Lulu was a prostitute. One day there was a raid. All the prostitutes were lined up outside the police station as they took them in one by one. As Lulu stood in line, she saw her Grandma coming down the street and was so ashamed. Grandma didn't know her occupation. Grandma stopped to say hi, and asked what the line was for. Lulu, saving face, said that the police were giving away fresh oranges to those waiting. Grandma said wonderful, she loved oranges and got at the end of the line. When the policeman got to the end and saw her, he was amazed. He said "How the heck do you do this at your age?" She said "I just take out my teeth, rip the skin back and suck'em dry!" The policeman fainted.

Tailgate Cabling....argh! Rear Rubber Boot Fun!
katman replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
That was my thought as well. The wiring used in cars also seems to use copper which is not of the same quality as that used for normal flexible cable. When I used to run a mobile disco I used 7 core caravan cable for my lighting leads whereas all the mains leads and speaker cables were made from normal 2 or 3 core flex. In 20 years I NEVER had a mains lead or speaker cable fail but had numerous occasions where one or more of the cores inside a lighting cable would break INSIDE its insulation. The poorer grade copper probably explains why the cables running through the doors and tailgate suffer such a hight failure rate due to constant flexing whereas the rest of the cars wiring never moves. -
When I first found this forum a couple of years ago having just bought the Galaxy, the first thing I read about was Aircon problems. We went for a drive to Norwich with Sharon driving and me constantly checking the air coming out of the vents. It was cold but not "freezing" and car was comfortable but not "well chilled". When we arrived in Norwich and stepped out of the car, it was like that feeling you get stepping off the plane at Alicante airport. I then realised that the aircon was doing its job but that it was such a hot day (middle of august) and without it we would have been cooked. Being a hayfever sufferer I cant drive with the windows open :(

Oh well, "We all make mistakes", said the Dalek climbing off the dustbin :( Comment about the fuse rating is still valid though :D
-
DO NOT CHANGE THE FUSE TO 20 AMP !!!! The fuse is blowing because something is causing more than 15 amps to flow. This could be because something is drawing a bit too much eg 18 amps which would cause it to fail after a while or because a cable is damaged or trapped and shorting out causing a massive current to flow which then blows the fuse instantly. Changing the fuse to a higher value could easily result in a fire that will destroy the car as there is a danger that the higher fuse will allow the wiring to overheat and catch fire rather than blowing the fuse. What does the fuse feed ? If it is a lighting circuit, have more lights been added which may be overloading it slightly causing it to blow after a period of time. If it is for audio, has a big amplifier been fitted. Does it just blow at random even if whatever that circuit feeds is not in use ? Prime suspect has to be some damage in the area that you were working. Regards Keith

Well, I couldnt resist  :D Went to Norwich last week and picked one up in the Maplin shop. The wiring harness for my original twin screen Centruion DVD player has been successfully butchered and tomorrow the kids will be watching different DVD's so that should hopefully stop the arguments. SWMBO can put her iPOD on and leave me to listen to the radio in peace :D

The Veba DIN unit looks nice but if I was to leave a DVD player in the dash I know it wouldnt be there when I got back  I have one of the Centurion units (the display on mne is blue not green as in the Maplin photo) and it orks very well. We just sit it on the floor in the middle of the Galaxy then the kids can choose what they want. Mine came with two screens. It was about

Not really, as you increase speed so the effect of wind resistance increases and fuel economy starts to plummet. On the roads round here (we dont have motorways in East Anglia  ) you are often lucky to acheive the magical 56mph on the single carriageways. I used to travel from Great Yarmouth to Ipswich daily and the usual cruising speed was between 50-55mph on the bits with a 60 limit. I was getting a reliable 52-54mpg from my Pug 309 GLD. On the rare occasions when I was in other parts of the country and could do some faster driving, this would drop quite severely. I think 56mph is probably the magical figure at which fuel economy then starts to drop as wind resistance takes over.

All they can find out is which town you are in and that information is already in my profile. I dont see why you should be at any more risk from someone seeing a flag marking your town, that you are from someone who actually lives in your town. No matter how nice the place you live, there are always scumbags that will pose a risk to you, your car or your other belongings. Its just a sad reflection of the times we live in. Having said that, if you include in your additional information, the location of your spare keys, your alarm codes and the times when you are nowhere near your house then you might increase the risk

Isnt one of the "offical" fuel comsumption based on 56mph as this was decided to be the optimum speed for economy. I would expect that many vehicles were geared such that the engine was at its most efficient at this speed to give the best MPG figures.

and me :(

Oi !!!! Are you calling me common ????? Blue is a nice colour. Actually I would prefer mine to be a much stronger blue like the MG one mentioned or the Peugeot one that seems to be quite popular now. My late lamented Transit was Gentian Blue and my Mini was Sky Blue and before that my moped was Midnight Blue I like blue ;) Just been to buy a touch up paint for the wifes Lantra which is a metalic burgundy colour. Apparently the correct name is "Rio Tomato" <_<

This bit has me worried for you.... CLIMATE CONTROL / AIRCON (REQUIRES REGAS) Q: hi how do you know the air con only needs regassing, and its not the compressor packed up thanks A: becaues the garage the garage told me but hay at this price who cares if it is the compressornever seen one this cheep cheers kel I think that someone will care greatly if it is the compressor and if the seller is serious about this THIS CAR WILL ALSO COME WITH A 3 MONTH WARRANTY. ... then he wont be smiling very much but I would suspect his warranty to be VERY limited.

Thats the trouble with adverts, the ad agency gets so clever that you cant remember what the product was even if you remember the advert. Seems to defeat the point of the advert to me !!

Changing The Rear Driver-side Brake Bulb
katman replied to wardmw's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
Perhaps thats why its so difficult to change   No problem changing mine on a 97 GLX. Must be a Mk2 "improvement" -
We used to push droplets of Mercury around on the benches of the science lab We also used to throw pieces of concrete faced asbestos sheeting onto bonfires because it made a fantastic noise when it exploded. We used to put potatoes in the embers of the same bonfires to cook them. I'm surprised I'm still here !!!!! Worst that happened to me was that I broke my left arm twice falling off my bike. If that happened today I would be able to contact one of those nice people who advertise on TV because of the bloody great pothole that sent me and my bike in different directions. I missed Blue Peter because of that ;)
