  1. :) Seatkid, You'll never make it as a mechanic with fingernails like that :( Wozza:I'd like to disect one...can I have yours? Cant help with the numbers mate
  2. Petrol engine @ 100K miles :o Are you insured against heart attacks? B) DONT DO IT  ...UNLESS ITS A STEAL :(
  3. In days of old, when winters were really cold, petrol was added to help prevent diesel from becoming sludgy (as diesel contains a small amount of water that freezes) :o If the good lady has'nt put much more than a gallon or two in then I would say fill your tank to the brim to dilute it as much as possible....and dont worry about it. :P Personally...I'd admit it if it was me rather than blame the wife
  4. :D The majority of the help here is given by just a few helpfull stalwarts, for which the rest of us are equally gratefull :D As for the rest, few of us have the time (and patience) to reiterate what has, in most cases been covered many times. and we note that YOU have indeed helped yourself. the search function,I think is why we get so many repeat threads, and the now disabled file (photo) upload thingmijig is also limiting the available help. O-yea...welcome :o
  5. As far as I know , yes. :o If they are different lenths the shortest goes to the lower arm when in the park position
  6. "Must be a petrol model, diesel owners rarely have to open their flaps......... " :o Sorry guy's, I did'nt really want to join into this affair, but i just coontelpit- I had to laugh out loud :(
  7. By warming the engine coolant, you get warm air from your heater quicker. If you spend a small fortune you COULD get the other parts that are available to enable a "prewarm" :( I'm sure that if you spend more time reading previouse threads on this you will get the full picture,in a better way than I can explain. :o
  8. Think of it as an oil fired boiler....that warms the engine coolant (rather than boils),and it only works when the outside temperature falls below 5c iirc :o It's benefits are noticed much earlier on the MK2's than MK1's :(
  9. :o I passed my driving test in a commer van
  10. :o The engine oil of a diesel absorbs soot - which is black :o The honey colour would turn black almost as soon as it meets residual oil left in small pockets of the engine. The oil filter is located in front of the engine.below the top cover,to the right of the dipstick, looking rearwards. If you are looking for the usual "cannister" you wont find one, it is in a small alloy housing with a black plastic (16 sided?) cap. The air filter is in the large black box on the left side. Welcome
  11. I'm not too brilliant at sums,so forgive me if I'm wrong but they seem to be DOUBLE figures? And you could probably pick them up within 24 hours at a local ford dealership ;) Unless of course you really wanted to appear a shameless tightwad thats prepared to travel miles to save a couple of quid ;)
  12. :( That looks a brilliant forum...can you upload images to it in it's own site or do you need to complicate things and use a totally unrelated site to do that?... :(
  13. Do a search on "brake light switch" some guys have put it in far better ways than I could express
  14. :( In my opinion the galaxy (especially zetec upwards, with the extra speakers)has very good sound accoustics :(
  15. :( Rather Than risk messing up the first post (yea I'm thick ) Im adding a further to :o : The screen quality of this player is awesome and can be viewed from any angle that it can be seen from. It comes with a 12v car supply and a quick release fitting bracket that I modified to fit to a piece of plywood that was then secured to my dashboard securing Flange? behind the decorative trim... A picture would paint a thousand words but I lack The ability to post one now that this forum has been downgraded, and I have tried following members help -thanks guys :P could I email a picture to someone who knows how to do it? :( Any offers? By the time I get any answers the car has probably been sold, I gave up trying to post a photo at 6 am today. I've only just cooled down enough to try another tak
  16. I have been offerred an 03 GAL with the new style roof lining box above and between the front seats There are two slotted vents at the rear end of this (in what looks like a removeable panel) that possibly contain air sampling sensors/tweeters/parking distance horns/etc Can somebody tell me what they are and can those devices be located elsewhere inside that "compartment" :( I'm wondering if I can fit a piece of wood through the panelled area and fit a DVD player to it :( I currently have a centurion tablet DVD player placed in front of my stereo head unit that looks like it would fit to the rear end of the new "roofbox" It would be much easier to upload a photo of said DVD player at the end of this post but that is now a sore subject for me This is a link to the player(I hope!) http://www.centurionsystems.co.uk/toServle...33&env=1&view=1 The player detaches from the base/battery pack
  17. :( MM:thanks mate,I'm one of them that dont seem to be able to follow an instruction thread. ;) I can see that you've also tried to demonstrate it to me,but at the risk of sounding ungratefull,I think I may have what might be called "word blindness" or an inability to concentrate. "could also be described as thick"....before anyone else says it :o :D This sounds like I am being sarcastic but I am very serious and rarely discuss it. I first became aware of this in my schooldays, and rather than become frustrated at not being able to follow things I would daydream out the window instead :D B) Ivor:(thinks ... Reubens looks constipated)...That sounds like well deserved sarcasm, but it's way over my head :o I'll try a different tak on another post to get the answers I sought on the failed attempt
  18. :( Well, I guess I might just read things on this site in future instead of participating :o I tried the photobucket thing unsuccessfully/probably incorrectly. Sorry but I am a bit P**d off about about this forum's downgrading. When I first joined this forum (with a small donation) it was a GALAXY one,and we could upload images with our posts. On their own, they are two very minor irritations, I have warmed to the occassional non GALAXY posting, but a picture can often explain better, MUCH better than words. And to add injury the post that I attempted to upload with an image is lost! so I'll try to find another way to show the DVD player in my post. Or I might just sulk instead :D
  19. eddies, all galaxy diesels have them,to speed up the heating of the car at below 5 degrees c [iirc] However it could be that the 90 bhp engine runs colder than the 115,as I remember one of the things about my first pd engine is that it warmed up much quicker than my 90bhp alhambra
  20. Qoute"No it's NOT normal for a Galaxy diesel" John this was the norm on both my/my mates mk1s,I note yours is a 115,therefore a mk2? I could be wrong, but I think the pick up point for "hot water" was moved on the 115?
  21. B) Unfortunatly this is normal for a galaxy diesel  I'm told [but dont actually KNOW] that the heat is drawn from the cold side of the thermostat, so it doesnt get any heat untill the stat has begun to open up,allowing hot water to reach the required area to produce warm air. The official blurb however is that the engine is so "efficient" that it produces little heat
  22. "i wondered about sticking something on the front that sticks up !!!!!! any ideas welcomed." :P On the car or the wife? :) B) My wifes always noseing in too
  23. I found that a modulator only seemed viable if there is uninterrupted audio, which has been "recorded loud" so to speak. Any breaks in audio,or quiter periods are accompanied by atmospherics and an alternator whine if the volume is turned up. The Component I had fitted to make the "audio out" of my dvd player acceptable is located in behind the head unit, and "interupts" the feed from the cd autochanger. A 3 way switch is used to select:dvd player,cd changer, or head unit, and a cd has to be playing (in the autochanger but not heard) possibly to make the amplifier work? Unfortunatly I dont know what it's called :)
  24. VR6 When I had my mk1, I frequently felt they were totally unsatisfactory but tolerated them because I really liked the car :) When I got my first mk2 I noticed a MASSIVE improvement. This is because the mk1 lamps/lenses are a dual purpose "one bulb for two applications" (main + dipped beam) Neither therefore is optimised for a single path of light. Mk2 has dedicated lamps and lenses, each 100% optimised for its sole purpose :) You would have to have driven both on dark/wet roads to appreciate the difference
