The small lever on the front, at the bottom of the upright part of the seat (might be on left or right depending on the seat). When you lift this, the seat normally tips forward but you can push the seat back instead then release the lever when the seat is in the desired reclined position. There is also a foot-operated lever behind the seat that does the same job.

Sorry, please ignore my previous comment - I replied too quickly. Even fitting 205/60 R13 wheels/tyres would only make a 12% difference, e.g. showing 67mph when you're actually doing 60mph. I wouldn't recommend this though. Apart from looking very silly you wouldn't get the required load rating at this size! For reference, fitting 195/60 R15s in place of 215/55 R16s would make the speedo show 5% faster than you're actually going.

When did this start happening? Has it always been like this or did it happen suddenly / gradually over time? Do you have the correct size wheels and tyres fitted?

Welsh bloke walking through a field sees a man drinking from a pool with his hand. "Paid a yfed y dwr mae'r gwartheg yn cachi yn y dwr" he calls. [Translation: Don't drink the water it's full of cowshit] The man shouts back "I'm English - speak to me in English!". Welsh bloke replies: "Use both hands, you'll get more in". B)

I think the factory fit tyres are V rated for the Galaxy and that you might jeopardise your insurance if you fit a lower-rated tyre, even if you aren't going to use it to its full potential.

Obvious question but have you checked the fuse? Number 7 I believe. Should be 20A but was increased to 25A from May '99 so it depends when yours was built.

I found this useful information on the Continental web site. They seem to confirm that directional tyres like these are quieter:

I got comparison quotes with an Insurance company and the difference was 22% between a standard (115bhp) and modified (150bhp) car. They would also add a few hundred pounds to the compulsory excess. Another factor to add to the decision making process. Out of interest, the premium difference between factory standard cars 115 to 150 bhp was only 4%! I suppose that's why so many people (wrongly) fail to inform their insurers of any modifications.

280, that's the same as the Fortuna F2000s. The Dunlop SP2020Es for comparison are 200. The problem with treadwear ratings is that the manufacturers assess these themselves - they are not assigned independently and so are not always entirely accurate... I think the value on my Falkens is 360 from memory but I'll confirm this later when I get a chance to go and look. If that's true they should last a hell of a long time unless it's their own rating and is vastly exaggerated!

Congratulations on achieving such high mileage from your tyres! However, do you think this is more to do with your driving style than the tyres themselves? Perhaps you take corners more gently and accelerate and brake more gradually than most? Is the majority of your driving on motorways rather than around town where I would expect more tyre wear due to repeated accelerating and braking and more turns? I've had Dunlops and Michelins and my own experience is that they wear out within 12~15,000 miles, having swapped front to back diagonally once in between. I currently have Falken ZE512s fitted (German company I believe but made in Japan!). After 3,000 miles I can already see signs of wear on the outside edges of the front tyres but I put this mainly down to the short trips / town driving / fast corners. The tyre pressures are 44 front and 47 rear (recommended pressures for max. load).

I found the following after googling 9-pin DIN (US site I believe) if it's any use? - http://www.stockcable.com/md9p.shtml I went for the Wharfedale version from Argos (currently half-price offer if they're still available).

There's some healthy discussion on this topic! To continue some of the points raised: Seatkid

I believe all TDIs have them but on older models, i.e. yours!, they had to be reset through diagnostics (as opposed to pressing the trip reset button on the newer models). Is it possible that someone could have disabled the service indicator completely in your ECU?

I'm sure many Scots would object to being called part of England! Perhaps "the rest of Britain / United Kingdom" would have been more appropriate :o -

X Reg Mark 3.1800 Mondeo Does It Have A Timing Belt Or Chain
insider replied to bigted's topic in Technical Section (Mondeo)
Pretty sure both 1800 petrol and diesel engines had timing belts, not chains. -
I had a 2.3 manual - pretty unresponsive unless you use the gears and screw the engine! I should imagine with an auto box the engine is dampened even more? Had 2 diesels since (only 115s) but what a difference! So much torque you get excellent response even in the very high 6th gear. Not quite a match for the 2.8 but cenrtainly wouldn't be spending as much time in petrol stations.

Air Con Compressor Replacement
insider replied to foxyfowler's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Correct, but it still contributes to Global Warming. If and when you do release the gas to the atmosphere be careful that there are no policemen around at the time - it is a criminal offence and punishable with a max. -

The oil change capacity for the 2.3l engine is 4.0 litres with a filter change or 3.75 litres without, i.e. the filter contains 250ml of oil. -

Sorry it might be too late but maybe this is of use? 346264.pdf346202.pdf215670.pdf However, I would recommend allowing the experts to deal with the refrigerant - it is not environmentally friendly and must be disposed of correctly - it cannot be allowed to leak to the atmosphere.
