You're looking at the effect rather than the cause - blocked scuttle drains allow a pool of water to build up on the scuttle, which tries to escape any way it can. If the filter is incorrectly fitted it will pour in, if properly fitted it will still get in, just not as fast . If you pour some water on the bottom of each corner of the windscreen it should pour out from behind the front wheels within a second or two, if it only trickles out or nothing comes out you have a problem and you need to unblock the scuttle drains. Do a search it's been covered many times.

I have had mk11 wheels on may Mk1 for nearly two years never had a problem, cover 25K without a hitch. Is there surpose to be a problem ? I've not heard of a problem with putting M11 wheels on a MK1, but there is a problem putting Mk1 15" wheels on Mk11s because of the larger brake discs fitted, (although it doesn't apply to the first year or so of MK11 production -those with solid headrests- as they still had Mk1 spec brakes).
-
It's an offence not have them fitted even in daylight, that said I reckon about 50% of Brits don't bother with them (compared to 99% of foreign cars in the UK) so maybe the threat of prosecution is exaggerated (probably by those flogging beam deflectors).

If they are bitches yes, but you'd be amazed what a dog can do if he gets a sniff of bitch on heat outside the car. Our Arthritic 14 year old Collie (who had to be lifted into the boot) managed to scramble over them and out through the drivers door when he thought he was on the sniff of a promise!

Early night and early start then, thanks for your advice and suggestions.

I'm from North Lancashire, so it's down the M6 to Brum and then ?????? If the M25 is going to be that bad I can start as early as is necessary, I admit to being naive in the workings of our great Metropolis - I get a nosebeed when I go south of Stoke !
-
Going to France shortly and I hope that some of you who use the M25 regularly can advise me which is the best (or least worst) way around. I am heading for the M2 and Eurotunnel, I can either come down the M1 and then clockwise, or M40 and Anticlockwise (which is slightly further). I would be hitting the M25 at 6.30-7.00 am on a weekday. Which way is likely to be the least congested ?

Towing With A 2.3 Petrol
Andrew T replied to mikej's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Slightly off Topic, but I towed a Friends broken down Discovery for a couple of miles recently, must be 2 tonnes at least and was amazed at how well the 2.3 coped. I understand Land Rover called it the Discovery because you Discover a new fault every day. -
Nope it's a VAG 2 button jobby.
-
There was a thread a few months ago about this, IIRC someone was looking at getting together a bulk order of replacement faces from this website. Be aware though that MK2 Petrol and Diesel have differant speedo calibrations (Petrol 160Mph Diesel 140Mph) is the MK1 the same?

No! It needs a Sliver Calcium type to go with the Smart Charging System fitted to the Galaxy after 98(?). It is not compatible with a conventional lead/Acid battery. Your handbook has a warning to this effect.

Converting your V6 to LPG might be a more realistic proposition.

No, I believe fault codes are then stored until they are reset, regardless of the Engine fault light being on or off at the time.

Engine Cut Out, Wont Start Will Start!
Andrew T replied to FamilyWagon's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Relay 27 will be listed in your handbook, take it out and drop from about 12 inches onto a hard suface and that should unstick it. No idea about the Hall effect sender - it was a suggestion that member El Dingo made, you could try PM ing him. -
Engine Cut Out, Wont Start Will Start!
Andrew T replied to FamilyWagon's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
There have occasional reports of similar problems on 2.3 that have never reached any conclusion. None starting combined with a flashing LED is an immobilisation fault (it disconnects the starter) but would not cause the cutting out (unless the immobiliser also disconnects the fuel pump). On Mk1s relay 30 (K108 power relay) failing is a common fault, I'm told on the MK2 this function is covered by relay 27. Also mentioned was an "intermittant Hall effect sender". -

When you say "nothing happened" do you mean the dash lights came on but the starter wouldn't turn ? By the "transmission light" do you mean the Orange engine fault warning light ? Have you noticed if the LED on the drivers door flashes rapidly when the engine won't turn ? -
I've had occasional problems with flat batteries but have never had any beeping, is yours a mark 1 or 2 Galaxy ? Note that your battery should be of the Silver Calcium type compatable with the Smart Charging Sysytem fitted to later Galaxy models. They are not much expensive than Lead batteries, mine was

I put a few tie-wraps on the corners of the cage and that quelled the rattles. If you need six seats plus the Dog, remove the drivers side rearmost seat as it gives you a critical couple of inches extra space and there is a cage (available from "Pet wolrd" for instance) that exactly fits the gap and gives you enough room for a large Collie or Lab. Another advantage of a crate is it prevents the Dog jumping out and you can load light luggage on top of it. The Ford system is a floor to ceiling divider behind the rear seats, plus a lateral divider for the luggage compartment limiting you to five seats. Cost

Car 'reliability Index' Web Site
Andrew T replied to jkspoff's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
There have been mutterings on here of sub-standard condensors which suffered cracking of the output pipe being fitted to MK2 models, and that was certainly part of the problems I suffered. -

Resetting The Service Warning
Andrew T replied to golfmadman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I've always believed you had to open and close the bonnet as part of the reset, did it work without ? -

If you're using a dog cage at home take it with you when you camp, he'll settle better sleeping in familiar surroundings.

Air Conditioning?
Andrew T replied to broom broom's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It's unique to the 2.3, and I seem to recall works on a differant principle to the VW ones (constant displacement versus variable displacement ?). Deep in the bowels of this forum I recall some discussion on replacing just the comp' clutch, have a search.
