  1. The handbook for the Mark 2 Galaxy Fails to list the location of the fuse for the instrument panel lights, so in the hope that it may save frustration for someone in the future I can tell you that it's on Fuse Number 28 for the number plate lights. Go and write it in your handbook now............. Now, why has just blown again ? have I got the dreaded cracking of the wires where the lead goes into the tailgate ?
  2. You can prevent the alarm from setting by pressing the lock button on the remote (or locking with key) twice in quick succession - confirm that the LED in the drivers door is not flashing. Also can be done by locking the drivers door from inside (by reaching from the rear door).
  3. Although the Link between the brakelights and the ECU is well documented regarding the Diesel, I've never heard it mentioned on the Petrol - does it really cause a problem ?
  4. If the connection has been playing up for some time then the Alternator cable will have been overheating as well and will now have a high resistance and be perpetuating the problem. To repeat my post above......since I've spent
  5. But LABLOVERhas a TDI ! On mine it's under the battery cover to the left of the wash bottle neck.
  6. Yes you're quite right, having looked at the fuse box again I can see the fuses are replacable. After the box was changed I found the new lid was starting to melt over the bolt for the alternator terminal. This was when the alt' cable was changed. He made up the replacement himself and charged
  7. Two thoughts, why is the Auto not offered on the 130/150? too much power for the box ? secondly GSM suffered major transmission problems - may not be related to his 143 BHP chip but you have to wonder.
  8. Snap ! (literally) same as I had, but at least it's only
  9. The switch at the top of the pedal is the usual suspect. Do a search, it been covered many times.
  10. On MK2s they are optional, in a package with the Xenon headlights.
  11. Not exactly.............to quote from an earlier thread, " Also I have learned that very similar engines were built into the Scorpio, with engine code NSD, and the Transit with engine codes NSF and NSG. (my gal
  12. Ours shows similar behaviour, it will cover 300 miles and still show half full but then it will drop like a stone and after another hundred miles the light will be on. It's particularly bad for doing this if you haven't stopped since your last fill up.
  13. Aren't run flat tyres available again ? (let's not forget the old Dunlop Denovos!). That would solve your problems - as long as you could find a Garage within 50 miles or whatever the run flat limit is.
  14. The only way I could see of doing the would be to mount the spare on a sideways swinging frame anchored above and below the rear light in the manner of a Vauxhall Frontera. I seriously doubt the bodywork would be strong enough to take it though. Another alternative is a downward swinging frame mounted under the bumper as on some Merc MLs, trouble with that is climbing over it to get in the boot! This problem is one of my main objections to an LPG conversion, but as a final thought, is a space saver spare available to fit the Galaxy stud patten ? it would at least take up less room in boot.
  15. Hi Katman, I think you've now knocked me off my perch as resisdent obsessive keeper of fuel consumption data. I have a similar spreadsheet but mine includes a cumulative fuel spend figure which becomes fairly frightening to look at. Regarding summer and winter fuel consumption, I reckon most of the time the A/C makes only a small increase - less than 5%. We ended up doing a couple of long journeys this summer though when the temperature was up to 30C and I reckon it used more than 10% extra. Spring and Autumn are probably the best for Fuel consumption, especially if it's mild and wet. In the winter I think the temperature has more to do with increase than anything. I've been commuting in the Galaxy over the last few days when we've had temperatres down to -5 and I've noticed a certain point in the journey where the computer normally shows 30 Mpg on a mild day was only 27Mpg when it was freezing. Handy hint for petrol owners, turn the rear heater off when the engines cold - it draws a lot warmth from the engine, you can see this by switching it on with the engine at normal temp and watch temperature gauge plummet. I've wondered about insulating the feed pipes to the rear heater unit has anyone done this ?
  16. That would be nice...............unless you wanted some money for it? Having said that large chunks of my A/C system are only just over a year old, so it might be that it proves a better bet in the long term than a 3 yr old A/C system in a 3year old Gal'. When I was talking to (alright, moaning at) the A/c specialist about the quality of Galaxy components he suggested that the condensor now fitted was an improved design - only time will tell.
  17. Good stuff! The AA used to offer a similar site called Petrolbusters, which sadly was discontinued a while ago.
  18. Your right in thinking it's not the joint in the washer pipe, as that's at floor level. For a better look the glove box comes out very easily, you just need my 3 year old sons foot. If you don't have one of those I think there are a couple of clips at the top back coners revealed when the box is open.
  19. Taxisteve, is your x reg' a mark 1 or 2 ? looking at the Handbook for my mk2 it says "Relay 30" - not used ! If it's a mark 1 do you know what function relay 30 controls? I'd like to see if has an equivalent on the Mark 2 so I can replace it before it lets me down.
  20. Perhaps you need to give it a bit longer to let you down - another year maybe ?
  21. Questions for Allenjens: How did you get 180BHP out of a 2.3, a re-chip? How does Galaxy air conditioning cope with the heat and humidity in Singapore? even after repair ours seems to have to work flat-out to cope with the odd 30C day we have in the UK. How about introducing yourself in new members and telling us a bit more?
  22. I also have a pump that is on it's way out, same symptoms - it's gone from a quiet zizzing noise to a chonka-chonka-chonka noise. Question for the experts -what is this pump required for ? is it primarily to look after the Turbo unit on Diesels ?
  23. Along with a few other people, my A/c problems were linked to a leaking condensor. The A/c specialist I used said they'd changed a few and suggested there was a problem with substandard condensors on early Mk2 Galaxys that typically came to light after 3 or 4 years.
  24. Have seen this thread ?
  25. I wouldn't swear to this, but I think I recall some early MK2 90bhp were not PD engines. Alternatively has it had a second hand engine fitted at some time ?
