The seats in the Gal where more akin to a fold up picnic chair, I don't think they will stand the test of time. The engine was quieter than my 53 plate but it seemed less torquey, wind noise was much bettert. My one pet hate with a car is when you look from the side it looks like it's going downhill eg Focus Saloon, the new Gal also has a slight bit of this look about it. Rear access, no spare kinda pushed me over the edge and the 'brillant' part ex allowance sealed it. Why Disco? absolutely incredible engine, I had to lift the bonnet to see that it was a diesel, it certainly doesn't sound like one. Nicely appointed inside (white leather), SatNav built in, fridge in the armrest and it goes down the road in a very meancing manner. Air suspension keeps the body low when the speed is high and keeps it level when cornering hard. The gearbox is silky smooth (my Range Rover from years ago was too) probably down to the body weight. In my view, the new Gal will not be a good seller, Ford have got it wron compared to the last of the old model, it's too expensive and too plasticky and as for no spare........ say no more. They've cut corners on this car and it shows. Regards - J

Just had 2 weeks with a new Gal, some features I liked BUT on balance it was a thumbs down. My dealer who I've spent over

Interesting the different views, I think the new dash is awful yet others like it, great that we have choice. The new Gal outside I could live with, the roof on the inside is different and interesting but the dash euk. So with the above in mind and the fact there's no spare that all adds up to no more Gals for me. Regards- J

I've used ebay and paypal for years, to stay out of trouble:- 1) Only deal with other users with good +ve feedback accumulated over a few months 2) Only use PayPal when purchasing, be careful if you use it when selling. 3) Don't respond to the many spoof emails that you will receive. Regards - J

I went in a Seat Alhambra taxi the other day, 425,000 on the clock and it ran sweetly (in London), talking to the owner the engine had not been touched, 3 MAF's from new, it works 3 shifts, 7 days per week. The seating and trim wasn't good but mechanically it was A1 Regards - J

Brake Failure Mystery On 2005 Tdi
johnb80 replied to BrummyGit's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It's possible on some cars for the seals to invert, usually happens when changing pads and forcing the pistons back without releasing the bleed nipple. I suppose it's possible that seals have inverted and then gone back, it sounds very dodgy to me and I for one would not feel comfortable with this situation as I'm sure you're not either. I reckon back to the dealer if you still have warranty and give them a full account in writing just in case it happens again, keep the rports in case you get a no fault found from them, no consolation when you rear end someone I know. Regards - J -
But then it wouldn't be an authentic scale replica would it

I had some shields called 'wheel clean discs' on my 24v Senator, they were brilliant and there was no noticeable change in braking performance etc. Regards - J -
Brake Failure Mystery On 2005 Tdi

I would go with master cylinder seals, if it was the servo the brake pedal would be hard, not on the floor. Regards - J -
Go to the local petrol station that has a car wash and vac, use the vac to suck out the shapoo. Regards - J

I'm with Seatkid on all of this, save your money. Regards - J

I would have thought that the ECU would start to reduce the fueling once you got to the stage of black smoke? Regards - J
-
I'm not saying they don't work, I'm simply saying I don't see how they can work. A diesel engine will simply burn the fuel you shove into it. More fuel = more power but less mpg. The ECU will not allow more fuel when the emissions start to rise so there is a top limit. Interesting that no-one quotes 0-60 before and after and steady speed mpg. Regards - J

Why would eBay get involved? He stated clearly he saw the info on eBay but purchased it privately

What I don't understand about these cheaper 'tuning boxes' is why they are supposed to work. They fool the ECU into thinking the engine is at a lower temp than it really is, the ECU in turn gives it more fuel. Taking the above as true where does the extra power and torque with less fuel consumption come from? Using steady state conditions i.e. 60 mph along a flat road, 'x' amount of power will be needed. All thats going to happen is that you lift your foot off the throttle further to acheive the same power BUT the amount of fuel going into the engine would be the same so no power, torque or fuel consumption gains there. Now we go to full throttle, as soon as the turbo hits maximum boost the fuel is going to be trimmed by the ECU to keep emissions down so I don't see any gains there either. It's my beleif that people think they have more power because their foot isn't as far down on the pedal as it was before. I'm not sure if anyone has done real tests eg 0-60 30-50 etc. Regards - J

I bet you can, especially 7 seats less

Well I'm one customer that has been put off and I will now be 100% Mercedes very soon, already bought a Sprinter and a Smart instead of a Transit and a Fiesta, just the Gal to go now which will probably be an E class Estate. Regards - J

Would you not agree that IF the timing has slipped the valve opening will be retarded? That being the case, the inlet valves opening later would give greater clearance. The exhaust on the other hand would not :o Regards - J

Hesitation / Jolting / Jerking At Low Rpm's?
johnb80 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just one other quick thought, try clamping off the vac hoses in turn, especially the one to the brake servo (don't drive it like this though) and see if there's any change in the engine note. All what you have said is classic weak mixture. Make sure that on the engine side of the MAF no air can get in via bad connections / split hoses. Regards - J -
I have actually had a very similar problem on a 24v Cosworth V6. The idle was dreadful, what appeared like a misfire wasn't, compression was down on one side and that bank was in fact running lean. The inlet cam had jumped 2 teeth. New chains, guides, tensioners and sprockets resulted in a complete restoration of performance and smoothnes. So in answer to your question, YES jumped timing can cause loss of compression (I found it hard to beleive too) and very rough running. Regards - J
