running the engine (the ECU) does not know it is faulty. When you unplug the MAF the ECU knows it is not working. The ECU then switches to a fixed fuel mapping which is basically the same fueling and timing as a traditional diesel would be running. This then gives better performance than running with a faulty MAF. Clearly dynamic mapping is superior to this "fall back" mapping, which is why the MAF is there in the first place.
  6. The easiest way to check for warped disks is to lock the steering, jack the car up, take the wheel off and put a pencil resting on blocks of similar, just touching the disk. Carefully turn the disk by the drive shaft and watch to see if the pencil moves or a gap opens.
  7. The oil is PAG oil and if you are only changing a pipe there should be no need to add any. If the system is open for any length of time you will need to change the desiccant in the receiver/dryer and will need to add some oil in that case.
  8. mk1 is: 7M0 959 263 G Mk2 is: 7M0 959 263 G series resistor for vehicles with manually regulated air conditioner 1J0 907 521 blower control for vehicles with electronically regulated air condit. Check the part numbers with the dealer before you buy though!
  9. Just bringing my little tale up to date. Plus some curiosity over the fact that no-one else out there is admitting to having the same size tyres as mine fitted to their gal. I just find it hard to believe that nobody else has encountered the same difficulty. Thanks seatkid for the info on fitting an alternative tyre on the same rim. I can never quite manage to do the maths - so would 215/55 16 have the same overall diameter as 195/65 16? And would it involve changing all four corners at the same time? Thanks guys. The tyre wall is expressed as a percentage of the tread width. 60% of 195mm = (195/100)*60= 117mm 55% of 205mm = (205/100)*65= 112mm But how does it effect the rolling radius of the wheels is the main thing. A change to a 205 width and a 55% tyre wall will decrease your rolling radius by 8mm and when your speed is displayed as 70 mph you will actually be traveling at 69.43 mph You must have tyres of the same size and width on the same axle. So they would have to be changed in pairs.
  10. Not enough oil I suspect, have it topped up properly. When the guy did it, did he just put some in or did he fill it like it was empty?
  11. The fuel filter is in the engine compartment, to the right of and level with the top of the engine. To change it you remove the two pipes that are held on with hose clips and unclip the connector that is held on with the spring clamp. Unbolt the filter clamp and remove. To refit, reverse the above, but fit a new "O" ring under the connector that is held in place with the spring clamp.
  12. And that price seems a bit steep to me, even for a low mileage, unless it is mint & with a Ford warranty. Make sure it is a 110bhp engine, not the 90bhp. Are you buying from a main dealer?
  13. One of the other users of the board has carried out a repair to the resistor pack using 3rd party resistors, whilst it is still "work in progress" his input is on this thread
  14. No, it is just an open connector on the loom under some grey foam with an inline fuse holder.
  15. Your tyre place will have a tool to remove them with their air-gun.
  16. Blink? You must have fallen asleep old boy!
  17. On yours there should be a multiplug connector in the cubby hole in the back where the jack is stored IIRC. EDIT: I remember wrongly, it is the power socket side cubby hole!
  18. Aye they will, but he has ordered/bought the others!
  19. Does the Vaccum version of the cruise control not have an air-valve instead of a switch on the brake & clutch? I must go and look at the parts bible and see..... ...........nah, a switch by the look of it!
  20. Do you fancy explaing the resistor side in more detail?
  21. So it's not a PD engine then? Hmmmm....
  22. There is a thing, so has mine! Yes a service is due at every 10,000 miles or 12 months from the previous service. So when was it last done, do you know?
  23. It really is a two minute job checking the pipe. I would check it first.
