  1. Yeah, it's good, however, since it's only anti-virus then you'll need a firewall. 'Comodo' firewall is an excellent free firewall program, don't use the windows firewall as this is not as good as Comodo. I recommend that you also download 'Spybot'. But remember - only have one of each programs running or there will be a conflict issue, i.e. 1 anti-virus, 1 firewall and 1 spybot.
  2. Last post before bed! Ace, from the picture in the link that turk90210 gave, can you not get a ring spanner in at one of the nuts nearer to the edge and then remove them one by one. With reference to the cable, follow it from the box to lead you to the alternator. If you still don't feel up to the job then do what mikej suggested i.e. buy the parts from the dealers then go to a small garage and agree on a price (important part is that it should take no longer than 30 minutes for a experienced mechanic to fit). I would estimate this will cost you no more than
  3. Woww, what a description - now if that happened to me on the dark country roads up here in Scotland then i would probably sh*t myself! Anyway, give turk90210's advice a try and good luck.
  4. Could be a multitude of things e.g. Faulty battery, non-standard sound system, dvd system if fitted, in-car chargers accidentially left plugged in, short journeys not allowing the battery to get fully charged, interior lights left on, if there is nothing obvious then you are going to have to carry out a 'parasitic drain test' on your car. this involves connecting an ammeter between the earth cable and the earth post of the battery and noting the current drain. there should be no more than 60mA. if there is, then you have to start removing fuses until the current drain reduces. this will indicate the circuit at fault. you will then have to test all the components fed by that fuse. this can be quite a time consuming job and may be best left to a qualified auto electrician.
  5. According to the handbook, the tyre inflations should be: Up to half load: Front - 2.8 bar, 41psi Rear - 2.6 bar, 38psi Up to a full load: Front - 3.0 bar, 44psi Rear - 3.4bar, 49psi I normally run mine at 42-43psi front and rear with good even tyre wear all round. Hope it helps.
  6. Dennis, try the link i gave in my last post.
  7. This car should be able to go into fifth (or even sixth) gear at 40mph with no problem whatsoever. As you state that it's still under warranty then if i was you i would take it back to the dealer and ask - no insist that they rectify the fault.
  8. Sitting in the car, the left hand wiper should be on top.
  9. The thing with insuring vehicles has many contributing factors. One company may be cheap for one driver doesn't necessarily mean it will be cheap for another driver. Location, age, previous claims, no-claims bonus, how many vehicles in household, age of drivers, how many drivers on policy, mileage per annum, profit for insurance company, little add-ons etc etc etc are all taken into account to determine the price you pay. The best way to get a deal is to shop around and get the companies to play of each other.
  10. And much cheaper than the Pela pump that was mentioned on this forum a few weeks back.
  11. The oil the OP used is the correct oil for the Galaxy (PD engine) and 505.01 spec. BTW, Brash, well done!
  12. gregers, you still looking for a window regulator and wondering if the mk1 fits a mk2? Well this person is selling them on ebay and according to his listing the same regulator fits both mk's from 1995-2004. He is expensive (brand new) but i'm sure you can get a second hand one cheaper.
  13. What are the led's on the door doing - are they flashing? Click on my signature where it says "FAQ's....." and i believe it's no. 36 for your query.
  14. Quidco works with some companies, however, if you get a quote through Quidco then go back to the original company they more than often match the same price especially when you tell them about the caskback company, therefore you get it the same price but do not need to wait for the cashback.
  15. Try a few comparison websites like confused.com and the likes. I'm with more>than and from past experiences have for some daft reason send me a renewal higher than the previous year even with another claims-free year - so what i normally do is use the comparison site and get a lower premium and guess what - another year with more>than! Yep, same company, cancel the renewal and take out a new policy with the same company. Very strange you may ask.
  16. Check the vaccum hoses for leaks. Also try searching the forum for the same problem you have - eg try this link.
  17. Could it be the pollen filter? Did he renew it? As gregers already mentioned, the washer fluid if topped-up with cheap solution has been noticed to give off a horrible smell. But in your post you say that when the car is started it smells - so i'm thinking maybe the belts being new and not had enough running time to settle in.
  18. If you cannot get into the engine then try this link. I understand it's use is for checking insured vehicles but when i put my vehicle registration in it came back with make, model, trim level, fuel and bhp in brackets.
  19. I got one recently from ebay for
  20. Welcome mate. Hope you you get all the info you require from here.
  21. I think the problem was that the pictures disappeared before most people had seen them otherwise you may have had people responding to them. Kev, The reason why the pictures disappeared is that the uploader himself removed them because he got all huffy because no-one thanked him for uploading them along with his explanation of a gearbox removal. Saif
  22. Good to have you back - hope all is well.
  23. No harm in trying,is there if you can get into the gubbins of the motor? What a few quid for the cable but hell of alot of manual labour involved, but i suppose if you suceed then that would be an achievement and a great sense of personal satisfaction. Go for it and good luck.
  24. I don't know 100% but i think the chassis plate is located on the floor near the side of the drivers seat - i believe there is a small flap where the carpet lifts up to reveal the plate. However, like i said i am not 100% but you can check.
