I accept that the software is readily available which is a shame, the problem with this one is the user requesting the code was unknown to us etc etc and 'we' apparently fall over ourselves in the fight to give hime the code. just seems mad to me that we're not helping our own security. Regards - JB

Nice one guys, well done, said it all before so I'll not say it again in deatil but WILL YOU PLEASE STOP GIVING CODES OUT TO PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW. Justice, how do you know he's not nicked the radio? the whole point of the codes is to stop theft. Regards - JB

Probably not, you guys burn so much fuel with such inefficiency yours warm up in milliseconds compared to the oil burners. I've done 2- miles plus and still not reached running temp when the ambient temp has been around 13 deg or so. Regards - JB

He probably had pulled over and stopped, that was the wheel spin due to lack of grip on summer tyres

This Is Progress?

No you can't clean the MAF like on the Scorpio, I used to have a 2litre Ghia Estate and cleaned the MAF about 3 times in it's life, each time gavce a dramatic improvement. The MAf on the Gal is a film type MAF rather than the hot wire aparently. Regards - John -
And still quids in with the money saved on the obscene amounts of fuel the V6 consumes  Regards - JB

When you switch on the aircon an electro-magnetic clutch engages. This uses engine power to turn the compressor. If the compressor is seized and it won't turn it stops the engine / breaks the drive belt. You won't do any harm driving if the a/c is switched off. Regards - JB

Move it across to manual mode, you can then make it change when you want or change it for a diesel it doesn't rev anywhere near that high! Regards - John

If you have a faulty door light switch it can do this. If you unlock your car but don't open a door it will lock itself within 30 seconds or so. If you have a duff door light switch it won't know you've opened the door! Regards - John

Replace the switch with a fuse for winter time, the aux heater would then run every time you start the engine from cold. Regards - JB

My mates galaxy did this and it turned out to be the fanbelt! The logic behind it was that cold start the alternator has more resistance to turning because it has to charge the battery. The fan belt is damp and slips quite easily. The rest of the day is fine because the battery has been charged and due to the heat in the engine bay all the pulleys etc are dry. I beleive that the message comes up because the ECU knows the engine is running but can't see an ouput from the alternator. Regards - John

Battery Not Holding It's Charge

Just get an electrician to put a clip on ammeter on the main battery lead. Let it stand with headlights on, heater blower etc for 5 minutes or so, start the engine. You should then see a good healthy charge going into the battery, if you only see a trickle you've found your problem. Shouldn't be expensive to do, they only clip the ammeter around the lead, if you live near Lincoln I can do it for you. Regards - John -

Cobblers! If you measure the voltage and it's 0v it's a pretty good (unlikely I know) indication that it's dead  Please don't stop winding people up, you have a great skill that I admire  Regards - JB -
Battery Not Holding It's Charge
johnb80 replied to greg_68's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It would seem to me it HAS to be a faulty battery. The fact that it runs for 2 weeks can rule out vehicle discharge, anything that didn't flatten it overrnight would easily get put back in a few minutes with the engine running. It would seem to me the battery is incapable of accepting charge from the alternator OR the alternator *may* be low on output. If you switch on the headlights and then start the engine, are the lights considerably brighter with the engine running (assuming normal headlights not H.I.D.'s). Regards - John -
That's a bit strong delboyt, you *did* claim 40+ mpg and deisel beating consumption around town. I note now you have ammended your post, do you accept you had miscalculated? if so then I think really it's you that owes a few apologies. Furthermore you also stated So perhaps you should take your own advise and not say anything to seatkid. How is the current mpg anyway just out of interest? Regards - JB

Insurance isn't usually a problem provided you have it professionally installed and have a certificate from the installer. Regards - JB

Brake Light Switch And Warranty
johnb80 replied to grifjl's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The legal standpoint is that you have 'x' years warranty, parts are replaced etc under warranty and when your 'x' years is up, you pay. The warranty is not extended even though new parts are fitted. Regards - John -
When it's cold outside, mine is giving warm (not hot) air with 3/4 of a mile. After 3 miles or so it's hot. Regards - John
