  1. I know that VW dont make that many parts but have them made. Example my car is on its 3rd rerverse light switch, it says VW in the plastic bit and is also fitted to some audis (I found all this while searching for one quickly.... the Ford dealer overnight but back order for VW and Audi). I have NEVER ever had to buy a reverse light switch for any of the other 14 Ford cars i and my family have owned. As for relubing wiper linkage every few years, i dont care who made it, VW asked for it to be made like it.
  2. What should it be? ......thinking 4 btdc is fine?
  3. This statement still makes no sense since a Ford Galaxy wiper linkage, a Seat Alhambra wiper linkage and a VW Sharan wiper linkage are all exactly the same part made from the same cheese in the same factory by the same morons. What's your point please? ... The point is, irrespective of the badge on the grille, if the component, (EG reverse light switch) has a WV/ Audi stamp or part number on it, it is going to break. Not all the parts on it are VW, some are actually Ford, and my experience is that the Ford bits are OK.
  4. How did all those records get logged? all different sales/owners?, + MOTs
  5. No idea really as not seen your seat type, but are they linked for strength? (its a TORX set you need to remove) If not i will swap cars!
  6. Considering the Galaxy, Alhambra and Sharan are all the same car with only trim differences I find that statement rather puzzling. I mean the individual parts on the car not the name on the grille.
  7. Have look round the car, if it say VW or Audi logo on it, it is broken or about to break, if it says Ford it should be ok for a while. They are great while working but throw up amazing faults, EG how many other cars do you know that need wiper linkage relubeing every 4 years or it burns the motor out?
  8. Are they 16" wheels?, the only difference on the calipers is the LHS has wear sensors (if fitted)
  9. Yes, but did it get a new fuel filter?
  10. A New fuel filter would be a good idea to eliminate the easy.
  11. Sounds like the master cylinder is leaking past a little, and probably was before you did the pads, while running you have the servo helping so feels better. If the leak past is very little, EG over 1 min to get the peddle to the floor then its OK, but monitor it for more wear.
  12. Update, its done 3,000 miles without the EGR connected, (well, control pipe blocked and actuator capped) and holding on to a lump of wood all seems good! It seems to give out less smoke on accleration, and feels to have more power, the main benefit is lower fuel use, it will now get the caravan to blackpool and back without a refuel, it warned low fuel 20 miles before home before, and for the first time ever this week (after a long motorway run) it got to 500 miles before the fuel warning came on.
  13. We tow a 25' (total length) lunar which is about 1350kg fully loaded, my current 130 hp tdi is happy with it, but suspect i would need the 2.0l to be at laest at good. How have you got round the spare problem? is it a space saver? and is it in the car or caravan?
  14. As above, its not a simple thing either, but looks like it will come apart.
  15. I had this recently, take off the arms (put masking tape on screen and mark where they park first!), remove engine cover thing and the secondary bulkhead. Undo 3/4 bolts and it comes off, you then fiddle all the wiring stuff of it. As its still moving you should be able to get it apart and clean up the 2 spindles and grease them and refit it all. (a circlip keeps the spindles in, dont loose it when you push it off!)
  16. Currently have a 54 reg MK2 and seem to have all the common problems, the latest is the seizing up wiper spindles, ( Only VW could fit a wiper system that needs regular rebuilding/lubrication every 3 years when most cars wipers go to there grave without a problem). The question is are there any regular faults with the MK3's yet, and are any of the 1.8 diesels up to the 130hp VW 1.9TDI, or would i need a 2.0TDCI? (Need the power for towing)
  17. What engine/year?
  18. It does have a sensor, disconnect a multiplug... only on one side though. Like these; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-GALAXY-SHARAN-A...A1%7C240%3A1318
  19. Having recently done a cambelt i think its been done wrong, it will run but may be slightly out of timing, the camshaft should be slackened and rotated back until the belt is fitted and the new tensioner set, then tighten. Once fitted you then rotate the crank 2 revolutions, lock the crank again and check the drill/pin still goes in.
  20. Leave the bleed nipple alone, if its getting too full open a different one! I managed to turn the calipers in with some long nose pliers!
  21. They have to be galaxy, the others are a different shape! Having said that how are LHD galaxy different from RHD Galaxy, the "glass" is clear and smooth, unlike old proper headlights where the glass did the work, maybe you can alter them on the adjusters?
  22. No experience of them, but has it already been triggered? years ago i went to a breaker for a mondeo seat buckle with the pretensioner in it, the young lad got the seat out and dropped it on the floor... that triggered it and was then useless!
  23. The new tyres on the rear is because in hard cornering in the wet its the rear that will let go first, especially on front wheel drive. Hgvs, are max 56mph so cannot aquaplane so easy at lower speeds? Blowouts on HGV are more to do with the abuse they get off the road when scrubbing wheels sideways on rough ground.
  24. """Richard, Pirelli do have "complementery brands" as do most (if not all) the bigger manufacturers. These unfortunately I have no experience of. "" Yes i know they all do it to have a foot in every market and the same applies to batteries (reliably told they came down the production line and cheap/premium stickers are applied according to order!) Obviously tyres are different as the mould has to be changed, but my suspicion is its easier to make them out of the same stuff on the same day in a different mould and make less money, (but save on advertising!), making a poorer quality would be more hassle.
  25. Dont know! But will it make a difference? wont the pressure to the cylinder be the same wether its being added to by exhaust gas or not? ie it will blow a little more fresh air to make up for the exhaust gas that isnt being let into inlet manifold.
