  1. Posted in the Daily Telegraph...
  2. You did throw us a wobbly by saying that.... Whoever did that, should have seen/checked the state of the belts and made sure they were tensioned correctly! After all you have to take the aux belt and ps belt off to do that work!
  3. I believe Natwest hit 1p/share before bouncing back as well....... This is.......crazy....And today is LETSNATIONALISEALLTHEBANKS day!!! In other news.....Iceland was bought by Russia today for a handful of roubles....... Can someone confirm that the LHC did actually work and produce a rip in the space/time continuum and we have in fact been catapulated into a parallel universe where things look the same but are actually much wierder!!
  4. I'm sorry, but you have exceeded your monthly quota of questions. This thread will now close down...... Have a nice day
  5. Agree with Bleeno with likely diagnosis. But check you have the correct level of fluid in the Power Steering reservoir also.
  6. Not so invisible for the 200,000 UK savers with ICESAVE accounts. A lot are OAPs who live on savings interest. What would you say if RBS or Barclays or Lloyds or HBOS suddenly suspended withdrawals? Its nearer than you think
  7. Check all the vacuum pipes and connections for splits/leaks and blockages. They control the turbo boost pressure. Check the turbo actuator rod is moving full stroke and not sticking. See FAQ and search for many many posts on this subject.
  8. I hope you have a recession proof job, Gregers! OFFICIAL *****Icesave (Landbanksi) is now TitsUP! Bang goes my
  9. Brent crude now down to $85
  10. Are you talking about when the car is moving or stationary?
  11. OK, from your description it sounds as if you had ignition failure. Because of your prolonged cranking on a hot engine, your cat (and lambda probe) now probably dead - that shouldnt stop you from starting the car - check the ignition out - sparks at leads etc.
  12. If you "flooded" the engine maybe because of an ignition problem or had a bad misfire, unburnt fuel may have found its way into the catalytic convertor. The cat runs at a high temperature normally, but the addition of neat petrol causes the temperatures to rocket. In many cases the cat will destroy itself if this persists for more than a minute or so. You can usually detect a pugent bad egg smell in this situation, which is due to the formation of Hydrogen Sulphide at these temperature (unless the fuel is ultra low sulphur). To test whether your cat is kaput, go along to an MOT test station and ask for a quick emission check to check out the cat. They should charge you
  13. No mortgage? No savings? No job? No current account? Some good news for 150,000 british savers....the Icelandic government promised to guarantee 100% of all savers deposits in their banks (Icesave/Landsbanki, Kaupthing etc etc.) Some bad news though.....Icelandic banks debts are some 9 times total GDP of all of Iceland!!!
  14. AFAIK the standard auto box does not have an oil cooler.... If you go for an auto, then an external oil cooler is highly recommended otherwise the life of the box can be very short when towing.
  15. Well done and enjoy!
  16. And you can also add AUSTRIA and ITALY to the list which is growing by the day......
  17. Well, the time has finally come to pay the piper.......... USA - Bankrupt and clearly now living in cloud cuckoo land ICELAND - Bankrupt and running around like headless chickens looking for help from amonst others the USA! GREECE - Government has to guarantee all banks, guess why.... IRELAND - Ditto GERMANY - Ditto DENMARK - Ditto NETHERLANDS/BELGIUM - Nationalising Banks FRANCE - the usual French way e.g.- Government buying 30,000 homes to prop up Construction Industry UK - "No Boom and Bust" here...... Expect total chaos shortly..........Its probably too late for any last minute manouvers unless you have on-line instant access......
  18. For towing go diesel - the 4 cylinder petrol engines are too weak and economy is terrible when towing.
  19. Yes it does....ignore the information previously  99 model year 2.3L petrol only Check for 12 volts on the green/red wire going to the coil pak 1 and green/black wire to coil pak 2. These are supplied directly from the ignition switch when turned on. It could still be something simple like you didnt connect the ignition coils correctly - are the connectors fully home and right way round? otherwise the ignition switch is suspect especially if other things come on when the ignition is turned on.
  20. Some light reading for you here here and here There may be more out there waiting for a search....
  21. Make your mind up Sergei, was it 0 or 28???
  22. In order to help you further with electrical tracing you need to find out if its a 97 model year or 98 model year. The changeover was august 97, so an R reg could be either - but the wiring was completely revised at that year change. for 97 model year or earlier only....... Check for 12 volts on the black/yellow wire to the Electronic DIS module which is mounted on the bulkhead, centre This 12 volts comes from the K108 relay in central junction box (Ignition relay), which energises when the ignition switch is on for 98 model year....... Check for 12 volts on the black wires going to the coil paks. This is supplied directly from the ignition switch when turned on. Of course it could be something simple like you didnt connect the ignition coils correctly - are the connectors fully home and right way round?
  23. Seesh, methinks your auto electrician is pulling your plonker.......he will probably just pull the connector receptacle out of the housing, bend it back into the correct shape and push it back in.
  24. I was refering to the length of the book rather than the content...... ;)
  25. This is turning into War and Peace, the sequel...... ;)
