Divide your horsepower by your mpg then the petrol looks better! Meaningless figure but who cares!

Does the radio still turn off when the key is removed? If not you have a sticky ignition lock. Isn't it also attached to the door light switches so it goes off when you open a door with the lamps on? Do all these turn the internal lamps on and off? Otherwise the buzzer has probably worn out and needs replacing.

Purple in mine, attached to the very top pin in the middle yellow plug.

Is is dripping out of the gate? Sometimes rain can run down between the gate and the body (where it is meant to) to and pool on the top of the rear bumper, but outside the car, especially if the car is facing forwards down a slope. When you open the gate it can splash you. Water often hides between the number plate and the body after washing so as soon as you have polished the car and shut the tailgate it runs all over the bumper and lower tailgate.

If you don't have a fitted stalk or multifunction wheel, does the wiring harness have the wires and plugs for the stalk and radio as standard? They are not immediately obvious behind the radio if they are there, there is just the half yellow plug with the purple (speed/volume) sense wire.

Do you need to know or even care?

What Wives Do (normally)
MrT replied to Davetheref's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I cannot see why if it is only superficial damage that you cannot rub it down and touch it up. The galaxy's wheels are not polished metal alloys, they have some sort of silver metallic paint with a clear laquer overcoat. Depending on the damage it could just be a bit of touch up silver paint then a laquer coat or even just a bit of clear laquer. If it is silver paint, it would just finding the closest matching car body colour from any car manufacturer. I would be interested to know which is the best match. Any chunks out the metal would require specialist work. The galaxy wheels are very expensive when compared to top market after market wheels. -
Performance Diesel Fuel?
MrT replied to buford_t_justice's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Similar with unleaded and the super-unleaded petrol that I am meant to use. Not sure if there is any difference in usage, but BP Ultimate, Shell Optimax charge a lot more whilst Sainsburys is only 1p a litre more than standard. -
Interior Lights - Clock, Astray, Sear Selector

Try Maplin they have shops everywhere nowadays and there also offer online delivery which although specified as several days usually arrives next day at reasonable postage rates. -
Level 2 is immediately behind level 1 and level 2 behind level 3. The whole fuse mechanism will hinge out, but it is very tricky to do it.

I may as well ask again, does anyone know the block and code to turn the cruise control light on in the instruments? On some Galaxies this light is not enabled in the software but is implemented in electronic cruise control.

It also seem to the same here within 50 miles of the M25 but is the locals that do it, they cannot seem to bear a people carrier in front.

My wife is not allowed to drive the Galaxy! Oddly enough the insurance was about 10% cheaper with her added to the policy as an additional driver rather than just having a single named driver.

Just Ordered A Tomtom Go: Best Place To Put It?
MrT replied to markie's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I prefer the re-radiating type as they do not need to be connected to the unit and are especially good if you have more than one GPS unit in your car. They do require a power supply, but come with a light plug that another lighter plug can fit in to. I got mine from Global Positioning Systems They also do a specific antenna for the TomTom Go but I know nothing about its performance etc. TomTom have also released an update to version 4.40 for the TomTom Go today. -
Isofix Child Seat Anchorage Points.
MrT replied to Mussey1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The following comes from Which? Which? also highlights that ISOfix, the universal child seat system, that has taken the car industry 10 years to develop, is inadequate. The few ISOfix seats available are vehicle specific and use only two anchorage points, below and behind the adult car seat. But in tests the ISOfix seats tend to overturn. -
Just Ordered A Tomtom Go: Best Place To Put It?
MrT replied to markie's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
The goose neck arm I have on my holder comes with a suction cup holder which is a flat piece of plastic with a 3mm rim. This has a strong self adhesive layer which adheres it to the dash. The suction cup sucks and sticks into this. The gooseneck came with the Seidio mount, but the same arm and cup comes as part of the Halford's universal phone mount for -
Just Ordered A Tomtom Go: Best Place To Put It?
MrT replied to markie's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I have not tried mounting the GO unit as I use a PDA, but I have tried numerous placements in the car and the roof mounting area did not go well. Unlike other instruments or the rear view mirror, you tend to stare at the Navigator screen rather than glance at it. You also need to touch buttons on it whilst driving. To stare at the screen the Navigator needs to be in your normal field of vision so that when you are looking at it, you are still looking in the direction you would be whilst driving. This way if the car in front suddenly slows, whilst you may not be focused on that distance you certainly see it happening. The two positions I have found best placed is above dash level just to the left or right of the steering wheel. The left gives a slightly better positioning for viewing and is also more out of reach of smash and grabbers. In this position you can touch the screen or buttons without moving your hands off the wheel. If you look in a thread in the technical section called "Picture of Galaxy Wiper Area Required" you can see within my picture through the windscreen the back of the mount. Not the most aesthetically pleasing from outside, but after many moves and drives, certainly the best for usage. Also with the GO unless you are using an external aerial or better still a re-radiating aerial (no aerial connection to be made when moving the unit) you will not get a good GPS signal in the roof bulge area. This may differ on cars with sunroofs, mine has a solid roof. On the dash area you get a reasonable signal without an additional aerial. My GPS receiver unit (separate from PDA) is out of sight in the middle top glove box. I suggest you use temporary mountings for a while until you find the best position for yourself. -
Pictures Of 2004 Galaxy Wiper Area Required.
MrT replied to MrT's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks DaveC. The particular areas of interest are how the middle bit of trim aligns and fits to the windscreen (I assume there is a mounting plate below it), the panel between the engine and the wiper motor area with the full width rubber strip (hopefully not changed since mine) and where the washers jets are located. -
Isofix Child Seat Anchorage Points.
MrT replied to Mussey1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Not sure about the spec of ISOFIX, but on my previous (97) Galaxy I used a Britax child seat fixing kit which had two standard anchor points. These contained two longer than standard seat bolts and spacers (stepped cylindrical sleeve/washer) that the belts fitted over. I had to dismantle the plastic sides of the seat to fit it, but it fitted in OK to the seat belt anchor points at the lower back corners of the seat. I still have the box and it says on it "For use with existing ECE R.14 car anchorage points only" The kit was called the Britax Freeway Fitting Kit KTG4000/U, Halfords Part No 427 377. -
You don't need to undo the four screws to remove the radiator grille. The radiator grill is held on by four barbed tongues on both top and bottom. You can see the position of these from your new grille or the picture below. You need to push something that will not scratch the bumper and open the gap between the grille and its surrounding parts to push each wedge down so it can be pulled out of its hole. A really hard pull would do the same, but you risk breaking the square holes that the wedges fit into if you do this. The new one just pushes in.

After replacing my windscreen, the plastic trim around my wiper area has cracked mounts and loose and I want to replace it with the 2004 version. The 2004 version differs in that the bonnet hinge covers (Part 4 & 5 in the diagram) are replaced with a small spoiler. The trim around the wiper shafts (1 & 2) and the the ribbed bridge (3) is replaced by a flatter plastic trim that fits the screen. I have got the bonnet spoiler but I am having difficulty explaining to my supplier what the newer windscreen fitting trim parts (1-3) are as they don't have a 2004 Galaxy to look at. The spoiler does not clear existing parts 1,2 &3. The plate that part 3 fits to could also need replacing with a modified version. If anyone has a 2004 Galaxy with the new lower screen/wiper trim and could post a photo like mine here I would appreciate it.
