  1. What is special about multifunction fuses and why must they be changed by a main dealer? How do you get to these level3 fuses to check them? There seems to be a hinge mechanism on the fuse box but I cannot see how to release it. (2001 model)
  2. No disks. What happened was that above 70mph braking hard would make the car shudder and the steering wheel vibrate about an inch side to side. The disks kept warping due to some manufacturing or design defect. They were replaced under warranty. The excuse given by the (ex) Ford main dealer was that as the car was an auto drivers tended to keep their foot on the brake when stopped to stop the car moving off and this squeezed the two discs together at this point. Sounds a load of rubbish to me.
  3. On the current and previous models of Galaxy my brakes have been very good although my 1997 model went through two sets of front discs in its first year. They leave a lot of black sticky dust on the alloys. If the brake fluid needs topping up on mine, you would have to take out the air filter to get to it.
  4. I don't like the heated front screen at night. I find the elements in it sparkle especially with oncoming cars with xeon lamps. I also don't like the way they removed the steering wheel radio control on the newer model Ghia's. The trip computer on the older models used to tell you how many miles until you needed to refuel. The newer ones do not. The older models had an infinitely adjustable intermittent wiper speed, the newer models have fixed intervals. The older models had electrically operated rear quarter lights. On the new model only one opens and the other is manual. On the newer models you have to pay for the rear area cover, it used to be free. Have you ever accidently turned the climate control off, the car mists up in seconds in only moderately poor conditions. The computer unit sometimes gets confused over which door is open. The price of the Xeon headlamps. Why do women think that the door trays are litter bins?
  5. I have taken the A pillar trim off down to dashboard level and no sign of any connectors. Tomorrow I will go the last 3 inches below the board. All there is a white tube or cable going up the RHS into the roof and a cloth bound multicable going to the roof on the LHS.
  6. I had a bad vibration problem when braking at high speed and it turned out to be warped disks. This happened twice in one year and 6,000 miles. Both times repaired under warranty.
  7. On my previous Galaxy (2.8i auto 1997), the cruise control nearly caused me to have an accident the first time I used it. I had it set at about 70 on the motorway and the traffic slowed down so as I braked the cruise control cut out as expected, one the hazard had cleared at about 35mph, I re-engaged cruise control and the cruise control dropped the accelerator to the floor, the auto kicked right down, revs up to near the red line and nearly ended up the back of the car in front.
  8. It was replaced around a year ago by Autoglass, but is out of their warranty and I never normally need to use the heater to defrost as the car is garaged. It may well never have worked since replacement but the with recent ice and leaving it out overnight I noticed it was not heating. The air conditioning always clears the internal mist. I have used the original to clear frost.
  9. I have had my heated front windscreen replaced and the heater no longer works. The fuses and relays seem fine so I need to test that power is getting to the screen. I assume (hope) it is a poor connection rather than a faulty screen. However I cannot find the wires. I do not know if they connect to the screen from above the wiper motors in the engine compartment, from behind the dash, the side pillars or the head lining. Does anyone know where the wires connect to the screen and how to access this point?
