  1. Philips x-treme bulbs are very highly rated amongst Galaxy owners.
  2. According to the MK1 handbook, the headlights for both main and dipped beams use the H4 bulb, you could try changing the bulbs but it is very strange that both sides are not working.
  3. Very scarry and dangerous - so what caused this then?
  4. Wackojacko, Plainly the vehicle you have recently bought from the dealer is dodged with problems, take gregers advice and consult the relevant bodies first and stop worrying about travelling 125 miles to rectify the faults considering you have spent thousands on a vehicle that does not clearly fit the label "of satisfactory quality". However, before you proceed, note down all faults and have all relevant documents prepared - do not take the vehicle to another mechanic before letting the dealer to fix the faults first as no doubt he will use this against you. I have found some information for you on the internet with a telephone number, so phone the number up and see what they have to say. "The Law When you buy goods from a trader, you enter into a legally binding contract governed by the Sale of Goods Act 1979, as amended by the Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002. The law gives buyer and seller rights and responsibilities and applies to the sale of used cars in the same way as to other goods. When you buy from a trader, you have the right to expect the car to be: of satisfactory quality; fit for its purpose, including any particular purpose made known, and as described. The law defines goods as being of
  5. Totally agree with you Mirez. I along with yourself were looking and discussing here (with jkspoff) about the original seller on ebay selling the kits. In his original listing he did state that the kit will need to be professionally fitted. However, i haven't seen the original seller back on ebay for a while now.
  6. The repair will not last, get the offending pipe replaced.
  7. Doesn't really matter as long as one pad as a wire which will be connected at the N/S/F wheel. You can cut of the other wire off as it's not needed. Out of curiosity, did you measure your existing discs. Also, the wire will visible if you turn the wheel.
  8. Any competent mechanic (NOT MAIN DEALER) can replace a water pump in about 2 hours. So i would estimate the cost being around the
  9. Try this thread.
  10. gregers - that's twice now within 5 minutes you have beaten me in posting. I give up!
  11. eBay, around
  12. Also check to see if the radiator is hot at the top and bottom - if not, the blockage is suspect.
  13. You beat me to it with the answer - bugger!
  14. IIRC, MK2 Galaxy keys are operated using the frequency - SEIMENS 433.92MHz 5WK4 790/97/98 These numbers are very, very important because even though the Sharan and Alhambra keys are identical, the frequency they operate are different. In other words, totally useless for the Galaxy. If buying from the internet, then confirm with the seller what the frequency is. Once you have the correct key fob, the blade must be of the 'HAA' variety (embossed on the blade). However, since you only have the non key-fob key, you will need these reprogrammed either by the dealer (very expensive, as you already know) or a locksmith which specializes in vehicle key-fob programming. P.S gregers, how did you manage to read the small print on the key - i had to get my mrs and the two of us standing on chair to get close to the light on the ceiling!
  15. I assume that the impeller was whole and not shattered leaving debris in the system or you could have an airlock in the coolant system. It has been known that the system does take a while to settle after a coolant change.
  16. Ahh, oil extractor! Read this recent interesting debate regarding oil extractors. P.S. If you do go down this route, then there is a eBay seller by the name of 'a1plantsales' that sells the 'silverline' brand which extracts 4ltrs at a time for
  17. :D :) :o
  18. Read this interesting link regarding tyres. According to the handbook for MK1's, there is no mention of extra load/reinforced tyres for the OP's car - and after reading the afore mentioned link, i am tending to lean in favour of 'sparky Paul' comments.
  19. A couple of questions then.................... 1. What do i need to do to get it on the road and how much do you think the road tax will be? 2. What sort of mpg? 3. Is it chain driven or timing belt? 4. Re above, what is the frequency of its change? 5. Can it be remapped for a little more oomph? 6. Can i get a towbar for it? No seriously..........gregers, how the hell did you find this?
  20. Bl**dy cars, got a mind of their own! :o
  21. Hi, i have a 2002 on a 02 plate 1.9tdi, and the front discs are 300mm (vented) and 268mm rear (solid). However, you are best to measure the discs that are on the car already.
  22. The normal and according to the handbook way of changing the sidelight bulbs is via the plastic hatch in the wheel arches. However, if you have hands that are a normal size then you will definitely struggle. Headlamp removal is the other option but be careful when refitting that the aim is not adjusted. The link you require is this one.
