Newbie Please Help 2.0 Auto Mk 1 Stalling
seatkid replied to Muesli Camel's topic in Trainee member help
I take it you had the head skimmed and checked the block for distortion when changing the gasket. Breaking it and selling off the bits on ebay is possibly quite profitable, but please be honest when it comes to descriptions. -
That would explain those popping noises in my head......... Yes, it makes me wonder.........what was the question? :D

Cap In Hand And Begging For Help
seatkid replied to Scorpiorefugee's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I remember my brother lowering the cylinder head on a Standard 10 engine onto my fingers. Ouch! That hurt, but then I was but a wee lad..... I remember he put that Standard 10 engine into his Standard 8 to upgrade it, :D but it still seemed to have a top speed of about 30mph and was loud and shook and rattled a lot..... Good old side valves......decoking every 3000 miles........ Heater?......A good thick coat will suffice lad........ Radio?......My God, you need to buy a licence for that!! (7/6d IIRC).....anyway I doubt the dynamo would take the extra load...... :( -

Cap In Hand And Begging For Help

If any part of the turbo system (vane actuator, vacuum pipes, boost control) were dicky then it would trigger limp home mode which on a MkII is resettable only by turning off the engine and restarting. The EGR valve may be a good candidate to investigate. The EGR is normally closed, but at part load and hot engine, it opens to allow exhaust gas to be recirculated into the intake, thereby reducing the combustion temperatures (due to the CO2) and reducing NOx emissions. It closes again at high or low load/idle. The EGR valve gets gunged up with carbon particularly if youre a part load/hot engine type driver. If it were to stick part open, then max power would be greatly reduced. My EGR valve developed a loud whistle when it opened, indicating it was partly blocked. I cleaned it sucessfully (in that its stopped whistling) by using a double dose of Millers Diesel Sport 4 additive for a while coupled with several Italian tuneups. LOTS of black smoke at first....then eventually bingo! -

Sell the car on ebay...... :D -
I know two people who have had them. One (60) had angioplasty at the same time, she said it was a frighteneing experience (nerves I think). The other (70) suffered a stroke during the procedure, he was touch and go for a while, but made a fairly quick recovery (3-4 days). The risk of stroke increases steeply with age I believe. But they both benefited greatly from the treatment/investigation. Thats all I know.

Are We All Going To Die Next Wednesday?
seatkid replied to seatkid's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
As we're only a few hours away from the big bang :) I just thought I'd say, its been nice knowing you all http://briskoda.net/images/smilies/B_wave.gif and for all those I've upset or rubbed up the wrong way, I truly am sorry (..except for that one annoying git.. :) ). I will be spending tomorrow with my immediate family. My final thought for you all is...... "If you ever felt frustrated or annoyed or irritated by your Shalambra, think again and just thank God you NEVER bought a Vauxhall " http://briskoda.net/images/smilies/orb/angel.gif -

Front Of Car Wobble At Low Speed
seatkid replied to flashgordon400's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Bad wheel balance can be felt at very low speeds. Before you launch into stripping the car down, visit your local kwikfit or equivalent and ask them to check. -
Check driver/passenger door gaiters for shorted wires. See FAQ for further detail.
-
The switch you want to look at is on the radiator - passenger side, end tank, approximately halfway down, engine bay side. Its a 2 pole switch. One pole controls the fans when the radiator temperature gets too high. The other pole turns on the electric run on water pump.

Guys I Need Your Advice Please.

Or contact the insurance company and complain about Autoglass fobbing you and not guaranteeing their work. All insurers insist that repair work is guaranteed. -
and....Are you sure you don't just have a duff battery?

Wouldnt have thought rust would have made any difference. Go to non Autoglass centre e.g. RAC windscreens and ask their opinion why its cracked - dont mention the rust, but say Autoglass fixed it 5 months ago and you dont trust them that they've done the job right. I always found them friendly.. -

Seesh....what a mess.......what can I say? ebay! This should have been an issue you took up with the previous owner. Step 1. "Lose" the receipt Step 2. Drive into a previously unused/not-contacted Autoglass depot. Tell them it was replaced 5 months ago by Autoglass but can't find the receipt. Smile and flash those pretty eyes  .....a lot..... -

Could be several reasons, most likely a stone chip that several days after the event has suddenly cracked out. AFAIK virtually all insurance policies have windscreen replacement cover for a little or sometimes no excess. (mine is -
Water temperature wise my Tdi runs with the needle bang on centre mark, on light load drops just over a needle-width less, never seen it go more than a needle-width above. Oil temperature typically 93-98 deg round town, 98-105 on gentle run, 105-114 motorway, highest I've seen is 127 at 95mph+ (in Germany) with full load + a/c on + ambient of 38 deg. My 1st Alhambra (Tdi) developed a fault in 1st month. There was some debris (black goo) stuck in thermostat (that held it open less than 2mm) and the temperature struggled to rise to 1/4 - fixed under warranty (new thermostat)

Check to see if engine is seized. (On level ground, open bonnet, put in gear [e.g. 3rd], handbrake off, push the car and observe if the engine turns [pulleys rotate])

Likely to be faulty (or badly fitted) thermoswitch for fans.
-
Relay 30 problem stops the fuel pump working at all so it doesnt sound like that. More likely to be Idle control valve - see FAQ Nr. 59 If this "moaning" is abnormal (normally a whirr/sizzle, only audible with engine stopped) then it might be a faulty pump, blocked pickup, or blocked fuel filter. In each case I would think you would experience engine power problems e.g. at motorway speeds. Are you sure the moaning is from the pump (its located in the fuel tank) - its more likely just to be a vacuum or intake noise again possibly associated with the ICV
