I find the Gals performance to be staggering compared to what it was, but it can be driven exactly as before, the accelerator is not twitchy, however if you are a bit too heavy on the pedal the turbo does come in earlier. The fuel economy is about the same on normal driving, but as I mentioned above you can make a large dent in the fuel economy by booting it everywhere which is tempting to start with, until the novelty wears off ! After a few days of driving it, you find that slightly less pressure on the pedal can make the car perform and drive exactly as before the remap with no effort. I got a moderate rather than extreme remap, to make it easier and cheaper to live with on a daily basis. The same remap I have is now stored on the guys laptop, so if you decided you wanted the same version then it could be loaded and adapted to your ECU also.

Vag Com Strange Message
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No, he didn't do a screen dump, but I wish now I'd asked him to, as it was an interesting message that he and I had never seen before. -
Whilst my Galaxy was being remapped the guy ran VAG com before and after to ensure everything was ok, it showed up several fault codes which I was aware of, the usual stuff, like air circulation flap etc, but one was very unusual, it was from a while ago by the look of it, that said 'flame extinguished' ! <_< , whats that all about, it sounds a bit bizarre, anyone any idea, or anyone with VAG com shed any light on it ??

Pros and cons of different batteries as found on web, I knew nothing about batteries until today ! Varieties of Lead Acid Batteries Lead Calcium Batteries Lead acid batteries with electrodes modified by the addition of Calcium providing the following advantages: More resistant to corrosion, overcharging, gassing, water usage, and self-discharge, all of which shorten battery life. Larger electrolyte reserve area above the plates. Higher Cold Cranking Amp ratings. Little or No maintenance. Lead Antimony Batteries Lead acid batteries with electrodes modified by the addition of Antimony providing the following advantages: Improved mechanical strength of electrodes - important for EV and deep discharge applications Reduced internal heat and water loss. Longer service life than Calcium batteries. Easier to recharge when completely discharged. Lower cost. Lead Antimony batteries have a higher self discharge rate of 2% to 10% per week compared with the 1% to 5% per month for Lead Calcium batteries.

Yes, they appear to be the more recent technology choice. By the looks of it they can be smaller with same output as the larger lead/acid ones, but the older technology lead/acid large capacity ones are apparently very robust to extreme useage with the same guarantee as the newer type. I don't think it really matters from reading up on them which one you get, as long as its got a decent capacity for the job in hand.
-
Whats the difference between a lead acid and a lead/calcium, as it appears either of them can be used. Does the lead/calcium just have a longer shelf life prior to use and can be smaller and lighter.

Just checked a web site regarding battery replacements, and the Numax is a recommended replacement battery for the Galaxy, so for future reference for anyone else interested in getting a replacement, the above battery is about

I can't see a 'Ca' on it, but I was reading the web site www.manbat.co.uk that stock them and it appears that they are mostly the same, but little info about the specifications. I wonder what the difference Calcium would make ?

Battery dead, and needs a new one as its not holding charge at all, but alternator etc working fine, so been and got a new one, however there are so many to choose from, so I opted for a large 88Ah Numax 017 one. Its got a 4 year guarantee and looks like it would generate enough power for a small village, the thought behind it was long life and easy cold starting, plus long charge hold for long airport car park stays. Shopped around and prices ranged from

Try out www.chipboost.com or www.angeltuning.com for remapping. I used the first link.

What Does Key Immobiliser Chip Look Like?
jkspoff replied to MattyD's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I lost my chip from the Galaxy key in Scotland whilst on holiday, one of the kids dismantled it and either swallowed it or just lost it ! I was stranded for 2 days whilst the spare key was sent up by relatives with courier. The chip is very very small, you will need 2 spare keys to program the replacment key to the immobiliser. You can buy the key fob on its own with a new chip complete, like this one off ebay, then reprogram it, obviously changing the key section from your other key. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FOR-GALAXY-SEAT-ALHA...1QQcmdZViewItem -
WOW ! Get it done, its got so much more torque in every gear, low down pulling power and loads more pull throughout the rev range. Guy came to me in the end and removed ECU, flashing it with the new software. The difference is greater than I ever imagined, it must have knocked seconds off the 0-60 time. It is now around the 150bhp (115bhp before) mark, drive it steady and by having the low down power it will return about the same MPG, drive it hard and you will notice a difference in MPG, after all you don't get something for nothing ! I would definately recommend it though, just coming up hills on the way home it was in a lower gear than before. It puts the power to the ground perfect, with no wheel spin, it can be pushed further but its not recommended, after all they do a 150bhp Galaxy now. A happy customer. All for

Mk2 115pd Cv Joint Replacement - How Much?
jkspoff replied to iainkirk's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
It all sounds very odd to me, mine had CV joints replaced and took dealer 2 days with no removal of engine, (exactly same car as yours). Unless as you mention there was something untoward going on under the bonnet. Good job its still covered by warranty as it all sounds very expensive, good luck and let us know how you get on. I too have no confidence in main dealers at all. -

Yes, happy with warranty company, as long as you get the work carried out at an approved repairer they can be billed direct. The warranty has paid for itself many times over this year and I have just checked out the renewal price, its -

There was no direct evidence of damage to the radiator from the condensor change over, the leakage was coming from the radiator though, which did seem like a strange coincidence, if I had been paying for it all I would have gone down this avenue of complaint with the garage, but it needed changing and the warranty covered it, so to make life easy I just paid a small amount and got the job done quicker, as my free car hire from the AA had also expired. I'll keep an eye on the levels, top up if necessary, but there is definately no sign of leakage, I suspect as you say it may be an airlock, will this clear over time ? -

Do you recon its normal to have to top up the coolant bottle after new radiator fitted, it holds the water to the minimum level but has needed topping to the max mark twice now since radiator fitted 2 days ago? I was wondering if the water may need to get around the system before it settles down. -

No, looks like he's using the same picture though, its very cheap if it goes for anything near the 'reserve not met' figure, as its 2005 model, with 12k on clock, top spec too. I'll be keeping mine now its all working ! Having it remapped on Friday hopefully. -

Help ! Coolant Dumped All Over
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Now I'm scared ! As original post Gal has had new condensor fitted and A/C working perfectly, garage is now replacing leaking radiator which is dangerously close to the new condensor and pipes, they phoned today to say they were struggling with the new radiator fitting, arhhhhhhhhhh, what if they then damage the A/C they fixed 2 weeks ago ! I feel like I'm going to be going around in circles. I will thoroughly check the Gal over before paying and make sure all is OK, including A/C and radiator. Why do I not have any confidence in garages ? They have now had the Gal since Saturday when it originally broke down. -

Has anyone ever replaced a radiator on the mk2 Galaxy, if yes do you know if the condensor has to be removed as well ?? -
Help ! Coolant Dumped All Over
jkspoff replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The condensor was originally replaced because of a leak, I am now wondering if the radiator was damaged at the same time, but delayed leakage...........is it possible that the radiator can be replaced without removing the now perfectly working A/C condensor ? Does the radiator corrode over time, and if the radiator had been damaged at the time of the replacement condensor surely it wouldn't have lasted 3 weeks before leaking ? But it does seem a strange coincidence ! -_- -

My thoughts exactly, although I will shock them when I tell them an insurance assessor is coming out to check the damage, as I've just been in touch with them, and the damage is covered on my insurance policy with protected no claims ! So if they're covering up anything it may show up on the assessment. -

Ok, the garage are now saying that it looks like a stone has come up and hit the radiator, or gone thorugh the fan and hit the radiator, causing damage to it, therefore large leak, does anyone have any idea how much it will cost for a new radiator fitting ? and whether or not you think I'll be able to claim on my car insurance as accident damage ?
