  1. I have not taken it off but I have removed the grilles, the wheel arches and had my hand all round the inside and I cannot find any mount or anything loose. I think it is just the insufficient plastic holdings bending.
  2. I would have thought that the rear air con would be colder as it only works in recirculatory mode. It sucks air in from the floor and blows it out through the vents. The front air con usually works with fresh air from outside, unless you set it to recirc.
  3. The Front bumper on my Galaxy seems loose just below the front drivers headlight. I can feel it sliding around 5mm up and down. On the passengers side it moves but you can feel it flexing rather than sliding. I have checked underneath and the solid metal beam is rock solid. Looking at the manual the bumper cover is only held on by three screws (plastic rivets on mine)underneath the car and the star bolts under the bonnet. Is there some other sort of mount or rail under the headlight that takes the weight of the bumper cover? I don't want to remove the whole bumper cover unless I have to, as I am bound to mark it or break a clip or two.
  4. I see the telephone smart lead for the Galaxy does not work with active systems. What is an active system in the Galaxy? Telephone Smart Lead This item seems a little expensive at
  5. Do you have a tow bar fitted? This can have this effect.
  6. If the bolt head is in the bit with the actual gears that would seem an excessive risk. If the bolt head jammed between the gear wheels that could lock the gearbox and something serious would break or even the front wheels and transmission could lock and cause an accident. Not something I would risk.
  7. Any problems fitting it?
  8. There is an online form on the ford.co.uk website which they usually respond to within a day.
  9. This may vary between models and age. You should have two lights on your dash related to this when you first start the car. There should be a light with a picture of a bulb and another with a picture of the brake pedal with a circle. The light with a picture of a bulb should go out when you first press the brake pedal and the other will go out then come back on after a few seconds if you do not move the gears. If this does not happen, your brake switch(es) (there are two on the pedal) could be faulty. There is also a mechanical interlock cable (like a bike brake cable) that links between the ignition lock and the gearbox that prevents you removing the ignition key whilst in gear. This also could have stuck.
  10. Can you buy a better sounder for the standard Galaxy alarm? My Galaxy has the standard alarm with volume sensing, immobiliser and remote locking. However the alarm sounder is a small car horn with intermittant beeping which does not make much noise. Can you just buy a better sounder and attach it? Is the intermittant beep of the standard sounder part of the car alarm controller rather than the sounder meaning any new sounder would still have the intermittent pattern?
  11. The cost of these parts is not expensive, the most expensive at just under
  12. Unless I missed it, the VAG brushed handle has no cutouts for the rear windows and child lock switches.
  13. My TomTom receiver is inside the middle "glovebox" on top of the dashboard just in front of the clock. The plastic lid does not stop the signal and it keeps it out of sight.
  14. I was on the phone to Ford Customer Assistance and they have informed me that the trim is only covered by a one year warranty. They hinted at a partial goodwill gesture. What is the cost of these handles as the portion I pay towards labour and parts may cost more than me just paying for the parts and fitting myself?
  15. I think it started after the facelift. I wish I had known as I went for the 6 seater as I viewed the middle seat with lap belt as useless. I am also not sure if you have the rear air conditioning in the roof itaffects its fitting.
  16. Interesting on the VIN decoding, when my VIN is used in various Ford programs it comes up with the colour, engine, gearbox and "high end" model. I don't know if Ford use some of the build sequence keys to determine this.
  17. Not everyone knows this but Ford do a coolbox that replaces one of the seats in the Galaxy. It also works as a hotbox if you reverse the plug. It is very expensive at around
  18. I supposed with the Shalaxy a SEAT to the FORD is a bit like the Skoda to a Volkswagen, the same manufacturer but a poor brand image.
  19. It depends if you have dual air-con or not. My old gals only cold outlet in the back was on the floor behind the handbrake, the new one has three vents in the middle ceiling for the middle row of seats and another two further back for the rear seats.
  20. I found it interesting today when I was trying to use VAGCOM as the dealer had forgotten to reset the service reminder at my recent service. When the engine is designed for fixed servicing as recommended by Ford (12,000miles or 1 year) certain fields are required to be reset. However on mine these fields do not exist as my engine is set up for variable interval servicing. But the whole thing works around the quality of oil used, if you set it to low quality oil, it behaves as if it requires fixed interval servicing, if the oil is set to long life/better quality, the service interval depends on the way the car is used. To a cynic like me, it appears that Ford has disabled the variable interval servicing to ensure their dealers get more business.
  21. You can buy vag-com from Vag Com UK or the manufacturer Vag Com It works with Galaxies with the VW/Ford range of engines.
  22. Is it a real problem or just standard Galaxy wind noise caused by the roof bars. You can actually stick your fingers into the rubber seal gap when the door is shut and you are driving and if the noise seriously increases then you know you have not got a problem. If there is no change in sound level, then you have a problem. At really high speeds (120+) the tops of the doors do bend out slightly. Also check that the rubber seal and trim is pressed fully home right around the doors.
  23. I asked this question a while back and found out that autowindscreens had not earthed the replacement. I have a Mk2 and this is based on that, but the Mk1 will not be that different. The screen has two sets of elements so it is unlikely itself to have totally failed. The +12V power to the screen is by two heavy leads which are connected to fly leads from the elements. These two leads are connected under the side panels adjacent to the quarterlights at either side of the dashboard. Remove the panel and put your hand in the hole and feel for a thick lead and check it has power. The earth lead comes off the centre of the screen at the top in the form of a plastic strip with copper wires inside it and this is earthed to the body behind the light unit in the centre of the roof by the windscreen (behind the roof clock in the Mk1). On the Mk2, the screen will only work if the engine is running (actually running not just the ignition turned on). The fuse for the front screen is a level 3 fuse which are not normal fuses and may require a visit to the garage.
  24. Looking at the photo above made me wonder why they ever put the front central locking button there when the silver door handle adjacent performs exactly the same function. (well it appears to on mine)
  25. Are you talking Bosch Aero Twin for the
