Most likely the cable from the body to the tailgate has broken from regular flexing, a fairly common fault

Tuning Module For Galaxy Deisel 130ps
MrT replied to Davetheref's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Apart from the engine capacity, are the lower powered Galaxies built to lesser specs such as smaller clutches and weaker gearboxes? I assumed they would use a lot of common parts. As a tuned to 180hp Galaxy is still 24hp less than the 2.8i and that does not quickly burn out parts. -
Instrument Panel Misbehaving
MrT replied to rwtomkins's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You should also have the automatic selector light staying on until you press the brake pedal. This will go out when you press the pedal and will come on again several seconds later if you do not move the gear out of park. This looks like a green circle with a foot in it. -
Instrument Panel Misbehaving

This is perfectly normal behaviour. -
It depends on the type of air condition system you have. If you have roof inlet vents in the rear, you have a dual system and these will produce different temperature air depending on the requirements. If you don't have roof vents in the rear you will have less powerful airconditioning the rear area. The air conditioning is designed to be more powerful in the front as is has to cool the area heated through the windscreen in strong sunlight, which is why there is a sunlight sensor behind the centre dash clock on the facelifted versions. Also check the vents at the floor in the very rear left hand side, there are the air intakes for the rear airconditioning and if blocked with luggage can reduce its effectiveness.

It is usually written on the side. When you look at the tyres, the load rating is also an indicator as in my tyres are 215/55-ZR16-97W. The "97" means that that tyre will carry a load of 730KG which would usually mean re-inforced. However these are just load indicators and you should always check that any make of tyre is suitable by reading its specs of if they are not available with the manufacturer before fitting it. On cars like this it is never a good idea just to buy a cheap brand just because it is the right size, you need a lot of faith in a tyre to carry 2 tons at nearly 140 mph.
-
I should add that you should need to check before travelling abroad as in some countries it is illegal to have tyres rated lower than the top speed of the vehicle. I note on my Galaxy the originals are 215/55-ZR16-97W.

At that price were the tyres reinforced? They need to be for the Galaxy.

Ford Fridge For The Galaxy Power Lead
MrT replied to MrT's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for that. I no longer have the original lead and needed to know if the protection was in the box or the lead. It is the lead from what you say. Ford won't supply a replacement lead without a whole new lid for over -
Ford Fridge For The Galaxy Power Lead

DaveC, Is the sensor built into the box itself or the lead? If it is the lead there will probably be a moulded lump somewhere between the two ends. -
Ford Vnr9000 Tmc - The Mystery Solved

Useful diagram but does anyone know how pins 8 & 9 (Phone Audio #1 & #2) on plug C work? I would have assumed that when the unit receives the phone mute signal on Pin4, the phone audio input would be taken from these pins and fed through the unit. The unit mutes the radio and displays "phone", but it does not output any signal from the phone audio pins. Also the Parking Aid Mute pin seems to do nothing. -
I would never suggest it was a rattley old banger.

Ford Fridge For The Galaxy Power Lead
MrT posted a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
In the brochure Ford describe their coolbox/fridge as intelligent and turns off when the battery voltage drops. Someone in my car recently told me that this functionality is built into the lead that plugs it in and as my lead is nothing but a hard wire and has no electronic components, it will not have this protection. Does anyone know if the intelligence is built into the box itself or the power lead? My box is a genuine Ford version. I have also been told that the Galaxy rear sockets in the by the tailgate are power protected against draining the battery, is this true? -

In my description above, the wire colours are the wire colours within the mirror unit, not the car wiring harness.

Having only done it last week, here is what you need to do as on a facelifted galaxy. Do check the wires as they may differ on the car year. Although according to Ford the wiring exists above the light unit where the digital clock used to be, it did not on mine, so you will need to lower the front of the headlining. The mirror has six wires to it: Pin1: (White wire) A switched positive from the ignition to provide power Pin2: (Black wire) Ground Pin3: (Grey wire) Positive from reversing lights switch (reverse relay in auto) Pin4: (yellow wire) To external auto dimming mirror (not used) Pin5: (brown wire) To external auto dimming mirror (not used) Pin6: (green wire) Interior lighting (ground switched see below) You could get away with Pins 1 & 2 only but lose some of the features. Pin3 is used so that when you engage reverse gear the mirror is not dimmed Pin6 connects to the interior light so that when it is on the mirror is not dimmed. This connection is best made to the unused Pin1 (or white wire if wired) on the roof light plug as this pin is connected with two diodes to the bulbs in the interior light, so whichever one is on, the mirror does not dim. A small spade connector can be pushed into the missing pin on the socket. If the lamp is older and only has the three pins, permanent live, ground and switched ground (doors etc), you will need to connect pin 6 to the switched earth (brown/white). I doubt you have auto dimming external mirrors so pins 3 and 4 are not needed. Finding the reversing light wire is a bugger. I found mine on the back of the second level automatic gearbox relay behind the fuses on a blue/black wire. As you will probably not have a suitable plug, I suggest you do what I did. Removed the pins from the mirror plug. They are nice long thin pins which you can then push into the ends of the wires you have provided, then insulate them with rubber sleeves or tape. The mirror does not have quite the field of view of the manual mirror and takes a few seconds to change. They are around the

Cruise Control Has Stopped Working
MrT replied to pj_andrew's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The 2.8 speed control is electronically controlled through the powertrain control module. -
On many cars (years ago) I have taken the sump plug out of they have they have been some form of magnetised iron to attract metal particles. You used to have to remove the swarf from the sump plug. I suppose that would be too expensive nowdays and a cheaper alternative is used.

My concern with it possibly moving out and making a slight rattling noise when under no load worried me in case it was anything to do with the cam chain. That should not rattle and if it broke disaster, if an aux belt breaks, it's bad but a little cheaper to fix.
