Battery Not Holding It's Charge
jkspoff replied to greg_68's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Get a massive (with spare energy) Numax battery, I bought one that fills the whole of the battery space ! It looks like enough to power a small town, but it has more than enough energy in it to cope with the coldest of mornings and lots of abuse. Guaranteed for 3 years too. The Numax car battery came out as the best budget car battery in AutoExpress magazines 29th October - 4th November 2003 edition. You're better off getting one thats got a larger capacity than actually required. The Numax are the conventional type and the Vartas are the Calcium type, both are ok for the Galaxy, providing they have a high enough Ah. Premium Car Battery Voltage - 12V Capacity - 88Ah CCA(SAE) - 750A Dimensions(mm) 354 x 175 x 190 3 years guarantee Original equipment specification Increased capacity for higher cold start performance Maintenance Free Quality assured ISO 9002 accredited Recommended for petrol, diesel and LPG powered cars and light commercial vehicles -
How the hell am I supposed to know not to put the iron back in the cupboard whilst its still got water in it ! Wives, you can't live with em and you can't live without em................. and, whilst on the subject, I must have cleared out half a bin bag of rubbish from the wifes scenic today, from old banana skins to crisp packets. Some just don't understand why cars need cleaning !

On a recent trip to Portugal I was chatting to my usual airport transfer driver about his VW Sharan, it was a 2001 model and had covered 280,000km, and the only thing he had ever replaced was the usual wear and tear items. He had no trouble at all with the A/C system surprisingly. I wonder if this is because its used almost every day of the year, or if its due to the dryer climate not rotting the components ? There are a fleet of these Galaxys and Sharans in the company he works for, all of which have had no problems with A/C as far as he is aware. The heater booster I wouldn't have thought was switched on often, maybe occasionally through January when the nights get cold. I did a bit of reseach into the Air Con systems on these foreign spec vehicles, and they are fitted with exactly the same size condensor and other A/C equipment as the UK spec vehicles. I wonder if their maintenance schedule includes A/C servicing every 10k. :) It would appear that the best country to use these Gals/Sharans etc are scorchio ones !

A beauty. Let us know if you ever plan selling it ! Puts my dirty work horse to shame

Have a very close look at the small print of your warranty, some cover regasses if the loss of gas is a result of a failed component, i.e. leaking condensor or evaporator etc etc, providing your car has had its regular service intervals.

I Think Mines Missing Something ?
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
I have the engine tray fitted, made sure of that, I will phone Ford tomorrow and find out how much it'll rob me for the engine cover, if its a lot then it will stay without like the last 3 years. -
I Think Mines Missing Something ?
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Thanks mumof4, a pic would be good to compare with what I'm missing on my naked engine ! Anyone any idea how much they cost and how they fit on ? -
I have noticed that a few people on here have mentioned that they have engine covers on their Tdi Mk2 Galaxys, but mine has never had any type of engine cover. It is just an exposed engine when you lift the bonnet up, with all the dirty technical bits on show. Should mine have a cover over it ? Whats the cover for ? Is it just asthetic ?

Strong little car, surviving that type of accident. Luckily with the Euro NCAP to help protect the consumer these days, lives are that bit safer. Glad you are all OK, has it made you a slower driver ? or were you always a safe driver ? Do you have to declare to you insurance company when renewing or does it not count as it was on the hire car companies insurance and you are not claiming ?

Mk2 Front Bumper And Front Panel Removal
jkspoff replied to bus_boy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mine had a new condensor and radiator fitted, with removal of most A/C pipes without the need to remove the front bumper at all, it was done by just removing the grill area. I'm not sure how they did it, but I just know it can be done. I believe it can be manoevered through the engine bay from above down, and the pipes replaced from below, with tray removed. -
Hi, welcome to the forum, as mentioned previously the majority of Galaxy/Sharan owners have had expensive air conditioning failures, usually resulting from broken compressors, leaking condensors, leaking pipes etc, but is always fixable, I recommend that you purchase an after market warranty for around

Anyone Ordered A New Gal Yet ?

What a great guy, brought great entertainment and a real understanding of nature to many. However I have kids and would not have taken the risks that he took in his life, knowing that he had dependants. Your priorities in life change dramatically as most of us know. One step too close to nature. He will be sadly missed by many.
