Electrical Gremlins, No Obd Port?
seatkid replied to biturbo.s4's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Not really following this thread, but I expect you already know that the ignition has to be turned on to access OBD, maybe that why the immobiliser is blocking it. -
Flashing Glow Plug Light.
seatkid replied to newgas's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It could be as simple as a broken brakelight or side lamp or it could be something expensive and complicated. But as usual there is a woeful lack of information - :25: What engine, what year, what model, sheesh....why I bother trying to help? I just dont know. Please let us know if there are any other symptoms, e.g. the car accelerates really slowly (limp mode). If all your lights are working as they should, then a cheap VAGCOM/VCDS cable (you also need a laptop) would be the easiest route to a diagnosis as others have stated. -
There is no "diagram" for this. This must one of the shortest, light on facts, requests to date apart from the recent crop of "My car wont start, help!" questions. Some background leading up to the fault and as much relevant information is required before you can expect any member to help. We are not mind-readers... :25: Your title says no oil on cams, but then you say it drives well. ???? Have you taken the rocker cover off and established there is no oil getting to the cams? Oil light on may just be a faulty oil pressure switch or wiring. You need to establish if there is really no oil pressure/oil flow (usually loud banging from the engine main bearings will be a dead giveaway), running the engine in this condition for more than a few seconds will probably cause extensive damage that will require a total engine rebuild. If there really is no oil pressure, and hence no oil flow then its a sump off job and check the items in Sparky Pauls list.

Noisy Drive Belt On Ford Galaxy
seatkid replied to nattyjordan1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If this is a diesel engine (PD) then its almost certainly due (and probably has always been due) to a seized up alternator pulley. Explanation: PD engines are fitted with a Dual Mass Flywheel, the primary flywheel of which is very light. At low speeds (especially under load), the crankshaft does not run at a constant rotational speed, but speeds up and down significantly twice during each turn of the crankshaft. This in turn is passed to the auxilliary drive, including the alternator. As the alternator rotor has a high inertial mass, it is not possible for the belt drive to accomodate this high speed modulation of speed. The solution was to fit a one-way pulley on the alternator. Remove the drive belt and check the alternator pulley, hold the alternator rotor still with a screwdriver and the pulley should freewheel in the non driven direction. They often seize up and the aux belt bounces like mad, for a while your tensioner (which will bounce like mad) will try and damp this out, but eventually that will wear out. Its likely that this has been the problem all along. Your garage should know better and thanls to them you have wasted money. Its possible to change the pulley (it costs around £50 plus labour), it may be easier/cheaper to change the entire alternator if you intend to DIY. -
It only needs battery disconnecting for less than 30 secs to reset the ecu.

How Best To Empty Fuel Tank
seatkid replied to new nige's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
As its a plastic fuel tank, it would be easier to (hand)drill a small hole in it, and then stick a bung back in as, presumably, you'll have to drive it to the scrapyard. My local scrap merchant pays by weight and I reckon you'll get only about £200 for it. You would probably get considerably more on ebay as the parts values can add up to quite a bit. If its a good engine, that'll be worth a fair bit. I don't suppose its got headlamp washers on it? -
The sender and fuel pump are in the fuel tank itself. I believe if you pull the carpet up (around offside passenger) you will find an access hatch. If its anything like the VW golf I had (remember the galaxy is basically a vw design) the the sender is attatched to the pump, but IIRC it was detachable. Also I seem to remember it was an open/exposed wire potentiomter design, and I vaguely recall it had slotted mountings, presumably to allow adjustment. I think also that the fuel gauge can be calibrated electronically using Vagcom (you'll probably need the full version). Remember to disconnect the battery, before going into the fuel tank!! Lastly, if you disconnect the battery, when you reconnect, then on the first start, the gauges will all swing momentarily to full scale as a test feature. Whether this is an auto calibration, I'm not sure. Also remember your radio code is lost when the battery is disconnected, so you will need to have it to recode the radio.

If you've checked all the fuses (on both block diagrams) then now you need to check the pressure switch with ignition on,the blower on and a/c switched on. I think you need to see 12 volts on all 4 terminals. i.e. both switches closed.

Tdi Cambelt Cover And Timing
seatkid replied to alan_131's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I could be wrong but my conclusion was also that the engine mount needs to be removed in order to remove the cover - stupid, I know. The engine needs to be supported when removing the mount, thats what the big eye on the top of the block is for. Check the wiring that goes to injector no.3 - thats the needle lift sensor. Its not uncommon to have broken wiring at the connector located down the wire and this f**ks up the timing. However you would also likely see an error on Vcds. -
Where Is Air Con Low Pressure Port?
seatkid replied to ARSENAL79PLACE's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
They could have at least looked at where the leak was.......... :glare: Likely to be hole in the condensor (front radiator) or a split or corroded pipe. -
Yup, Saif you're right! AND the tell tale (little light on the switch) also needs to work correctly (just looked it up). OP needs to check his rear fog bulb (located in offside tailgate cluster). The "always on" telltale is probably a faulty switch but check the tester pushed the switch fully in to turn off the fog lights otherwise the telltale will be lit in the park and headlamp positions.
-
AFAIK Fog lights are not part of the MOT and cannot fail MOT.
-
Just check it, because that eliminates a number of possibilities if it works correctly.
-
Provided you have the 115 bhp variant (not the 130bhp variant) these block diagrams may help. First thing to check, does the (internal front) blower run on all speed settings? Check all those fuses at the top of Block diagram 1 and the fan speed resistor pack if the blower doesnt work. When you have the blower speed on no.1 and the a/c turned on, does the radiator fan(s) come on (at low speed)? Check all the fuses on Block Diagram 2. After that you need to check the output of the pressure switch.

Problem With Car Going Into Lump Mode :(
seatkid replied to KerryCW's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
p122 p123 refer to throttle position sensor outputs p014 I think just means intermittent fault. So it looks like a dicky throttle sensor (the one on the accelerator pedal) -

Cooling System Not Working Properly.
seatkid replied to gowler's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Check the belts have been routed correctly, IIRC its possible to put them on wrong and maybe the water pump is turning the wrong way. Then I would say change thermostat first and if that dont fix it change the water pump. -
Galaxy Speedo Going Nuts
seatkid replied to ianbin2012's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Seem to remember a recent post, but cant find it. IIRC it basically said check a wiring loom connector - that had been disconnected during a clutch change or something, but not fully reconnected when put back. -
To be honest, any car with a non working gearbox, especially auto box, is worth only scrap value. To have a new auto box fitted is well north of £1000 (if you can get a cheap auto box, they are as rare as hens teeth). Try ebay, maybe someone needs a donor car, but I doubt you'll get anywhere near £1100. If you bought it from a trader , and the autobox went kaput soon after, you should go back to the trader and demand your money back as required by law. Possibly the same with a private sale, though this is not covered by law.

Where Is Air Con Low Pressure Port?
seatkid replied to ARSENAL79PLACE's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The top one is the High pressure and the bottom one the low pressure. Take it to a place (e.g. kwikfit) that has a suitable machine that plugs into both ports, make sure they use both ports! Check they program it for the correct quantity of gas (there is a sticker with R134a quantities to the right of the bonnet latch) and the rest should be automatic. THe machine sucks out (recovers) any gas in your system and holds a vacuum for several or more minutes. This ensures that there is no obvious leak, and the vacuum "boils" off any water etc in the system. It then fills the system with the correct weight of gas and also should insert some PAG oil, the quantity being equal to the amount "recovered" plus sometimes a couple of cc extra, depending on the policy of the garage. Insist on keeping the report spewed out by the machine, it'll tell you how much came out and how much they put back in. -
Battery Going Flat Overnight.
seatkid replied to ianayres's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You probably damaged/water logged/displaced an electrical connector and/or electronic unit(s) such as the alternator. You should never steam clean an engine as damage is often the result! Check all the connectors in the area you blasted, undo/inspect/dry/remake them. However it sounds as if your alternator is bust. If you have a meter, start the car and check it is charging (14.3 volts at the battery with headlights on), it probably isnt. You may have damaged the voltage regulator in it. -
Where Is Air Con Low Pressure Port?
seatkid replied to ARSENAL79PLACE's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
On the Mk1 (-2000) it is behind the drivers side front indicator, one screw and slide the indicator out to reveal. It may be somewhere else on the Mk2 A proper regas uses both ports.
