  1. I assume you checked the level with the vehicle standing on flatish ground and with a cold engine. If you did and it is still above give the dealer a b*ll*cking and get him to drain the excess at once. Is there advice in your handbook on overfilling? I believe TD engines are particularly prone to damage from this. I would also be an idea to complain to the dealer in writing, in case of future problems.
  2. I forgot to add that you should never try to dissengage the cruise without using the clutch, as there is a warning in the handbook advising that this could result in overspeeding the engine and consequent damage. It does seem odd that the clutch pedal is not fitted with cut-off switch, "Ford gives you less" once again ?
  3. The Cruise control on our 2.3 has shown all of these symptoms, and also rockets away to way beyond the previously set speed. Furthermore it seems very slow (30 Seconds) to switch off, either by braking or on the column switch. I have only used it once, on an early morning motorway drive, and thought the problem was my lack of familiriaty with it, having opnly briefly read the instructions when we got the car. Is this a problem confined to 2.3s ?
  4. Try this link as they have top brands of reinforced tyres at well under
  5. I use an Ikea Crate (99p) secured with a bungy cord that I found lying on the floor at the tip. Efficient and economical !
  6. We've had our 2.3 for two months and are very pleased with it, the engine is responsive and pretty smooth for a big four cylinder (does it have a balancer shaft ?). Having had a diesel Citroen Xantia for four years I was a convert, but this 2.3 was such a good deal I was swayed back. I don't miss the turbo-lag and narrow rev band of a diesel, which can make overtaking difficult, nor the smell and rattle in the moring. A recent trip to cornwall leaving at 4am gave 33.5mpg according to the computer while averaging 70mph over 365 miles. Our overall avarage is 30.45mpg (checked manually) over 3000 miles, but we live in the country and I doubt many 2.3s do as well as this. As Ivor says check all electrics and especially the Aircon to ensure it works. A couple of other factors in the Petrol/Diesel cost benefit analysis; The Diesel is one insurance group higher than a Petrol. My diesel needed glow-pulgs at four years old at a cost of nearly
  7. The Guard in the Galaxy Brochure fits floor to ceiling behind the second row of seats, and has a floor to ceiling divivider attached to it at 90 Degrees. This allows the Dog to have part of the boot and luggage to piled up in the rest. The obvious disadvantage is that you can only use 5 seats. Our solution was to buy a free standing dog cage and remove just one of the rear seats. IIRC the Ford Dog Guard is
  8. You should check with your insurance company. By deviating from the original specification they may consider that you have modified your vehicle, and charge you a higher premium. If it was to be discovered after an accident they may decline to pay out (in the unlikely event that they noticed)
  9. Just done the same thing myself and I didn't bother deflating the tyres, even though I carry a small compressor. The only noticeable differance was a lot of road noise when driving unladen.
  10. I've just been quoted
  11. I've just bought a 3 year old Galaxy 2.3 Ghia privately for
  12. Both rows of rear seats (which are interchangeable) slide about six inches fore and aft.
