Luggage Comnpartment Open Alert On Dashboard

What would happen if the wire to the tailgate handle were to break where the loom passes through the boot from the body to the tailgate ? Is it possible to take the trim panel off from the inside while the tailgate is locked shut ? I had a taste of this problem when camping the other week, after loading the car up finishing with stuffing a large wet tent on top of everything I went to start the car and found the Battery was flat. In it's death throws the tailgate decided to lock itself shut. I then realised that the the jump leads were inaccessable in the comparment under the rear lamp. The only way to get them was to climb through from the back seat and fight my way over the wet tent and down the back of the boot and drag the the jump leads out. At least my antics amused the kids. -
When the temp gauge shows it be overheating, feel the radiator and check it's equally hot all over.

Has anyone else noticed this? I go to view new posts and find a thread that hasn't been added to for several days has appeared. It's just happened with the "Rate Yours" thread, last post by M4 on the 5th of August. Is it because someone has performed an edit on the thread ? It's only happened since the last overhaul of the site.

The 1.9 VAG Diesel has been used in every range of cars made by VW, Seat, Skoda and Audi for the last ten years. If this Garage doesn't recognise the Engine from the shape of the block it must call their competence into question.

A blocked air filter would happen slowly, not suddenly. Unless it's never been changed I think it's unlikely to be the culprit, but it woudn't take five minutes to have a look at it. In terms of the spot readings that you're getting, it could be simply that you were heading into a strong headwind at the time and maybe going slightly uphill . Is it windy where you live today? As MM said, the only way to check your consumption accurately is to do a manual check.

The Government fuel figures are best used as a rough guide to comparing different cars than as an indication of what a car will achieve in your hands. By this I mean that if you buy the car with a Gov't combined MPG of 40 compared to one with an MPG of 30 that car should deliver about 33% better fuel Consumption in you hands. In reality the one that should deliver 40MPG may only give you 33MPG, but had you bought the one with a figure of 30 it will only give you 25MPG. Fuel consumption test are performed in a laboratory and cannot account for the effects of wind resistance. The Galaxy must have one of the biggest frontal areas of any car tested. If you were to take the Galaxy and another car with a lower build, but which returned the same Extra Urban fuel figures and cruised them side by side on a Motorway you would surely find the lower built car was actually returning higher figures than the Galaxy. Other factors like tyre pressures, accessories in use, windows open, roof racks fitted, quality of servicing, mileage covered by the engine, hills and head or tail winds and most of all driving style will all have an effect on MPG returned. Lastly do manufactures build cars to produce good test figures rather than to deliver good real world MPG? I've driven a well above average mileage at my own expense for the past 20 years, so I've learned how to drive economically. I get 32MPG overall from a 2.3 Petrol, but only with the gentlest of driving can I match the Gov't Extra Urban figure for the 2.3 of 36.7MPG. To conclude; only use the official figures to choose your car, don't expect to achieve them.

OK, if you exclude Petrols there is no choice on the MK2 in the UK with a Diesel Auto - it

Help For My Gal Please
Andrew T replied to latrine's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Overfilling by garages often occurs when they chuck a whole 5 litre can in without checking on the sump capacity. when they did in mine (2.3) that extra half litre caused the mark on the dipstick to be about 2 cm above full. I would have thought if the oil was only a mm or two over normal it would not cause the problems you are getting. -

Take some evening primrose oil and you will feel much better with that PMS!! ;) I'll take a couple of a couple of Pints of Marstons Pedigree if it's all the same to you - I find it cures most of lifes little ills (and especially constipation).l -

I Shouldn't have owned up should I ??? Although what I originally wrote was "half an hour" not "at least half an hour". This could be because A, I was feeling generous. B, I am feeling mean today. C, I have PMS. -

Five minutes is often enough, you can tell if it's worked if you look at the warning lights as you start it up for the first time after reboot, warning lights will appear for equipment your car is not fitted with (eg traction control) and then extinguish never to be seen again. -
According to the Brochure if you have the Journey Pack (Sat Nav and Multimedia Player) a dealer fit rear mounted Autochanger is available.

Not Really A New One,more Of An Update

2000 was the changeover form the MK1 to the MK2 when the appearance of the panel in which the wipers are mounted changed. It could well be that the length of the motor spindle changed at this point. -

A 1996 Petrol four cylinder petrol could only be a 2.0. The MAF is a different type to that used on the Diesel and I recall a thread on here suggesting that it's possible to clean it. I a MAF for a 2.3 is about

I think the modified design has been around for some time. My handbook shows the retainer featured above, i.e the the metal "T" shape, but the one on the car is a nylon cone with a ring that slides down to engage with a flange round the bottom edge. It may have been fitted to the car under warranty I suppose, but it didn't look new when I stripped it down a couple of years ago. Now when are they going to improve the design of the rest of it?

Tyre Pressure Sticker

Maybe this only applies to MK1s ? My Mark2 has a list of sizes and pressures inside the filler cap which is replicated in the hadbook. There's nothing on the door pillar. -
Battery, Which One ?

It's ironic then, that such a wonderful technology provided me with the shortest lived battery I've ever had. -
I used confused .com and found that their quotes were actually higher than going to the actual website they got the quote from. Good tip! I was just about to renew using confused, and found I can save another tenner by going direct to the company. I owe you a pint ! Confused quite rightly get a comission off the companies they send business to, which I suspect is

Tyre Pressure Sticker
Andrew T replied to sanjsanj's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
This is my post from a couple of years ago on a similar theme. Since that thread another thought has occured to me; when I was wandering around a tyre fitters waiting for my brakes to be done, I noticed that there seemed to be variation in the height of identically sized tyres. The new tyres were stored vertically on two rails and some sat higher than others by a centimetre or more, so it would seem that actual tyre size against a specified size is fairly nominal. -
Perhaps the car has been reshelled ?

Help ! Coolant Dumped All Over
Andrew T replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
With the engine getting as hot as it is with the current weather it should clear fairly quickly, if the heater uses a water valve to control it , and the heat was off when they refilled it with coolant it would prevent the heater matrix from filling properly. At least that was the way in the old days, it's probably all differant with climate control. A good thrash up a steep hill (do you know Sutton Bank ?) on hot day with the heater on fulll should sort it out, although your family may not appreciate it ! I must say that you've had more success with your warranty than I have had with them. When I tried to claim for a broken timing belt tensioner, the component itself was less than the minimum claim limit and the rest of the damage was consequential loss and not covered !
