Is that code for the light or is it to enable cruise control where it is not currently enabled?
-
Well I have topped the system up and have a little cooling back, I don't want to go to far and overfill it. This should do me for my holidays until I can get what I assume is a leak found and fixed. Oddly enough the flashing of my console was caused by a speed sensor error. I have reset this with VAG COM.

I think this poll should be modified to allow you to change your vote. I voted no problems, but this has now changed and the ******* has stopped chucking out cold air. The compressor is still working and engages and disengages as expected, VAG-COM detects no errors in the climate control, so it looks like a loss of refrigerant.

Aaaarrrrrrggghhhh My Nuts Are Tight !
MrT replied to paulmpaciorek's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Some of the earlier Galaxies had two piece construction locking wheel nuts and when they stuck they had a habit of coming apart when forced. The head was connected to the bolt by a short spline. -

Having the tyres with more grip on the rear is better as you say, however having deeper tread does not equate to more grip. In dry conditions a slick would give more grip. The deeper the channels in the tread the more water can be be pumped away to avoid aquaplaning and the rear tyres have little to do in this area compared to the front. -

My Galaxy tires wear evenly across the surface and for all intents and purposes all the tyres rotate perpendicular to the road. Any imperceptable changes in tread wear across the tyres are more than compensated for by the flexing of the carcass due to the load. You are far more at risk by changing two tyres rather than four as having tyres with different levels of grips (due to changes in either manufacturer or even advances in tyres from the same manufacturer) could cause instability at the limits of adhesion. It is more important to have the greater amount of tread at the front where it can pump the water away, the rear tyres have less water to move as they follow the path already cleared by the front. -
I had these few and far between no idea why, but never happens again for 6 months or so, then happens once.

Straight Wiper Blades On Newer Cars
MrT replied to tim-spam's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
The newer plastic bits fit the earlier facelifted models. I replaced mine when I had my windscreen broken twice and heavy handed Autoglass cracked the old plastic trim. I bought a pair of the new Bosch aero twin blades and arms on ebay for about -
Do you know if that because the Galaxy does not support it or you don't have the codes to do it?

I was not aware that the autolocking doors unlocked again when you slowed down. I never quite worked out why the door locking button is there on the Mk2 when it is next to the door handle which does the same job.
-
It is usually to stop people opening the door to the car to snatch a bag or rob you that is why you want to lock the doors. It is not that rare in some of the less pleasant urban areas in traffic jams.

Something's Fishy With The Boot Lid!
MrT replied to Taliska's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Not sure if this warranted a new thread, but opening any door disables the auto-relock feature, when it is the drivers door that is opened you also hear a few whirrs like a servo from behind the dash or at the back of the engine, that do not occur with the other doors. I am curious as to what this is. -
Mine were prior to the version with the side LEDs. I only tried them in the brake lights and reversing lights.
-
It looks good to me.
-
I tried the LED bulbs in the rear of the Galaxy and they were far dimmer than the original bulbs. The problem is the LED bulbs emit light in one direction and this just shines out the back through only the centre of the lens. The normal bulbs emit light in all directions and this scatters off the textured surface of the reflector giving a much larger brighter light visible from a far wider angle.

I thought it went off when the engine was turned off as the key turned all the warning lights off as well.

My Mk1 Galaxy 2.8i Auto only got around 16mpg driving around in London which sound similar to yours. It got around 22mpg on motorways. My Mk2 2.8 Auto gets 22-25mpg under the same conditions with about 28mpg with slower driving.

1996 Galaxy Gearbox Tdi Compatability
MrT replied to apples24's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It may not make much difference on a RWD vehicle where the ratios between the diesel and petrol may differ in just the rear differential but in an integrated FWD it would make a massive difference. If you put a petrol gearbox (assuming it would fit) on the Galaxy diesel there is almost a 2:3 difference in overall gearing. The box would expect to reach the maximum speed for each gear at around 6000+rpm, yet the diesel engine would never reach this speed. Your consumption would be massively increased as you rpm would be higher than it should be for a given speed. With all due respect, if you are not aware of the effect it would have changing from one type to another, should you be doing such work on the engine/gearbox? -

I believe that they have different overall ratios between models but I am not sure where the difference occurs, but I know that the diesels have a different mph/rpm ratio to the petrol. -
I may have missed it but which version did Chromedome go for, the double that needs the extra 60mm or the single? Does cutting a hole in the sealed back access cover allow moisture into the lights, I would have thought that it was sealed for a reason?

Engine Stops After Braking Sharply
MrT replied to LOZ's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If your wheels lock up due to an ABS failure before you depress the clutch, the engine will stall as it will lock up with the wheels. Seems a bit to obvious so maybe it is not the answer you are looking for. -
Programing Electric Windows
MrT replied to Masked Marauder's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The design behind this is an apple is rather like the shape of your hand and hands can get caught in windows, so they are designed not to cut hand or apple sized objects. If you are sticking banana sized bits of your body in electric windows you deserve what you get :D -
I just had a pad replaced under warranty today and it would have cost
