Type 017, got one on Tuesday for
-
Hi all, Been away from this site a while now which probably meant i had years of trouble free motoring! But no, had a lot going on in my life. Well anyway, i have a problem: The Key Fob stopped working yesterday as my wife was shopping in the local Asda store. She locked it ok but on return wouldn't open, tried the blade but still nothing. She phones me at work and got a taxi home. I got home thinking it was the batteries which i changed and off we went late last night. But still nothing. So the car was left there all night. This morning after phoning a few locksmiths, i went down armed with a trade can of WD40 (with a straw) and proceeded to give the drivers door lock a good soaking. After a few hours, nothing. Got a RAC guy (through a friend of a friend of a friend!) to come out who gave the key a wallop whilst in the barrel and eventually it opened and got the car started. But still no luck via the fob. He did check the fob do see if it was working with one of his gizmos and it was fine. I had the car battery changed on Tuesday but the key fob was working fine, so i stumbled to the cause of the problem. I have searched the forum but all list programming additional fobs (I only have the one). Can anyone shed any light or do i need to go to the stealers? Many thanks. Saif

For 17" alloys, the correct tyre and thus correct rolling radius will be 225/45/17 but also make sure that the tyres are reinforced. With regards to why there are different tyres fitted maybe down to that they were bought like that. On my Alfa Romeo 156, i have 205's on the front and 215's on the rear, however, i will be changing them soon so they are all the same.

Mk2 Galaxy Lx Questions
Saif Rehman replied to Benn2001's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Benn, 1. If it is a proper badge and not a transfer then the badge is held on by a couple of nuts and the grill will need to come off to allow access. 2. Headrests, try your luck on ebay for someone who is breaking a Galaxy, for the gear stick gator, plenty available brand new on ebay again. 3. The parking sensor topic has been covered a few times already, try the 'search' facility. -
Frozen Handbrake ....
Saif Rehman replied to AndyBWales's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
What i normally do in this cold weather is not to use the handbrake but to leave the car in gear with the steering wheel facing slightly towards the kerb. Once the weather is warm enough then i revert back to using the handbrake. I agree with seatkid in regards to the self adjusting mechanism but mine was the nsr that caused the one side to eat the disk - changed a few months back so no doubt i better check to see if all is ok. -

Have you checked the bulbs? Are you getting power to the bulbs? -
The only part i would be interested in would be the fuel computer but for

Front Wheel Side Impact!
Saif Rehman replied to seatkid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
From you description, i would say that probably no damage has been done (apart from the wheel). I have had quite a few of these type of mishaps especially the time when i used to be a Paramedic way back in the 90's and used drive around like a nutter. :) As long as the steering feels normal and no strange knocking noise then it should be okay. -
Cheers gregers, i stand corrected.

If no-one suggests any then try the Yellow Pages or yell.com for auto locksmiths, in regards to the pats chip, you cannot buy them on their own, it will have to be the complete key fob and key blade as the chip is normally situated at the blade end (see previous picture). But make sure the frequency matches your old one (embossed on the side). They normally pop up on ebay and also the blank key blade so you can have it cut and programmed for your car.

But with 6 previous owners on a 02 plate - that equates to nearly a new driver every year

I too have been spammed by the luscious Lisyka

I think where we are getting confused with is all to do with terms used on these websites like 'static rolling radius', 'rolling radius', 'diameter', and 'circumference'. You were partially correct with your figure which is the diameter...........anyway, back to your query, the difference will be very slight and not worth worrying about.
-
robpol and mk2vr6, I've just spent the best part of 10 minutes trailling through websites for "tyre rolling radius" and can see both websites where the robpol and mk2vr6 got there information from and to be honest my brain is frazzelled with figures so i am gonna bail out until someone who can explain in layman terms where these figures come from or how they are calculated. :)

gregers, my Tomtom sat-nav would read 70mph when my car speedometer would be showing 67-68mph. I've tried it with other sat-navs and all show about the same readings i.e. car speedo showing 2-3mph less than sat-navs. I assume thats why police cars get a proper speedo calibration done to their cars because normal speedometers have a degree of inaccruacy.
-
Any good decent garage will have a diagnostic machine, shop around for a price but try to avoid main dealers as they are very expensive.
-
Speedometers, generally speaking are normally calibrated to show a slightly faster speed than actually travelling, so a difference of 3mm rolling radius will not make a significant difference in what is shown on the speedometer.

Maybe a loose connection at the blower, spare wheel winch can be bought pretty reasonably from ebay, look out for sellers who are breaking Galaxy's.

Parking Sensors
Saif Rehman replied to DARREN COOMBER's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If one sensor stops working then that causes the whole lot to stop working. IIRC, there is a way to find out which is not working by listening for a 'clicking' noise. Do a search under 'parking sensors' as this topic has been covered before. -
Your Thoughts Please, Rs6 Or New Rs4 Alloy Wheels
Saif Rehman replied to robpol's topic in Customising your Ford Galaxy
According to the link i gave you, that combination should be ok and personally i like the RS6 style. There is a member here by the name of jkspoff who has 18" fitted, so i think he would be the best person to confirm this. -
